EA SPORTS FC 27 is welcoming a new group of football legends to Ultimate Team, while also bringing back several established names as part of this year’s pre-order ICON pool.
Players who qualify for the early pre-order reward will receive one of 18 untradeable ICONs at the start of the season. Each arrives as a lower-rated Debut ICON before upgrading into a stronger Champion version later in the year.
This guide explains what ICON cards are, lists every FC 27 pre-order ICON with their nationality and ratings, shows exactly how to claim the reward, and compares the new pool with all 15 pre-order ICONs offered in FC 26.
What Are ICON Cards in EA FC?
ICONs are special Player Items representing some of the most influential players in football history. Unlike regular Ultimate Team cards based on current footballers, ICONs celebrate legendary careers, international achievements and defining moments from past eras.
They are generally positioned above Heroes in terms of overall historical recognition. Heroes tend to celebrate players closely associated with a particular league, club or memorable season, while ICONs represent legends whose influence extended across the wider game.
ICONs can appear in several different versions throughout an Ultimate Team season. The two versions featured in the FC 27 reveal are:
- Debut ICON: A lower-rated version inspired by the beginning of the player’s international journey.
- Champion ICON: The upgraded version representing the player after establishing themselves at the highest level.
EA calls the actual FC 27 pre-order reward an International ICON Player Item, while its official ratings reveal describes the initial cards as Debut ICONs.
Which FC 27 ICONs Are Pre-Order Rewards?
All 18 players in the table below are part of the confirmed FC 27 pre-order ICON pool.
Eligible players receive one random untradeable 85+ OVR International ICON from this group. You do not receive all 18 players, and the reward is not an ICON Player Pick. EA also states that the probability of receiving each player varies.
The pool contains:
- Ten new Class of ’27 ICONs
- Lúcio (Brazil) and Yaya Touré (Côte d’Ivoire), who return as ICONs after previously appearing as Heroes
- Six established ICONs returning in the special pre-order lineup
The ten new additions highlighted on the official FC 27 ICON Hub are Sergio Agüero (Argentina), Christine Sinclair (Canada), Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (Germany), Raphaël Varane (France), Pepe (Portugal), Tobin Heath (United States), Ellen White (England), Formiga (Brazil), Hege Riise (Norway) and Yuki Nagasato (Japan).
How to Get the FC 27 Pre-Order ICON

To qualify for the reward, players must:
- Pre-order the EA SPORTS FC 27 Ultimate Edition or Ultimate Plus Edition by August 31, 2026.
- Launch FC 27 and enter Football Ultimate Team with the eligible account.
- Receive one random, untradeable 85+ OVR International ICON from the 18-player pool.
- Keep the item in the club until it is upgraded to its corresponding Champion version.
The International ICON becomes available from September 18, 2026, alongside Early Access. EA states that the item will upgrade to its Champion version by November 30, 2026.
The Standard Edition does not include the FC 27 International ICON reward. Ultimate Edition orders placed after the early-bird deadline also lose access to this particular bonus.
Receiving an ICON gives you a strong player to build around, but the rest of the squad still needs the right balance of pace, creativity and defensive cover. Having enough FC 27 Coins gives you more freedom to fill those remaining positions through the Transfer Market.
All 18 FC 27 Pre-Order ICON Ratings

