EA SPORTS FC 27 Ultimate Team Updates: New Features and Updated Classics

EA SPORTS FC 27 is set to reshape the Ultimate Team experience with a stronger focus on customization, long-term progression, and player choice. Rather than relying only on stronger Player Items or repeating familiar FUT systems, this year’s changes give players more ways to build, display, and develop their clubs.

FUT Gallery – Your Club’s Trophy Room

One of the biggest additions coming to FC 27 Ultimate Team is the new FUT Gallery, which gives Player Items a lasting record inside your club and creates a new path toward rewards.

Most eligible Player Items obtained through Packs, the Transfer Market, Objectives, SBCs, and other FUT rewards can become part of the Gallery. Loan Items are not eligible, while Evolution Items are represented by their original base Item. Even after an Item is sold or submitted into an SBC, its Gallery record can still contribute to themed Sets based on Nations, Leagues, Clubs, Campaigns, and other categories.

Completing a Set gives it a Set Grade based on the score of the Items added to it, with higher-OVR and special versions generally contributing more. Tags can reward specific combinations, such as including a required number of Gold Items, Campaign Items, or other Item types. Favourite Sets and Player Items can also appear inside the Gallery Hub on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

 

Hall of FUT – Celebrating Legends

EA SPORTS FC 27 also introduces Hall of FUT, a new Player Item type created to celebrate footballers who became especially memorable within Ultimate Team culture.

FUT history has been shaped not only by the biggest real-world names, but also by community favourites whose pace, strength, links, or unique in-game qualities made their cards unforgettable. Hall of FUT honours those virtual-pitch icons even when they are not classified as traditional ICON Player Items.

The inaugural Hall of FUT class features Adebayo Akinfenwa, Marouane Fellaini, Loïc Rémy, Eljero Elia, and Giovani dos Santos. The Ultimate Plus Edition includes an untradeable 1 of 5 Hall of FUT Direct Player Pick from this first group, while EA has confirmed that more information about future inductees and other ways to obtain Hall of FUT Items will be shared closer to launch.

 

Holographic Items – Unique Visual Flair

Another visual-focused addition in FC 27 Ultimate Team is the introduction of Holographic Items, which are rarer visual versions of eligible special Player Items.

When an eligible special Item is available in a Pack, a Holographic version of the same Item may also be available. The player and all in-match Attributes remain identical to the standard version; the difference comes from the Item’s rarity and premium visual presentation.

There are two Holographic types: Regular Holographic Items use an animated foil effect, while Pristine Holographic Items add an even more premium appearance, including a stylized player-name treatment. These Items can be used in squads, displayed in the Gallery, or found on the Transfer Market, and they contribute more to a Gallery Set’s score than their standard counterparts. To simplify base Item rarity, Bronze, Silver, and Gold Items will also no longer be divided into Common and Rare categories in FC 27.

 

Live Events & Tokens – Play Your Way

The new Campaign Hub brings current Objectives, SBCs, Evolutions, Gallery Sets, Live Events, and other campaign content together in one place. Single-player Live Events expand themed FUT content against AI opponents, while Event Tokens return as another way to progress toward selected rewards.

• Live Events

FC 27 adds single-player Live Events against AI opponents. These events can feature custom squads, unique rules, specific squad requirements, themed opposition, and Objectives designed around the event rather than functioning like standard matches against the CPU.

Some events can unfold through connected stages. Earlier matches may offer selectable difficulties and more accessible requirements, while later rounds can introduce stronger opponents, fixed difficulty levels, and tougher squad restrictions. This gives players who prefer single-player FUT content another way to take part in themed events and progress at their own pace.

• Tokens

Event Tokens were first introduced in FC 26 during The World’s Game Update and will continue in FC 27 through various evergreen and event-specific programs.

Tokens provide another route through an event and can be earned across different game modes, allowing players to work toward rewards of their choice without limiting every campaign to one fixed progression path.

 

Season Progression & Rewards – More Ways to Earn

EA SPORTS FC 27 adjusts how rewards support Season progression, with the aim of making progress feel more immediate and flexible across the modes players choose to play.

