S tier contains our first choices for a broadly useful loadout. A tier offers strong alternatives and specialists. B tier rewards a particular matchup, setup, or preference. You Loong's Deluge, for example, becomes much more attractive when you build around Lightning or Frost.
S Tier Phantom Edges
Inanis' Radiant Fan

The fan is our first recommendation for difficult fights where survival matters more than another attack. Its sanctuary gradually restores HP and Sha-Chi while you remain inside. The base field lasts eight seconds and costs two Remnant Sparks, so place it when you can stay within its area.
Upgrades strengthen the sanctuary through longer duration, a larger area, and bonuses to Attack and Damage Reduction. Soul Tempering adds Nirvana, which can revive Soul with 30 percent HP after fatal damage inside the field. That revival resets after touching a Bell or respawning. It is valuable insurance, but positioning remains essential: an enemy that forces you out also takes you away from the fan's benefits.
Iron Gauntlets

Iron Gauntlets combine shield-breaking attacks with Fist Focus, which temporarily increases damage dealt by your main weapon. That makes them a strong bridge into a primary-weapon punish window. Land the punches when it is safe, then take advantage of the buff with your chosen blade.
They suit players who want their Edge to support an aggressive melee rhythm. The reward comes from Stone Hand Iron Fever in Crimson Forest. Invest in them early if you enjoy their attack timing, because their usefulness extends beyond the damage of the punches themselves.
Hunter's Chain Sickle

Hunter's Chain Sickle gives a melee setup useful reach. Shadow Bound lets a combo pull an eligible enemy toward Soul; against a large or heavily armored target, Soul travels toward the enemy instead. That distinction makes the tool useful for bringing weaker opponents into range and pursuing targets that resist being moved.
Soul Tempering adds Gleaming Hook, improving chain damage and giving blade hits Bleed buildup and greater Sha-Chi depletion. The Bleed component does not affect Puppets, Golden Bodies, or Phantom Bodies. Its traversal grapple also works without equipping it, so its combat placement rests on reach and pursuit rather than exploration alone.
Thunder Spear

Thunder Spear is our preferred elemental attack option for a general offensive setup. Its strikes apply Paralysis, and upgrades improve Lightning damage and buildup. Soul Tempering adds Cascading Thunder, allowing a hit to send lightning to as many as two nearby enemies.
That combination gives it a clear role against groups as well as susceptible single targets. You obtain it by defeating Chang Hong in Pangzhen. Pair it with a Wet-applying Edge when you want to commit both slots to an elemental strategy, or keep a defensive tool beside it for a more forgiving setup.
Bashpole

Bashpole is a dependable choice when shields and clustered enemies keep interrupting your offense. Its wide attacks and slams give it a practical job in crowded encounters. Forceful Interrupt improves disruption as the weapon develops, and its highest version also improves Guard Break.
Later upgrades add expanding shockwaves and a follow-up slam without extra Remnant Spark. Those benefits are why we place it above a basic heavy-hit recommendation. Its ability to break sealed wooden ground works while unequipped, allowing you to swap it out whenever the next fight calls for another tool.
Kuye Temple Prayer Beads

The beads summon three Bronze Men, adding allied attacks while Soul continues fighting. Golden Body gives the summons a defensive technique, and later upgrades add formation behavior and punishment for enemies striking them during that state. Soul Tempering changes the trio into a Fist Gold Man, Staff Gold Man, and Blade Gold Man.
This is an S-tier recommendation when summoning is available. Check for the glowing availability indicator associated with Sha-Chi-dense areas before planning a fight around it. A summon that cannot be activated in the current encounter cannot solve that encounter, however strong its upgrades are.

A Tier Phantom Edges
Fire Meteor

Fire Meteor is an excellent alternative to Thunder Spear. Phosphor Flame damages burning enemies while lowering their Attack, giving the weapon an offensive and defensive purpose. Its Tempering art improves damage and Sha-Chi depletion against enemies already burning with that flame. Choose it when you can keep that effect relevant.
Flying Dagger

Flying Dagger applies Poison from range. It earns a slot when you want to contribute status pressure without spending every opening beside the enemy. It is especially appealing when your primary weapons already handle close combat well.
Flaming Mane

Flaming Mane is a useful fire specialist for groups. The flame stream gives it a different rhythm from a heavy melee Edge, while its Tempering upgrade adds Chaotic Flame. Manage the sustained resource drain instead of holding the attack through an unsafe opening.
Illusory Pipa

Illusory Pipa offers more combat value than a simple barrier key. Its Sonic Blades are unblockable; red blades also ignore Damage Reduction. Sonic Mindseal activates when a red blade hits a Guard-Broken enemy, making that enemy attack its allies. It does not affect powerful enemies. We place it in A tier for its ranged pressure and crowd utility.
Ink Cut

Ink Cut rewards deliberate combo timing. Ending after the second attack leaves a Radiant Wheel that keeps dealing damage before detonating. Its upgrades add manual detonation and a stronger timed finish, while Tempering enables a second wheel. It is a strong option when a target stays within the wheel's reach long enough to benefit from that setup.
Wolfjaw

