A new weapon in Phantom Blade Zero can change much more than your attack animations. Bleed turns repeated hits into extra damage, a well-timed counter can strip an enemy's Sha-Chi, and freezing a dangerous opponent can give you the opening you have been waiting for. The challenge is deciding which of those tools deserves your upgrade materials.

Here is our Phantom Blade Zero weapon tier list, followed by the mechanics that make the strongest options worth using.

Phantom Blade Zero Weapon Tier List

This tier list covers all 30 primary weapon forms: 25 base weapons and five named Soul Tempering transformations. It ranks campaign combat performance, considering their upgrade effects, damage, guard pressure, resource demands, and defensive utility. Phantom Edges occupy separate equipment slots and are outside this ranking. Weapons within each tier are not listed in a strict order.

S-tier weapons offer exceptional damage or control. A-tier weapons are strong alternatives, with several particularly valuable for defensive builds. B-tier weapons include reliable starter choices and specialists with more demanding setup. C tier is our lowest general recommendation because of the tradeoffs involved.

S Tier Weapons

Baishan Stormswords

Baishan Stormswords weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Best for: elemental offense and powerful damage windows.

Baishan Stormswords becomes especially dangerous when both Wind Sword and Thunder Sword are active. Together, they trigger Baishan's Blessing, increasing Attack for 20 seconds before duration-extending upgrades. During that state, you can unleash Lightning Storm, which ends both swords early.

That gives you a useful decision: keep attacking through the empowered window or cash it in with Lightning Storm. Ideally, use as much of the buff as the opening allows before finishing with the storm. Triggering the state just as a boss becomes unreachable wastes a large part of its value.

Fiend Saws

Fiend Saws weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Best for: burst damage against guard-broken enemies.

Fiend Saws combines rapid attacks with Fiend-Aura Erosion. Each hit contributes to buildup on the enemy; filling the gauge causes an eruption that damages their HP.

Its Power Surge, Fiend Form, makes attacks unblockable for 10 seconds and increases their effectiveness against enemies with broken guards. Break the enemy's guard before activating it whenever possible, then use the opening to maintain your attack sequence. The speed and extra damage make these blades an excellent reward for aggressive play.

Jagged Steel

Jagged Steel weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Best for: early progression and sustained Bleed damage.

Jagged Steel is one of the easiest strong weapons to recommend early. Landing attacks builds the enemy's Bleed Gauge, and filling it triggers Blood Loss. Its straightforward moveset lets you focus on finding safe hits while the status effect adds damage.

The limitation is enemy type. Its base Bleed effect does not work on Puppets, Golden Bodies, or Phantom Bodies. Keep a complementary weapon ready for those encounters, especially before obtaining equipment that changes those restrictions. Against suitable enemies, Jagged Steel remains worth using well beyond the opening region.

White Serpent & Crimson Viper

White Serpent & Crimson Viper weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Best for: versatile dual-blade pressure.

This pair offers fast melee strings, a spinning blade technique, and executions from a distance. Crimson Viper Orbit sends the shorter blade around Soul, letting it contribute pressure alongside your normal attacks.

The cost is continuous Sha-Chi consumption. Leaving Orbit running without watching your resources can make the next defensive exchange much harder. Recall the blade when you need to conserve Sha-Chi, and take advantage of Ranged Execution when a distant enemy is low on HP. That combination gives the pair excellent flexibility.

Freezing Chaos

Freezing Chaos weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Best for: changing your approach within a fight.

Threefold Shift switches Freezing Chaos between Steel, Chaos, and Frost forms. Steel has the highest Attack and Guard Break of the three. Chaos inflicts Chaotic Flame, which can continuously deplete HP and Sha-Chi, while Frost applies Chill and can eventually freeze enemies.

The strength is having several useful effects inside one weapon. Use Steel for direct pressure, Frost when control would help, and Chaos to add ongoing damage. Switching consumes Sha-Chi, so give each transition a purpose instead of cycling through forms without a plan.

Whiteshadow

Whiteshadow weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Best for: freezing enemies and creating openings.

