After the Brawlers enter Duo’s classroom, ordinary language lessons descend into chaos. Duo then takes over Brawl Stars as a new PvE boss, challenging players with a mixture of combat, survival mechanics, and short language-based multiple-choice questions.

According to the official update notes, the collaboration includes:

The smaller three- and five-player battles provide a more traditional co-op experience, with defeated players able to respawn and return to the fight. They also give players a chance to learn Duo’s questions and attack patterns before attempting the largest version.

The 20-player Mega Boss Duo battle is far less forgiving. It uses elimination rules, meaning defeated players cannot respawn and are removed from the rest of the encounter. Although the larger team offers more combined damage, losing too many players early can make it much harder for the survivors to finish the fight. Careful positioning, correct answers, and avoiding unnecessary damage are therefore just as important as attacking Duo.

 

How the Duo Boss Fight Works

The battle alternates between two main parts: a lesson phase and an attack phase.

Lesson Phase

During the lesson phase, Duo becomes temporarily invulnerable and presents players with a language question. Several possible translations appear in different areas of the battlefield, and players must move onto the area containing the correct answer.

Correct answers grant beneficial effects inspired by Duolingo Streaks, helping players during the following combat phase. Choosing the wrong answer can instead result in damage or a negative effect.

These questions are integrated directly into the match, so players are not expected to complete full Duolingo lessons. The mechanic is closer to a fast multiple-choice challenge placed inside a Brawl Stars boss battle.

Attack Phase

After the question is resolved, Duo becomes vulnerable and players can attack him again. Duo also begins using powerful area attacks that force the team to reposition.

Preview footage has shown attacks such as a heavy forward strike using a broken-Streak sign, a circular attack around Duo, and battlefield hazards marked by large visual warnings. These moves are telegraphed, giving attentive players time to leave the affected area.

The basic rhythm is therefore straightforward: answer the question, collect the correct bonus, avoid Duo’s attacks, and deal as much damage as possible before the next lesson begins.

Increasing Boss Difficulty

Duo will not remain at the same strength throughout the event. Supercell states that players will face increasingly powerful versions of the boss as the collaboration progresses.

Higher-level encounters are expected to increase Duo’s health, damage, and overall pressure on the team. The official preview has displayed multiple difficulty levels, but Supercell has not yet published the exact health values, damage multipliers, or reward differences for each one.

 

Duolingo Community Event

Alongside the individual boss encounters, the collaboration includes a community event shared by the entire Brawl Stars player base.

Players will contribute to global objectives by participating in the event and defeating Duo. As the community makes progress, new milestones and exclusive rewards will become available through the event hub.

Supercell has confirmed that the community will collectively challenge increasingly powerful versions of Duo. However, the exact progress requirements, milestone values, and full reward track have not yet been revealed.

A separate seven-day reward track will be available through the Duolingo app. To participate, players must download Duolingo and log in each day. Announced milestone rewards include a Chaos Drop on Day 1, an exclusive Duo Pin on Day 4, and a collaboration Spray on Day 7.