Wolfjaw combines heavy attacks with lifesteal. It is attractive when you want to recover HP while attacking an appropriate target. Its base life drain does not work on Puppets, Golden Bodies, or Phantom Bodies, so check the enemy before relying on it for sustain.
Bastion

Bastion gives defensive players a shield and counterattack option. Holding the shield drains Sha-Chi, and absorbing attacks costs more. Use it with a resource plan; prolonged guarding can leave you without the protection you expected.
Dread Axe

Dread Axe remains a strong early heavy option against shields. It is a straightforward complement to lighter blades, though its committed attacks need a suitable opening. Keep it in the rotation when you want an accessible answer to defensive enemies.
Flying Guillotine

Flying Guillotine provides ranged execution against eligible enemies. Its level-five upgrade adds Bleed, making it another possible partner for a Bleed-focused primary weapon. The usual immunity restrictions still apply to that status effect.
Abyssal Bell

Abyssal Bell is the Soul Tempered form of Puppeteer's Bell. Alongside the sword-and-shield and spear-and-shield puppets, it adds an elite puppet chosen from three types. That extra ally raises our recommendation to A tier. As with the other combat summons, activation depends on the encounter's summoning condition, and repeated summons replace the existing group.
B Tier Phantom Edges
These options remain useful, but we would choose them after identifying a specific need rather than treating them as automatic upgrade priorities.
Feather Bow

When to choose it: Charged ranged shots and a familiar aiming rhythm. Its precision-based Tempering art rewards a timed release.
One-Eyed Bow

When to choose it: Ranged pressure with Death Ray options. Its Tempering upgrade adds charged multi-arrow shots.
Goldblaze

When to choose it: A firearm alternative for players who prefer its firing sequence and upgraded dodge counter.
Loong Trident

When to choose it: Long-range throws, Wet application, and forcing hidden enemies out of water or snow.
You Loong's Deluge

When to choose it: A dedicated Wet setup for Lightning or Frost damage, or a response to fire-wielding enemies.
Swordsman's Summon

When to choose it: Allied swordsmen in encounters that permit summoning. Keep its availability condition in mind.
Tiger Cannon

When to choose it: Charged explosive shots, environmental destruction, and finishing ordinary Frozen enemies. The shatter effect excludes elites.
Heartrend Pipa

When to choose it: Unblockable Sonic Blades before the Illusory Pipa transformation. It still offers ranged HP and Sha-Chi pressure.
Puppeteer's Bell

When to choose it: Two armed puppets in summon-enabled encounters. Its Abyssal Bell transformation is the stronger long-term version.
War Wagon

When to choose it: Charging through enemy lines and maneuvering across open ground. Its sustained resource use and movement demands need planning.
War Wagon deserves a trial before you dismiss it. Its upgrades reduce Remnant Spark consumption, add a ground slam, and reward a longer approach through Free Rein. We keep it in B tier as a general recommendation because its charge-based playstyle asks for a more specific encounter and player preference. Try its movement and slam before deciding whether it suits your rotation.

The general melee pair adds pursuit and a main-weapon damage buff. For a difficult boss, the fan and Bashpole give you recovery alongside a way to pressure defensive openings. The Lightning pair is a more specialized choice: apply Wet, then exploit the increased susceptibility to Lightning.
With a Frost primary such as Whiteshadow, You Loong's Deluge can also justify a place above its general tier. Equipment combinations should answer the encounter in front of you. A B-tier specialist that supports your build can be more useful than a second S-tier tool doing a job you already cover.
Which Phantom Edges to Upgrade First
For aggressive melee, start with Iron Gauntlets or Hunter's Chain Sickle. Choose Bashpole when shields and interruption are the main obstacles. Thunder Spear is the first elemental investment we recommend, while Inanis' Radiant Fan deserves priority when recovery becomes the limiting factor in longer fights.
Keep investment focused on the pair you actually use. Some of the strongest recommendations depend on weapon-level arts or Soul Tempering, so a newly acquired Edge will not immediately reproduce an upgraded version's full moveset. Learn the base attacks, check the next unlock, and decide whether that improvement supports your main weapons.
FAQ
What is the best Phantom Edge
Inanis' Radiant Fan is our strongest survival recommendation. Iron Gauntlets and Hunter's Chain Sickle are excellent general melee choices, and Thunder Spear is our preferred elemental attack option.
How many Phantom Edges are ranked here
The table contains 26 named forms: 24 base Phantom Edges, plus Illusory Pipa and Abyssal Bell. Those last two are transformed versions of Heartrend Pipa and Puppeteer's Bell, rather than two additional independent boss drops.
Do exploration tools need to stay equipped
Several do not. Once acquired, tools such as the Chain Sickle and Bashpole retain their corresponding exploration functions while unequipped. Pick your two combat slots for their fighting value.
Build Around Your Next Fight
Start with Iron Gauntlets and Hunter's Chain Sickle for an aggressive melee setup, then bring in the fan, a summon, or an elemental tool when the encounter calls for it. The best pair gives you a useful answer when your main weapons need help.
