EA SPORTS FC 27 The Grounds gives Clubs a brand-new social home, bringing your Virtual Pro into a shared football world built for both serious competition and casual fun.

Instead of waiting in menus for the full squad to arrive, players can meet friends, jump into quick matches, explore different activities, and then head straight into Clubs action. But how does The Grounds actually work, and is it really more than a stylish new lobby?

The new season is calling

The countdown to FC 27 has begun.

Pre-order your FC 27 PC key or gear up with Ultimate Team Coins for the season ahead.

What Is The Grounds in EA SPORTS FC 27?

The Grounds is EA SPORTS FC 27’s new shared football world and the new home of Clubs. It supports up to 100 players in the same space, letting you meet Clubmates, customise and develop your Virtual Pro, and move between casual street football and full 11v11 competition.

The mode brings Clubs, Rush, Small-sided matches, Kickabouts, and seasonal progression under one roof. It is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, but not on PS4, Xbox One, or the original Nintendo Switch.

How The Grounds Changes the Clubs Experience

FC 26 expanded Clubs with Archetypes, multiple Club membership, Rush Live Events, and a redesigned lobby. FC 27 goes a step further by turning those systems into places and activities that players can access inside a shared world.

EA FC 27 The TerraceEach session begins near The Terrace, which connects three districts inspired by French urban football, Argentina’s potrero culture, and British working-class football. From there, players can head directly to the Clubhouse, enter stadium activities, visit shops, or join matches and Kickabouts across the neighbourhood.EA FC 27 Mentor Chloe Kelly

Four Mentors help introduce the different sides of The Grounds. Alex Hunter focuses on player development, Kylian Mbappé represents creative Small-sided football, Chloe Kelly is tied to grassroots Kickabouts, and Paulo Dybala guides Clubs competition and team identity.

What Do You Actually Do?

The loop is easy to understand: meet your friends, choose an activity, earn progress, and contribute to your Club. You can enter Leagues or Playoffs, join a matchmade stadium mode, play a short street game, try a Kickabout, or explore the districts for objectives.

Drop Kick Targets add a light exploration layer. Players can summon a ball and attempt to break circles, rings, and pentagonal targets by carefully controlling their kick power.

Campaigns can connect several activities into a larger path. A seasonal event might begin with a Kickabout or Small-sided match before leading into Rush or an 11v11 stadium competition, with new rewards, rules, activities, and visual changes arriving throughout the year.

Serious Clubs Football Remains the Main Event

EA FC 27 Clubhouse

The Grounds looks playful, but traditional Clubs is still at its centre. Leagues and Playoffs return through the Clubhouse, while 11v11 Club Live Tournaments provide another competitive route beyond the usual division climb.

Tournaments can vary in rounds, rewards, and match rules. Confirmed House Rules include Mystery Ball, King of the Hill, No Rules, Headers and Volleys, Survival, and Long Range.

Stadium Drop In connects the shared world to classic skill-based matchmaking for 11v11 Drop-In, Stadium Rush, and Rush Live Tournaments.

Rush Stadium also includes Ranked Rush and Rush Tournaments, so players looking for organised competition are not limited to the casual games taking place around the neighbourhood pitches.

Small-Sided Football Fills the Downtime

The Grounds supports 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and an in-world version of Rush. Each match lasts three minutes, making these modes perfect for warming up or keeping busy while the rest of the Club joins.

In 1v1, each side controls one outfield player alongside a CPU goalkeeper. The 2v2 and 3v3 formats use smaller goals without keepers. Passing is Fully Assisted, but shooting is Manual, adding a little more skill to finishing.

Fouls remain active, although free kicks have been adapted for the smaller pitches. The fouled player must shoot from the foul location—or from a designated spot after an offence inside the area—while passing and dribbling are temporarily disabled.

It is a small change, but it helps these matches feel purpose-built rather than regular football squeezed onto a tiny pitch.

Seven Kickabouts Add the Party-Game Side

Kickabouts remix familiar FC controls with ideas from basketball, dodgeball, racing, bocce, and territory games. Seven activities have been confirmed, and each has a genuinely different objective.

Bocce Ball and Team Keepaway

EA FC 27 Bocce Ball

Bocce Ball is a three-player contest about passing or shooting balls into targets that split into smaller, more valuable zones. Rings provide additional points, while landing in Dead Zones carries a penalty.

Team Keepaway is a 3v3 possession game. Holding the ball, completing passes, building passing streaks, making interceptions, and winning tackles all increase the score, while fouls deduct points.

The Big Race and Attacking Scenarios

The Big Race turns dribbling into a four-player obstacle course. Players guide their balls through gates, avoid lava floors and moving barriers, and navigate Defender Zones across three variations of the same track.

Attacking Scenarios is a 2v2 challenge with changing scoring conditions. One round might demand a first-time finish, while another asks for an aerial goal, a wall bounce, several passes, or a shot taken after moving through gates. A normal goal does not count unless it meets the active condition.

