Scorchhowl is the Fire-type DPS payoff of the Emberpup line. This wolf skips the tanky, Break-oriented Inferlupa branch and goes all-in on damage. It leaps, it kicks, it sets things on fire, and it makes early-to-mid-game content look easy. Below, we cover how to get Scorchhowl and how to build around its strengths.

Where to Find Scorchhowl

You have two real options for getting a Scorchhowl on your team, and they serve different purposes.

Option 1: Catch it wild. Scorchhowl spawns naturally around Beast Fang Ridge. If you only need the Aniilog entry or want to skip the breeding investment, a wild catch is the fastest route. The spawn is a standard overworld appearance rather than a rare Alpha, so you can farm it with normal Aniipods.

Option 2: Raise it from Emberpup. This is the version you actually want on your team, because a raised Scorchhowl arrives with better innate potential and the full skill pool unlocked through the line. Emberpup is the earliest and cheapest entry point into this family, and it is easier to get in many locations such as Sea of Flowers and Brightbough Plateau.

Evolution: Emberpup → Flameruff → Scorchhowl

The Emberpup line is the first Aniimo family that forces a genuine branching decision. Scorchhowl and Inferlupa are parallel stage-three evolutions out of Flameruff: neither sits behind the other. Evolving into Scorchhowl does not progress you toward Inferlupa.

Blaze Stone ×1

You don't need to win the fight with the Flameruff in your party: defeating the Alpha simply unlocks the evolution entry in the menu. Once it's unlocked, any Flameruff at Level 20 with a Blaze Stone can evolve into Scorchhowl.

The Inferlupa branch, for comparison, requires completing Journey: Warrior in Beast Fang Ridge plus six Unbroken Flameruff Spirit items. That branch trades Fire damage for Break pressure and a second element. Scorchhowl keeps the pure Fire kit and adds a ranged option through Fire Bolt.

Stats

Scorchhowl's base stat total sits at 511, with the profile skewed heavily toward ATK. Stats are ATK 119, HP 95, P.Def 80, M.Def 75, Regen 90, and Break 52.

Stat

Value

Notes

HP

95

Middling: you'll want a healer or shielding support

ATK

119

The entire point of the creature

P.Def

80

Modest — Scorchhowl leans on dodge frames, not raw bulk

M.Def

75

The obvious weak side

Regen

90

Solid: keeps your kick cycle running

Break

52

Lowest stat. Scorchhowl does not break guards.

Scorchhowl is a pure damage slot. You are not bringing it for Break pressure, and you are not bringing it for team utility. You are bringing it because it hits Fire-weak targets extremely hard and has the mobility to stay in the fight. Pair it with a Breaker and a healer, and let it do its job.

Traits & Abilities

Traits

Scorchhowl Scorching Flames trait

Scorching Flames: Increases damage dealt to targets carrying 5 or more stacks of Fire abnormality by 15%. This is the core interaction that makes Fire Bolt valuable in longer fights: each Fire Bolt applies 2 stacks, so three casts reaches the threshold and turns on the passive.

Combat Skills

Scorchhowl Fire Kick skill

Fire Kick (Physical, 0 EP, 72 Might): The bread-and-butter dodge-kick. Jumps up for a brief invincibility frame, then dives down with fire around the body. A successful dodge triggers 120% damage and a 20% damage buff for 20 seconds. This is not just an attack, it's a defensive tool. The dodge frames are real, and the buff is substantial enough that you want to deliberately bait attacks before committing to the dive.

Scorchhowl Pebble Kick skill

Pebble Kick (Physical, 0 EP, 40 Might): Same dodge-kick animation but with rocks instead of fire. A successful dodge deals 120% damage and inflicts Blockade on hit targets for 8 seconds, preventing them from swapping Aniimo. This is a PvP and boss-mechanic tool more than a damage button. The base damage is low, but the Blockade utility in arena content is niche but real.

Scorchhowl Lightning Kick skill

Lightning Kick (Physical, 0 EP, 40 Might): The third kick variant, this one applies Paralysis for 5 seconds on a successful dodge. Paralysis is the control option in the kick suite. In practice, you'll use Fire Kick for damage windows and Lightning Kick when you need to stop a dangerous channel or set up a teammate's burst.

Scorchhowl Burn Breaker skill

Burn Breaker (Physical, 30 EP, 84 Might): The charged blast. Hold to charge, release for increased damage. At max charge, it consumes all remaining EP and deals an additional 30% damage for every 10 EP consumed beyond the base cost. This is the burst button. On a Born Ready opener with near-full EP, a max-charged Burn Breaker is the single highest-damage cast Scorchhowl has access to outside of the ultimate.

Scorchhowl Fire Bolt skill

Fire Bolt (Magical, 10 EP, 30 Might): Fires a fireball that applies 2 stacks of Fire Debuff for 5 seconds. Hold to aim. The damage is low, but this is your Scorching Flames enabler. Two casts put the target at 4 stacks; the third hits 6 and turns on the 15% damage amp. Against bosses with long health bars, front-loading three Fire Bolts before committing to the kick cycle is the correct opener.

Scorchhowl Falling Star ultimate

Falling Star (Physical, 170 Might, 0 EP): The innate ultimate. Scorchhowl leaps high and slams down with a flame-wreathed fist, dealing large-area damage. 170 Might is the highest single-instance damage in the kit, and it costs no EP. It has a long animation, so it's best used when the target is paralyzed, blockaded, or during a Born Ready window where you know you won't be interrupted.

Mobility

Scorchhowl Hustle mobility skill

Hustle: Scorchhowl enters a rapid state, moving at high speed while continuously draining stamina. This is the standard exploration movement ability shared across several Aniimo, but it matters more on Scorchhowl than on slower creatures because it lets you reposition between kick windows without losing uptime.

Team Building

Scorchhowl is a pure Fire DPS, so build your team around enabling it. The standard composition is: Main DPS + Breaker + Energy Regen + Buffer/Healer.

Below is an example team for Scorchhowl:

Scorchhowl

Wavwal

Wavwal

Somniwing

Somniwing

Glacy Fragrancier

Glacy / Fragrancier

Main DPS Breaker / Tank Energy Regen Healer / Buffer

This team works well for the main story, open-world bosses, and most situations. Wavwal handles Break and tanking in the front, Somniwing provides Energy Regen and vulnerability, Glacy or Fragrancier provides healing and damage support, while Scorchhowl comes in after a Break to deal burst damage. There is no rarity barrier. As long as the roles and elements line up, the team works well.

Final Thoughts

Scorchhowl is a practical, low-friction Fire DPS that rewards simple execution: apply Fire stacks, bait a dodge, then convert banked energy into a charged Burn Breaker. It is not the flashiest Aniimo in the roster, but it is one of the easiest strong DPS to raise, evolve, and slot into an early-to-mid-game team.