Whiteshadow's attacks inflict Chill and build the enemy's Frozen Gauge. Once that gauge fills, the enemy becomes Frozen. This makes the weapon particularly attractive when a fight gives you very little time to breathe.

Its control also supports follow-up attacks from another weapon. Blazing Edge is an especially interesting partner because Sunderflame deals additional damage to Frozen enemies. Whiteshadow arrives too late to be an early-game solution, but it is a strong investment for the encounters and subsequent runs where you can use it.

A Tier Weapons

A-tier weapons can be the right choice even when an S-tier option is available. Their value often comes from solving a particular problem: surviving a long boss fight, punishing predictable attacks, or applying damage from farther away.

Outlaw Warblade

Outlaw Warblade weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Restores HP through standard attacks.

What to consider: Sha-Chi combos convert HP into Recoverable HP; lifesteal has enemy-type restrictions.

Soft Snake Sword

Soft Snake Sword weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Timed defensive techniques drain an attacker's Sha-Chi.

What to consider: Rewards learning when enemy attacks will land.

Parting Hooks

Parting Hooks weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Guard Stance blocks and counters melee pressure.

What to consider: Cannot counter Black-Flash Attacks.

Scarlet Wraithblade

Scarlet Wraithblade weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Red Spider Lilies apply area pressure and drain HP and Sha-Chi.

What to consider: Slow finishers require careful commitment.

Blazing Edge

Blazing Edge weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Fire attacks, Burning Energy, and strong punishment against Frozen targets.

What to consider: Its charged attacks need a suitable opening.

Infernal Rouge

Infernal Rouge weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Bloodline mechanics add survival and offensive potential.

What to consider: Bloodline Rebirth's HP drain requires attention.

Juggernaut

Juggernaut weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Parries build Red Edge toward powerful heavy attacks.

What to consider: Slow attacks make timing important.

Sundering Dual Axes

Sundering Dual Axes weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Baleful Aura rewards sustained offense.

What to consider: Needs buildup before its enhanced window.

Armybreaker

Armybreaker weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Guard pressure, sweeping strikes, and rushing attacks.

What to consider: Best suited to players who want direct, forceful offense.

Seamless Death

Seamless Death weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Ring projectiles provide ranged pressure.

What to consider: Repeated throws still demand Sha-Chi management.

Wild Oriole Sword

Wild Oriole Sword weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Oriole Song adds blade waves to Sha-Chi attacks.

What to consider: Maintaining the effect matters to its ranged pressure.

Shadowless Edge

Shadowless Edge weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Shadow Form summons a Phantom Double to add offensive pressure.

What to consider: Manage the summon window and the downtime between summons.

Tianmiao · Wild Oriole

Tianmiao · Wild Oriole weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Adds paired sword attacks and stronger blade waves during Oriole Song.

What to consider: Retains the need to manage Oriole Song.

The Lady's Fan

The Lady's Fan weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Elemental sigils create different attack combinations.

What to consider: Late acquisition limits its use during an initial playthrough.

Aureate

Aureate weapon in Phantom Blade Zero

Main strength: Golden sword summons add delayed offensive pressure.

What to consider: Its distinctive effects reward connecting the required attacks.

Outlaw Warblade is our standout survival recommendation. Its standard attacks restore more HP while Soul has Recoverable HP, giving you a way to recover from the health conversion used by its Sha-Chi combos. However, its base lifesteal does not affect Puppets, Golden Bodies, or Phantom Bodies. Check the target before relying on healing to carry a fight.

Blazing Edge deserves particular attention if you enjoy two-handed weapons. Flame Wave ignites enemies, while Sha-Chi attacks build Burning Energy. Filling that energy wreathes the blade in flame for 15 seconds, adding Burn damage to its attacks. Sunderflame can be charged and deals substantial damage to Frozen enemies, giving it a clear reason to be paired with a freezing weapon.

For defensive play, Soft Snake Sword and Parting Hooks are both excellent candidates. Choose the former if you enjoy precise timing; try the latter if you prefer holding a stance and turning an opponent's melee pressure against them.