At launch, EA expects a portion of the rewards previously tied to weekly mode rewards and Live Event Objectives to move into Match Coins and SP earned after matches in select modes. This should connect the Seasonal Ladder more directly to regular gameplay and allow players to continue progressing after completing weekly reward requirements.

EA also plans to increase the share of earned rewards delivered through direct FUT Coins and tradeable Packs. Across the wider season, FC 27 will slow the scale of Attribute and PlayStyle growth, reduce the maximum number of PlayStyle+ traits on one Item from five to three, and release Campaign Squads during approximately five fewer weeks, helping important Items remain relevant for longer.

 

Gameplay Enhancements – More Control

FC 27 places more responsibility on the player through stronger manual defending, reduced AI auto-tackling in Competitive gameplay, greater control before direct corner deliveries, smarter attacking runs, and off-balance dribbling for players with the required Attributes.

• AI Defending

One of the biggest changes is the reduced influence of AI defending in Competitive gameplay. AI-controlled defenders will rely more on positioning and support instead of automatically attempting tackles, while their interception reach is also reduced compared with manually controlled players.

To support this shift, manually controlled defenders receive faster jockey movement and greater stand-tackle range than in FC 26. Switching to the right defender, reading the dribbler, timing tackles, and positioning well should therefore play a larger role in winning possession.

• Corners

Direct corner kicks now give players control over two connected parts of the routine:

• Delivery setup – Target the desired area and prepare the cross before the ball is played.
• In-box control window – The camera shifts toward the box, allowing you to move or switch attackers, make runs, Shield, or use the new Avoidance mechanic before the delivery arrives.

Players in the box will no longer automatically move into the best position to meet a corner. Timing the run, attacking open space, creating separation, and making first contact become more manual, giving well-executed routines more varied and skill-based outcomes.

This control window applies to direct corner deliveries rather than short corners. For competitive FUT players, the changes should create more room for planned movement and different set-piece approaches instead of repeatedly relying on the same automated routine.

• Attacking Movement & Dribbling

Updated Attacking Spatial Awareness helps AI-controlled attackers recognise open space, the defensive line, and developing passing lanes more effectively. Improved Creative Runs also allow off-ball movement to react more naturally to the situation rather than following one predictable path.

Triggered Curved Runs and Pass & Follow Runs provide new ways to guide teammates around defenders or into open space. Meanwhile, off-balance dribbling allows players with sufficient Balance, Agility, and Dribbling Attributes to maintain control after some collisions or shoulder challenges. Off-balance dribbling is available only on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

 

Simplified SBCs – Faster Rewards

Streamlined Squad Building Challenges introduce a quicker format for selected SBC types. Instead of assembling a full squad around Chemistry, positions, and a squad OVR requirement, players submit eligible Items toward a target score. Traditional SBCs remain available for more puzzle-focused Challenges.

Traditional SBCs require players to balance multiple squad conditions at once, which remains useful for Challenges built around team-building puzzles. For many Player and Upgrade SBCs, however, EA wants to reduce repetitive setup and make it easier to manage club stock and duplicate Items.

In Streamlined SBCs, each eligible Item contributes a score based on its OVR and rarity. Players can submit duplicates, use more lower-rated Items or fewer higher-rated Items, and save partial progress before returning later. EA plans to use this format for the majority of Player and Upgrade SBCs while continuing to support Traditional SBCs where the classic squad-building format makes sense.

 

Evo Pathways – Personalized Player Growth

Evolutions continue in FC 27 with better planning tools and more player choice. Some Evolutions can now include branching Pathways, allowing players to choose between different development directions instead of following one fixed upgrade route.

Depending on the available Pathway, choices can affect Attribute upgrades and added PlayStyles. For example, one branch may improve dribbling and add Technical, while another may strengthen defensive awareness and add Jockey. Not every Evolution uses Pathways, and traditional linear Evos will remain available.

The new Evolution Chain Preview lets players see how one Evolution may lead into another before committing, making longer upgrade plans easier to evaluate. The PlayStyles Lab also returns as a recurring program beginning in Season 1, allowing eligible Items to fine-tune part of their PlayStyle selection.
