Character Overview

IMG_256

Hugo★★★★★|Attribute: OrderRanger

Hugo is a 5-star Order attribute Ranger character. His role is a follow-up sub-DPS, whose core mechanism relies on the passive effect "Commence the Hunt": it can stack up to 5 times, and triggers a follow-up attack (consuming one stack) when our side uses a single-target Attack Card.

Hugo's advantage lies in his efficient synergy with teams rich in Skill Cards and Upgrade Cards, providing considerable extra damage as a sub-DPS, especially compensating for the damage output of high-frequency, low-base-damage characters like Tressa. His main limitation is his relatively narrow team adaptability, requiring reliance on specific hyperactive main DPS and draw support to fully realize his potential.

Skill Mechanics & Core Gameplay

➤In-depth Skill Analysis

Core Skill:

Hunting Instincts

Outbreak of War: When another Combatant uses an Upgrade or Skill Card, gain 1 Commence the Hunt.

This is Hugo's most important Upgrade Card, type: Upgrade, AP Cost: 1.

This is the key to triggering the follow-up attack mechanism.

Ego Skill:

Last Resort

250% Damage to all enemies.

+30% Commence the Hunt Damage.

Unique Cards:

Fan of Daggers

60% x 3 Damage to random enemies.

Commence the Hunt for each target hit.

Quick Fix

80% x 2 Damage.

If in Commence the Hunt, Draw 1 Attack Card.

Dingo Howling

100% Shield.

2 Commence the Hunt.

Fixer's Approach

+40 Extra Attack of Commence the Hunt Damage.

These cards can enhance the "Commence the Hunt" effect or provide Shield and card draw under different conditions.

➤Combat Mechanics

Hugo's each follow-up attack deals 200~500 damage. When paired with hyperactive output characters like Mei Lin or Tressa, who can use 7~8 output cards and a large number of skill cards in one turn, Hugo can trigger a follow-up attack for each output card used. Cumulatively, Hugo's maximum output in a single turn can reach 3000~4000 points, not inferior to any main DPS.

➤ Stack Management is Key

When you have two Hunting Instincts, you can reach 5 stacks. Using two Attack Cards will reduce it to 3 stacks, then using one Skill Card can bring it back to 5 stacks. The general principle is to maintain 5 stacks for maximum damage and balance resources this way.

➤Core Loop

Prioritize playing "Hunting Instincts" to activate the synergy mechanism, then teammates trigger Hugo's continuous follow-up attacks by using a large number of low-cost Attack Cards and Skill Cards.

Card Build & Optimization Strategy

➤Core Deck Construction

Hunting Instincts

Fixer's Approach

Hugo's top-tier deck construction is extremely refined: Keep "Hunting Instincts" and "Fixer's Approach," delete all other cards as much as possible, and copy "Hunting Instincts" 1-2 times. This extreme build maximizes follow-up trigger frequency and damage output.

➤Epiphany Priority Selection

"Hunting Instincts": The "Outbreak of War" attribute is crucial, allowing the skill to be used automatically at the start of battle; Secondary choice is "50% Coordinated Attack", which increases Commence the Hunt damage by 50%, raising the damage from 2000 to 3000 in a scenario. Without the Outbreak of War attribute, it is recommended to copy it at least twice to increase the chance of drawing it in the first two rounds.

"Fan of Daggers": Single target, hits 3 times, "Commence the Hunt 2", stable stack generation against single targets.

"Quick Fix": Recommended "Draw two", which increases the chance of drawing core Skill Cards from teammates (e.g., Tressa's "Unsheathe Dagger").

"Dingo Howling": Choose based on the number of "Hunting Instincts" copies, "choose 3 if many copies, choose 5 if not many".

➤Card Removal Priority

Hugo's Shield Card > Basic Attack Card

First remove Defense System because it doesn't grant him stacks, followed by Dingo Howling without draw capability. Fan of Daggers can also be considered for removal if it fails to obtain the single-target version. Keep Quick Fix with draw capability, Hunting Instincts, and Fixer's Approach.

When encountering copy events, prioritize copying "Hunting Instincts". The formed loop is "play one card then can play two output cards", perfectly matching the hyperactive rhythm of Mei Lin and Tressa.

Equipment & Neutral Card Selection

➤Weapon Recommendations

·Rare Weapon:

M85 Military Grenade

When using a Buff Card, deals 100% Fixed Damage to all enemies.

Hugo has many Upgrade Cards to trigger this weapon effect.

·Legendary Weapon:

Second Method

Extra Attack Damage +30%.

Signature Weapon: Increases Extra Attack Damage by 30%, perfectly fitting Hugo's mechanism. This is the most recommended choice because it is not limited to specific worlds, can be obtained in the shop, and has wide applicability.

·Alternative Weapon:

Fairy King's Crown

Increases CRIT Rate by 6%.

Verdant Shackles

+10% ATK, +10% DEF.

Rare equipment, obtained from rare events in Swamp of Judgment. "Verdant Night" can be used as a lower-tier alternative.

➤Neutral Card Recommendations

IMG_256

Spirit Kefox

From the Draw Pile, choose 1 card to Draw, duplicate that card 1 time into hand. The most versatile card suitable for all roles.

When used by Hugo or teammates, consider copying "Unsheathe Dagger" or "Unity of Attack and Defense".