B and C Tier Weapons

Sanguine, Sanguine Twin, and Sanguine Reach are dependable weapons for learning spacing and combo timing. Their uncomplicated attacks make them comfortable early choices, although more specialized weapons offer stronger reasons to build around them later. Remember that Sanguine and Sanguine Reach also lead to separately ranked transformed weapons.

The Fanatic's Broken Blade supports an unusual ranged playstyle through drinking. The setup and upkeep make it less convenient as a general recommendation. Players who enjoy that rhythm should still explore its restored form, The Fanatic's Drunken Sword. The restored blade removes the distance-based damage falloff, but managing the drinking states remains central to its playstyle.

Crescent Blade is appealing for clearing weaker enemies through Qinglong Form and Qinglong Cleave. That instant-kill utility is less decisive against bosses. Bonesaw rewards parries with increased Sha-Chi pressure on the next attack, but makes ordinary blocking more expensive. Wooden Sanguine has a straightforward practice-blade role and is a lower priority for a general damage build.

Tianxuan Bronze Sword ranks lowest because its Natural Order effect reduces Sha-Chi consumption when blocking but disables parrying. That can suit a deliberate blocking playstyle, but giving up parries is a substantial tradeoff for general boss combat.

Shadowless Edge deserves a separate look from Sanguine Twin. Its Shadow Form summons a Phantom Double that attacks alongside Soul, making the transformed weapon more distinctive than the original's straightforward fast combos.

Tianmiao · Wild Oriole also expands its original weapon's kit. Mu Tianmiao's sword joins the Wild Oriole Blade during Sha-Chi combos, with stronger blade waves while Oriole Song is active. It remains an appealing choice for players who enjoy combining close combat with ranged pressure.

Best Weapon Combinations

Jagged Steel and Scarlet Wraithblade

This is our suggested early pairing for two different offensive jobs. Scarlet Wraithblade offers guard pressure and area control through its heavy attacks and Spider Lilies, while Jagged Steel supplies Bleed damage against suitable enemies.

Use the Wraithblade when you need to pressure guards or control space, then bring out Jagged Steel when you have an opportunity to attack repeatedly. You also retain an alternative when the enemy cannot naturally Bleed.

Fiend Saws and Outlaw Warblade

This pairing combines aggressive damage with recovery. Fiend Saws handles the openings where you can commit to a sustained attack sequence, particularly after a guard break. Outlaw Warblade gives you a healing option during safer exchanges.

Watch the Warblade's HP conversion and enemy-type restrictions. Its healing is most useful when you can land controlled hits, so avoid treating it as permission to trade damage recklessly.

Whiteshadow and Blazing Edge

This pairing has a direct interaction worth building around: Whiteshadow freezes enemies, and Blazing Edge's Sunderflame deals additional damage to Frozen enemies.

Build the Frozen Gauge with Whiteshadow, then look for an opportunity to switch and charge Sunderflame. You still need enough time to execute the follow-up, but the two weapons give you a clear control-and-punish sequence.

Which Weapon Should You Upgrade First

Jagged Steel is our default early upgrade recommendation. It is available in the first region, has a straightforward offensive role, and remains valuable against enemies vulnerable to Bleed. Scarlet Wraithblade is a strong alternative if you prefer heavy attacks and want more guard pressure.

As your arsenal grows, invest according to the problem you are trying to solve. Fiend Saws is an excellent offensive upgrade, Baishan Stormswords rewards managing empowered windows, Outlaw Warblade helps sustain longer fights, and Whiteshadow gives you more control.

Check the effects unlocked by your next upgrade alongside the damage increase. A perk that improves your main attack sequence can be more valuable than spreading materials across several weapons you rarely equip. Build a reliable pair first, then experiment as more resources become available.

Final Thoughts

For an early playthrough, start with Jagged Steel and add a weapon that helps pressure guards. Fiend Saws and Baishan Stormswords are excellent offensive goals as you progress. If a difficult encounter keeps ending before you can finish it, Outlaw Warblade's recovery or Whiteshadow's control may offer a more useful improvement.
