Clash Royale DECEMBER UPDATE 2025

The Clash Royale December Update 2025 is one of the biggest updates that the game has received recently. This has changed the whole concept of how you progress in the game and get rewards. This update is mainly focused on long term progression and you will now have some goal that you can chase even if you have reached your max card levels.

December Update 2025 Overview

The December Update 2025 has completely changed how you will play Clash Royale in the next few years. Because of things like Level 16 progression system, expansion of Trophy Road up to 12,000 trophies, introduction of Hero characters with unique abilities, and major changes to chests, Wild Cards, and XP scaling, this has become a milestone update in the game’s history. These changes have been brought mainly so that your progression in the game can be smoother and you can get more rewards.

Earlier if you were stuck in the max card levels and had nothing else to do then you can now have a bigger purpose and can start grinding again to reach the new levels and goals. This update also changes things like the competitive structure, access to ranked mode, reward economy, and how you can get high rarity items.

Hero System

In the new Hero system some new Heroes have been introduced. Heroes are basically upgraded cards of normal troops with more powerful stats. These are the first 4 Heroes that have been introduced:

• Hero Mini P.E.K.K.A: Using the ability Breakfast Boost, Hero Mini P.E.K.K.A can stack pancakes to gain levels in battle. You can stack upto 5 pancakes at a time.
• Hero Musketeer: Using the ability Trusty Turret, Hero Musketeer can spawn a short-range automatic turret in front of her that deals area damage to both ground and air units.
• Hero Knight: Using the ability Triumphant Taunt, Hero Knight can taunt nearby enemies and towers. By doing this he faces all the attack first and your other troops can work on attacking the opponent.
• Hero Giant: Using the ability Heroic Hurl, Hero Giant can pick up nearby troops and throw them into the opposite lane to stun and damage them.

You can use these Hero abilities every time you play with them but there are some limitations. To use Heroes effectively you have to first collect 200 Hero Fragments. You can get them from events, Hero Boxes or Pass Royale. If you somehow get a Hero that you already have then you will get more cards of that Hero and 60 Hero Fragments instead.

Reward Boxes & Chest System

The chest and reward system has also been updated. There are 2 new types of boxes now:

• Evolution Boxes: These contain Evolution Shards and can be earned from events.
• Hero Boxes: These only contain Hero Fragments and can be earned from events or the Pass Royale free track.

Earlier in Lucky Chests your reward was completely unpredictable. But now you can atleast know what to expect, and these boxes also have levels that match with how much progress you have made in the Trophy Road. For example, if you reach higher levels of Lucky Chests like the Magic Lucky Chest at Level 16, then you can get upto 7,500 Common cards using which you can easily upgrade a card from Level 15 to Level 16. You can also upgrade those Magic Lucky Chests to 5-Star Magic Lucky Chests and get even more rewards. Additionally, the drop rate for these high-level chests have also been increased.

Progression Changes

The progressing system in this update has become simpler but you can now get a lot more rewards than before. Many old progression mechanics like Elite Wild Cards have been removed and simpler systems of card copies and Gold have been introduced. All your remaining Elite Wild Cards will automatically get converted into Gems. Here is the list of all the other main progression changes that you will see:

• Level 16 is the new max card level in the game. Earlier it was Level 15.
• The King’s Journey cap has increased from Level 70 to Level 90. This means you can now get higher XP milestones.
• XP requirements for mid-range King levels (50–70) have been adjusted to make progress smoother.
• Other than card copies and wild cards you can also use Gems to fully upgrade your cards. This gives you a bit more flexibility in how you want to upgrade your cards. If you want to upgrade a card simply using Gems but don’t have enough then you can always opt for a Clash Royale top up. The Pass Royale system has also changed a bit. Now there are 2 types of Passes - one for players below Arena 15 and another for players at Arena 15 or higher. These changes have been done so that no matter what stage you are in you can get the best rewards for your progression.

Trophy Road Extension & Ranked Access Changes

One of the biggest structural changes in the December update is the Trophy Road rework. Because of this you will now have to use a new approach for Ranked play and progression.

Earlier after 10,000 Trophies in the Trophy Road your progression slowed. Then you would usually start to focus on Seasonal Arenas. This cap has now been increased to 12,000 Trophies, and 4 new Arenas have also been added.

These are the new Trophy Road arenas and their minimum requirements:

• Arena 25 - 10,000 Trophies
• Arena 26 - 10,500 Trophies
• Arena 27 - 11,000 Trophies
• Arena 28 - 11,500 Trophies

Also, Ranked Access has been detached from Seasonal Arena progress. Earlier if you wanted to unlock Ranked battles then you had to reach the end of some arenas. But now you can do that just based on how many Trophies you have. In December you will need 10,500 Trophies, in January you will need 11,000 Trophies and in February you will need 11,500 Trophies. If you manage to simply earn these Trophies then you can access Ranked battles.

All the Ranked cards will remain capped at Level 15 until May 2026 so that all players can get a balance before transitioning to Level 16 progression.

Quality-of-Life Improvements & Bug Fixes

There are also many new quality-of-life updates that make your UX and gameplay experience much smoother.

• If the special card in an event is different from the card you have in your collection then it will clearly display the special card stats in the event mode.
• You can change the position of your Hero ability buttons anywhere on your screen.
• Some visual effects like Champion crown indicators (e.g. Goblinstein’s monster) and deployment sounds like Royal Hogs Evolution have been added. These can make your battles much more immersive and you can also follow along in a better way.

Some balance fixes have also been introduced to make the game more fair for everyone.

• Firecracker Evolution, Valkyrie Evolution and Tornado no longer don't deal excess Crown Tower damage anymore.
• Now Monk can take damage from Firecracker projectiles even when ability is active.
• Three Musketeers now target more intelligently in battle.
• Miners don’t interact incorrectly with underground troops anymore.

Lastly there have been some bug fixes.

• Bugs affecting Royal Ghost Evolution have been resolved.
• Ranked best season display errors in player profiles have been fixed.
