Phantom Blade Zero is a single-player action RPG built in Unreal Engine 5, mixing traditional wuxia, fantasy, folk horror, machinery, and the visual language of classic Hong Kong martial-arts cinema into a style S-GAME calls “Kungfupunk.”

You play as Soul, a warrior framed for the death of his master and left with only 66 days to live. Combat is considerably faster than the deliberate rhythm associated with many Soulslikes, drawing inspiration from hack-and-slash action while still emphasizing timing, weapons, and enemy encounters. The game features more than 30 weapons and over 20 special “Phantom Edges.”

And despite looking like a brand-new IP to many Western players, its roots go back much further.

S-founder Soulframe Liang originally created Rainblood: Town of Death in RPG Maker in 2010. Rainblood later evolved into the Phantom Blade franchise, which built an audience primarily in China. Liang describes Phantom Blade Zero as a spiritual rebirth of the original Rainblood, now rebuilt on a much larger scale with Unreal Engine 5.