IMG_256

Evil Spirit Salamander

When used 2 times, this card moves to the Exhausted pile.

Probability drop in Swamp of Judgment, 0 Cost, draws 4 cards, deals damage and triggers "Commence the Hunt".

IMG_256

Quickdraw

150% Damage.

Mark 1.

0 Cost damage plus Mark, Epiphany can allow card draw, excellent for compressing deck.

IMG_256

Quick Shelling

80% Damage.

Draw 1.

Save Data Farming Location

Recommended Location: Swamp of Judgment

Although Hugo's Commence the Hunt extra attack carries no attribute, and the attribute advantage is not obvious here, Hugo has low dependency on equipment and neutral cards. Swamp of Judgment easily triggers copy events and has low overall difficulty, making it very suitable for stably and efficiently farming Hugo's Save Data.

Team Composition Analysis

➤Partner Selection

  • ·5-Star Partner Recommendations:

Tina: It's clear from the restricted Order attribute that she is tailored for Hugo. Her Ego Skill can provide more Extra Attack Damage and is considered the best partner.

Solia: Hugo can basically benefit from this bonus when drawing cards.

  • ·4-Star Partner Recommendations:

Rosaria: Active Skill can unlock Hunting Instincts in the deck that don't have Outbreak of War. Passive effect can also be stably triggered due to Hugo's many Upgrade and Skill Cards. Best choice for free-to-play players. Ego Skill can draw one Enhanced Card; if there are no Enhanced Cards in the draw pile, draw one normal card. This is very practical in Chaos runs.

➤Recommended Team Compositions

Hugo needs to cooperate with hyperactive output characters, who preferably also have many Skill Cards. The most suitable currently are: Mei Lin, Tressa, Rin, Renoa. To achieve multiple actions per turn, considerable card draw is often needed, so pair with Controller role characters, having them carry Equipment Packs.

➤Operation Mechanism Analysis

  • ·Opening Setup: Play two copies each of Tressa's "Shadow Reload" and Hugo's "Hunting Instincts" (Upgrade Card effects stack).

  • ·Core Loop:

Orlea uses "Promote Growth" on the creation "Toughie" (Heals 50%, triggers double Retain effect).

Hugo gains 2 passive stacks from the Skill Card (2 Upgrade Cards).

Tressa simultaneously gains 6 daggers (Toughie Retain 2 times + Promote Growth Heal 1 time) × 2 Upgrade Cards.

  • ·Sustained Operation:

Keep "Toughie" in hand, Tressa gains another 2 daggers after triggering heal at turn end.

Tressa's 0-cost daggers continuously trigger Hugo's follow-up attacks, forming an output loop.

➤ Strategic Advantages

  • Resource Allocation: Does not occupy Mika, allowing Mei Lin to form another team, more flexible for Abyss multi-team combat.

  • Synergy Benefit: Tressa's Shadow Reload (generates daggers when healed) perfectly synergizes with Hugo's Hunting Instincts.

  • Operation Key Points: Prioritize copying both sides' Upgrade Cards, ensure Orlea always retains Zhuang Zhuang to generate daggers.

This team integrates healing, card draw, dagger generation, and follow-up attacks through precise card interaction, demonstrating high tactical value.

Premium Team 2: Hugo + Mei Lin(Main DPS)+ Mika

Operation: Mei Lin serves as the main output, Mika is responsible for AP generation and card draw, Hugo provides follow-up attack damage.

Memory Fragment Recommendations

Not recommending the Order set, as it offers little improvement for Hugo. Although the Order set does increase his follow-up attack damage, since it requires him to use multiple Attack Cards in one turn to max the effect, which Hugo usually doesn't do, the benefit is low. Recommended 2+2+2 mixed set setup:

Cursed Corpse [2-PC]

Damage dealt to enemies inflicted with Agony +10%.

Hugo is mostly bound with Tressa, basically can benefit from the Cursed set effect.

Executioner's Tool [2-PC]

CRIT DMG +25%.

Extra Attack benefits from CRIT DMG.

Black Wing [2-PC]

ATK Set: ATK +12%.

Extra Attack benefits from Base ATK.

Practical Tips & Notes

  • Roguelike Environment Rating: 4 points (out of 5 full marks). Points deducted because not every Epiphany will result in the heal dagger; if the Epiphany misses, strength drops a notch.

  • Team Limitations: Hugo struggles to perform in teams with few Upgrade/Skill Cards or teams with high-cost Attack Cards and low single-turn attack frequency.

  • Copy Priority: In any copy event, prioritize copying "Hunting Instincts" is the most critical operation to boost Hugo's output.

  • Resource Allocation: In the early game, it is recommended to focus resources on investing in Hugo and core teammates, advance the main story to unlock more features.

  • Combat Pace: Hugo's follow-up attack animations are long; frequent triggering may slow down combat pace, affecting the gaming experience.

Conclusion

Hugo excels as a specialized follow-up sub-DPS. By focusing on a minimal deck, copying his core skills, and pairing him with a hyperactive main DPS, you'll unlock devastating damage, making him essential for high-level content. He is more like a supporting attacker than a main character, providing extra damage support for your main DPS without needing to frequently use his cards (except those that enhance Commence the Hunt).
