AFK Journey Rolan Build Guide: Best Teams, EX Weapon, Charms & PvP Setup

Rolan officially joined AFK Journey on August 6, 2026, arriving as an S-Level Celestial Support with one of the most overloaded support kits in the game. Healing? Yep. Cleansing? Naturally. Teamwide ATK buffs, damage reduction, crowd control and copied Ultimates? The fox king apparently decided “support” should mean doing almost everything at once.

This Rolan build guide covers his core mechanics, investment breakpoints, Exclusive Equipment, Magic Charms, teams, Artifacts, positioning and early performance across PvE and PvP.

Rolan’s ascension curve is relatively smooth. One copy already brings cleansing, healing, HP redistribution and team buffs, while Mythic+, Supreme+ and EX upgrades each add a meaningful layer rather than fixing an unusable base kit.

 

How Rolan’s Morale System Works

Rolan begins battle with 20% Morale. The team gains another 10% whenever an ally casts an Ultimate or defeats a non-summoned enemy, but loses 10% when an allied non-summoned hero falls. If Rolan dies, all Morale is permanently removed, so protecting him is not optional—it is the entire team’s job description.

For every 20% Morale, all allies gain ATK based partly on Rolan’s initial ATK. His active blessing then selects the two allies that have dealt the most cumulative damage, makes them unaffected for ten seconds and increases their ATK. At 60% Morale, both also gain 50 Haste.

That two-target design explains why Rolan is so comfortable in multi-core teams. He does not demand one hypercarry and ignore everyone else. He can support a main DPS and a secondary carry at the same time, which is especially valuable in Lightbearer formations.

His Ultimate, Oath in the Stone, cleanses dispellable debuffs, equalizes the HP percentages of all non-summoned allies, increases their maximum HP by 150%, restores a huge amount of HP and grants 15% Morale. The temporary maximum-HP increase decays over 12 seconds.

This is the “oversized shield” effect highlighted in the supplied PvE notes. It is not technically a normal shield, but in high-deficit stages it behaves like one: the team suddenly receives a much larger effective health pool, gets pulled away from death and gains time to launch its first Ultimate chain.

His second skill, Clemency’s Edge, heals the largest allied cluster and reduces its damage taken for ten seconds. Once the team has at least 60% Morale, Rolan also strikes the largest enemy cluster and stuns it for three seconds.

So one support slot covers cleansing, emergency recovery, damage reduction, carry buffs, Haste and crowd control. That is exactly why his early PvP evaluation describes him as one hero doing several people’s jobs.

 

Best Ascension and Investment for Rolan

Mythic+: The Bossing Breakpoint

Mythic+ unlocks Radiant Reign, Rolan’s defining mechanic. Once Morale reaches 100%, he creates a Radiant Ward. Whenever an ally casts an Ultimate, a radiant clone appears and casts that Ultimate again. The clone initially inherits 80% of the original hero’s basic stats.

This is the minimum serious investment for boss content because it unlocks the reason to build Rolan over a conventional buffer. His basic kit remains good below Mythic+, but the second Ultimate is what changes team ceilings.

Rolan is the current first-priority Celestial/Hypogean investment for PvE, ahead of Elijah & Lailah and Contess.

Supreme+: The Recommended General Build

At Supreme+, Rolan grants additional opening Morale for every hero belonging to the most represented faction. Each matching hero normally provides 6%, while Lightbearers and Celestials provide 10%.

Rolan and heroes from that dominant faction also gain 20 Penetration and take 50% less damage for the first eight seconds.

This is the real foundation of his PvP strength. In a mostly mono-faction formation, the effect protects nearly the entire team through the most dangerous opening window. Surviving those eight seconds gives the team time to cast Ultimates, raise Morale to 60% and start Rolan’s full engine.

That is why Mythic+ is enough to unlock his bossing identity, but Supreme+ is the better stopping point for new players planning to use him everywhere.

 

Paragon and Refine Investment

PvP-focused accounts should adjust Rolan’s investment to their arena bracket rather than copying one universal stopping point.