Bucket Ball, Balloon Ball, and Goal Control

EA FC 27 Balloon Ball

Bucket Ball mixes football with basketball. Two-player teams score through hoops using precision lob passes, headers, and aerial spikes, with longer attempts and spikes offering greater rewards.

Balloon Ball plays more like football dodgeball. Four players protect three balloons each while using powerful shots to pop their opponents’ balloons. Temporary abilities include invincibility, flying tyres, and a Boomerang Ball that can chain between players.

Goal Control is a 1v1 territory game featuring eight goals. Scoring claims a goal, scoring into an opponent’s goal steals it, and controlling more of the pitch generates more points.

These modes are not intended to replace football. Their real value is giving mixed-skill groups something quick, cute, and slightly chaotic to enjoy between serious Club matches.

Progression Is Easier to Experiment With

All Archetypes are unlocked from the beginning in FC 27. Resets no longer cost Coins or a Reset Consumable, and individual attributes can be adjusted without rebuilding the entire setup.

Changes can be made through the in-world menu, Clubhouse, Clubs lobby, or Rush lobby. For squads whose members regularly switch positions, this may be more useful than the open world itself.

EA FC 27 Masteries

Masteries also reward trying different roles. Reaching milestones with one Archetype grants permanent attribute boosts across every build. Levelling the Finisher Archetype to Level 10, for example, improves Finishing and Composure for every Archetype.

Amps and Consumables Shape Your Builds

EA FC 27 Amps

Amps are temporary items that improve an active Archetype for a limited number of matches. Players can equip two Standard Amps and one Signature Amp at the same time.

Tier 1 and Tier 2 Standard Amps provide attribute boosts. Tier 3 Signature Amps can add attributes, PlayStyles, and Perks, while Tier 4 versions can include PlayStyles+.

Amps work in stadium matches and in-world Rush. They can be earned through Objectives, Live Events, Campaigns, seasonal progression, or the Store.

Consumables continue to support Archetype progression, but FC 27 adds more targeted versions. Some can provide AXP to any Archetype, one specific Archetype, or a positional group such as midfielders.

New catch-up options are designed to help players who begin later in the year, while individual Consumables can now have different level caps.

The added flexibility sounds useful, although Amps will probably become one of the mode’s biggest talking points. Temporary boosts can create fun seasonal builds, but their availability will matter greatly to competitive players.

Edition choice is also worth checking if you want a small head start in The Grounds. Eligible pre-orders include extras such as a Signature Sweatsuit, a Tier 3 Amp, and 2× AXP for 10 matches, while PC players can compare the available EA app editions on LDShop’s EA SPORTS FC 27 PC key page.

Everyone Can Help the Club Progress

Club Objectives allow members to contribute even when they are not all online together. A Club might work toward several League wins while also combining every member’s victories from 1v1 activities.

Club Milestones are long-term goals that award Fans and improve Club Reputation. Weekly and Seasonal Objectives can provide Amps, Consumables, and Coins, while Elite Objectives give top-division Clubs additional targets.

This is a smart fit for real Clubs communities. Gathering a full squad is often the hardest part, so allowing individual play to support a shared goal should make progression feel much less restrictive.

Style, Stores, and Seasonal Rewards

EA FC 27 street outfits

Players can create separate street and stadium outfits. Up to eight Emotes can be assigned to a wheel for social interactions and post-match celebrations in Kickabouts and Small-sided games.

The Grounds Store in The Terrace carries the wider cosmetic selection, while the three district stores offer smaller ranges inspired by their local identities. The separate Menu Store focuses more heavily on Amps and Consumables.

Completing objectives earns Season Points for a reward track containing outfits, accessories, Emotes, Amps, Consumables, and Coins. Players can also upgrade to a Premium Pass for additional rewards.

These rewards are tied to The Grounds and Clubs, rather than the FUT Coins used in Ultimate Team. Planning to split your FC 27 time between street football and squad building? You can also check FC 27 Coins at LDShop when preparing your Ultimate Team.

Is This FC’s Answer to NBA 2K’s The City?

NBA 2K’s The City

The comparison is natural. NBA 2K’s The City also connects a custom athlete, online competition, social spaces, stores, communities, cosmetics, challenges, and seasonal progression inside one shared environment.

The difference is its centre of gravity. The City focuses heavily on the individual MyPLAYER journey and status, while The Grounds revolves around Club identity, shared objectives, and team-based football.

Major stadium activities in The Grounds also move players into traditional matchmaking rather than relying entirely on opponents found inside the shared world.

It therefore feels less like a direct copy and more like EA adapting the social-hub idea to the way Clubs players organise and compete.

Conclusion

The Grounds feels like a genuinely fresh direction for Clubs. It gives players more to do when the full squad is not online, makes experimenting with different builds far less frustrating, and adds a playful side without pushing 11v11 football into the background. There are still questions around Amps, matchmaking speed, and whether the shared world will stay lively all season, but the idea has plenty of potential. Done right, The Grounds could be the place where FC 27 feels most social, spontaneous, and fun.