The FC 27 Debut ICONs begin between 85 and 86 OVR. Their Champion versions range from 89 to 91 OVR, giving every available player an upgrade of at least three rating points.
Biggest FC 27 ICON Upgrades
Seven players receive the largest overall increase of +5 OVR:
- Ruud Gullit (Netherlands): 86 → 91
- Zinedine Zidane (France): 86 → 91
- Christine Sinclair (Canada): 86 → 91
- Lúcio (Brazil): 85 → 90
- Hege Riise (Norway): 85 → 90
- Formiga (Brazil): 85 → 90
- Andrea Pirlo (Italy): 85 → 90
Another eight players improve by four overall points, while Yaya Touré (Côte d’Ivoire), Ellen White (England) and Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany) each receive a three-point upgrade.
The initial rating therefore does not tell the whole story. Lúcio (Brazil), Formiga (Brazil), Hege Riise (Norway) and Andrea Pirlo (Italy) all begin at only 85 OVR but eventually reach 90.
Best FC 27 Pre-Order ICONs on Paper
The complete FC 27 meta will also depend on PlayStyles, roles, Skill Moves, Weak Foot, body type and gameplay balance. Based only on the confirmed face attributes, however, several Champion ICONs already stand out.
Ruud Gullit — Best All-Rounder
Ruud Gullit’s 91 OVR Champion ICON combines 85 Pace, 89 Shooting, 90 Passing, 86 Dribbling, 81 Defending and 92 Physicality. No other player in the pool offers the same balance across attack, midfield and defence.
His combination of technical quality and physical presence should make him the most flexible pull, whether used as an advanced creator or an all-action central midfielder.
Zinedine Zidane — Best Creator
Zinedine Zidane also reaches 91 OVR, but his strengths are concentrated further forward. His Champion version features 92 Passing and 91 Dribbling alongside 89 Shooting.
He should be one of the strongest options for players looking for a central creator who can control possession, break lines and contribute directly around the penalty area.
Christine Sinclair — Most Complete Finisher
Christine Sinclair shares the highest Champion rating at 91 OVR. Her combination of 90 Shooting, 92 Dribbling and 86 Physicality gives her a well-rounded attacking profile rather than relying entirely on pace.
She may be especially effective for players who prefer controlled build-up and want a striker capable of receiving the ball under pressure.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge — Most Direct Striker
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s 90 OVR Champion version brings together 91 Pace, 89 Shooting and 91 Dribbling. Among the revealed strikers, he has one of the clearest profiles for attacking space and carrying the ball directly toward goal.
Lúcio — Best Defender
Lúcio reaches 90 Defending and 91 Physicality while retaining 82 Pace. That combination makes him the strongest central defender in the pool based on the currently revealed face attributes.
Raphaël Varane (France) also reaches 90 Defending, but Lúcio offers noticeably greater physical strength.
Formiga — Midfield Sleeper
Formiga’s Champion ICON may be one of the most underrated rewards. Her 87 Passing, 87 Dribbling, 87 Defending and 90 Physicality create an exceptionally balanced CDM profile.
While she does not carry the same headline appeal as Ruud Gullit (Netherlands) or Zinedine Zidane (France), her attributes should make her highly useful across several midfield roles.
FC 27 vs FC 26 Pre-Order ICONs
EA used a similar Debut-to-Champion system for FC 26. Players who pre-ordered the FC 26 Ultimate Edition by August 26, 2025 received one untradeable Debut ICON from a 15-player pool.
That Debut ICON became available during Early Access and upgraded to its Champion version on November 27, 2025. EA later added the Champion versions to the wider Ultimate Team item pool on November 29.
FC 27 expands the pool from 15 to 18 players, an increase of 20%. Its Champion ratings are also more tightly grouped: the highest cards stop at 91 rather than 92, but the lowest cards rise from 88 to 89.
This produces a more even reward pool. FC 26 offered a stronger top end through three 92-rated Champion ICONs, while FC 27 reduces the rating gap between its most and least valuable rewards.
All FC 26 Pre-Order ICONs and Ratings

The FC 26 pre-order roster contained 12 new Class of ’26 additions alongside three returning favourites: Ronaldo (Brazil), Thierry Henry (France) and Steven Gerrard (England).
How Has the Pre-Order Pool Changed?
FC 27 Covers More Nations
FC 26’s 15 ICONs represented nine different nationalities. FC 27 increases that figure to 14, adding a much wider geographical spread across Europe, North America, South America and Asia.
The FC 27 pool includes its first representatives in this comparison from Argentina, Canada, Côte d’Ivoire, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway and Portugal.
FC 26 Had the Stronger Top-End Ratings
Zlatan Ibrahimović (Sweden), Ronaldo (Brazil) and Andrés Iniesta (Spain) all reached 92 OVR in FC 26. No FC 27 Champion ICON goes beyond 91.
FC 26 also contained six players rated 91 or higher after their upgrades, while FC 27 has only three: Ruud Gullit (Netherlands), Zinedine Zidane (France) and Christine Sinclair (Canada).
FC 27 Has the Higher Floor
The weakest FC 26 Champion versions were Cha Bum-kun (South Korea) and Sissi (Brazil) at 88 OVR. Every FC 27 Champion ICON reaches at least 89.
That does not guarantee equal in-game value, but the tighter rating range should reduce the difference between the best and worst possible rewards.
FC 27 Offers More Defensive Variety
FC 26 included Oliver Kahn (Germany) in goal and Marcelo (Brazil) at left-back, positions that are missing from this year’s pool.
FC 27 instead provides three centre-backs, a right-back and a natural defensive midfielder. Lúcio (Brazil), Raphaël Varane (France), Pepe (Portugal), Gianluca Zambrotta (Italy) and Formiga (Brazil) give the new pool more defensive outfield options.
Is the FC 27 Pre-Order ICON Worth It?
For committed Ultimate Team players already planning to purchase the Ultimate or Ultimate Plus Edition, the ICON is one of the more valuable early-bird rewards.
Even the lowest Champion outcome reaches 89 OVR, while every Debut ICON should have enough quality to contribute during the opening phase of the season. The scheduled Champion upgrade also gives the item greater longevity than a typical launch reward.
However, players cannot choose their ICON, and EA confirms that the probabilities across the 18-player pool vary. A high overall rating also does not guarantee that every card will fit the gameplay meta or a particular squad.
FC 27 ICON FAQ
Conclusion
FC 27’s pre-order ICON pool is larger and more evenly balanced than last year’s, making the reward about more than simply pulling the highest OVR. Gullit, Zidane and Sinclair are the obvious headline names, but several 85-rated Debut ICONs—including Lúcio, Formiga and Pirlo—eventually reach 90.
That delayed progression is what makes the promotion interesting. The player you receive on September 18 may only be a starter-squad option at first, but their Champion upgrade could completely change their value by November 30.