Paragon 2 is a reasonable competitive baseline, while Paragon 4 is aimed at players fighting similarly invested opponents. For his Exclusive Equipment refinements, Refine 2 offers the stronger value breakpoint: in Rivalry Mode, the first ally to fall below 40% HP receives healing and a shield. Refine 4 adds Healing and Haste and is more of a premium PvP upgrade.

 

Rolan Exclusive Equipment Priority

Rolan should not casually be labelled an “EX +10 and stop” hero.

At EX +5, the radiant clone inherits 90% of the original hero’s basic stats. At EX +10, it inherits 100%, completing the core double-casting mechanic. This is the minimum recommended Exclusive Equipment target.

At EX +15, allies inside the Radiant Ward recover HP every second, while enemies inside it continuously lose HP. This gives Rolan another layer of sustain and pressure, particularly in PvP and longer encounters.

The practical priority is therefore:

Mythic+ → EX +10 → Supreme+ → EX +15

Players focused only on unlocking the boss mechanic can temporarily pause at EX +10. Anyone treating Rolan as a long-term PvE and PvP staple should plan for EX +15 rather than pretending the extra field effect does not matter.

 

Best Magic Charm for Rolan

A confirmed Rolan-specific Season 7 Charm recommendation had not yet been added to the current database at the time of writing. The Season 7 guide lists 17 Charm effects, but Rolan is not yet assigned to one of them.

 

Best Rolan PvP Teams

Lightbearer Multi-Core Shell

Rolan + Orion + Perseus + one Utility hero + one Carry

This setup combines two heroes who scale heavily with temporary stat buffs. Rolan can bless the two allies with the highest cumulative damage, while Aurelian contracts the rearmost ally, steals ATK from enemies and provides additional protection, healing and normal-attack support.

Because Rolan is a Celestial while Orion and Perseus are Lightbearers, at least one of the two flexible slots must also be a Lightbearer to meet Aurelian’s three-Lightbearer deployment requirement. The Utility and Carry slots should therefore be selected together rather than treated as two completely independent choices.

Celestial/Hypogean Support Shell

Rolan + Elijah & Lailah + Contess + one linked Celestial/Hypogean hero + one standalone hero

Rolan, Elijah & Lailah and Contess already satisfy the three-Celestial/Hypogean requirement needed to deploy Midnight Hunter. The fourth Celestial or Hypogean should be positioned inside Elijah & Lailah’s Stellar Bond whenever possible, allowing them to receive the link’s healing, Energy recovery, Haste-related support and later Ultimate refunds.

The final standalone slot can then be used for a hero who does not need the Stellar Bond to function. Midnight Hunter fits this core especially well because its Ancient Blessings build through kills, assists and Ultimate casts, while the entire Rolan–Twins–Contess engine is designed around surviving the opening and cycling Ultimates repeatedly.

 

Best Artifacts and Positioning

For the Lightbearer Multi-Core Shell, use Valorshield Spell or Frontline Spell. Valorshield is the safer option: it shields the frontmost and rearmost allies for up to 12 seconds, keeps both unaffected while the shields hold, grants the frontline extra defenses, and gives the backliner 60 Haste. Place Rolan in the rearmost position whenever possible so he receives the Haste and is harder to eliminate before Morale comes online. Frontline Spell suits more aggressive variants. Its opening Movement Speed and Haste help allies enter enemy territory, where they gain permanent shields; once three heroes cross over, its banner increases allied damage and reduces incoming damage on that side.

For the Celestial/Hypogean Support Shell, choose Wing Guard Spell or Magicsurge Spell. Wing Guard rewards a compact formation by creating a ward on the allied side that increases ATK, grants Steadfast, and absorbs part of the damage taken by heroes inside it. Keep Rolan, Elijah & Lailah, and Contess within the protected area whenever possible. Magicsurge is the more offensive option for longer fights, dealing teamwide damage at 10, 30, and 50 seconds while permanently reducing enemy Vitality and later ATK. It works best when this durable support core can survive long enough to reach the later casts.
