The FIFA World Cup is nearly here and EA Sports FC 26 has introduced one of its biggest content updates called the World’s Game Update. This update adds a fully featured World Cup-inspired tournament experience along with a lot of new Ultimate Team content. After EA lost its FIFA license this is the closest thing you can get to a traditional FIFA World Cup.
The update focuses mainly on international football. It brings national teams, authentic tournament structures, special rewards and new Ultimate Team promotions that are all focused on the biggest football competition in the world. The good thing to note is that it is a completely free update given the huge amount of new content it adds to the game. It also introduces important gameplay adjustments and fresh rewards that can even decide the Ultimate Team meta for the rest of the game this year.
Let’s follow LDShop, as in this guide you will learn everything you need to know about FC 26’s new World Cup mode, tournament features, rewards and the current Ultimate Team scenario.

National Teams and Tournament Features
EA has introduced 53 fully licensed and playable national teams including the 41 teams that will actually be playing in the World Cup. The roster has the usual football giants like Brazil, Argentina, France, England, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy and the Netherlands. But you also get to use emerging football nations like Cabo Verde, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Panama, Qatar and others.

There is also a separate 48-team tournament mode where you will have to play through 3 group matches and the top 2 from each group + the 8 best 3rd teams will be qualified for the 32 round knockouts, just like in real life. The ranking criteria are highly detailed and designed to mirror real international tournament regulations. Group standings are determined by points, head-to-head points, head-to-head goal difference, head-to-head goals scored, overall goals scored and overall goal difference. For 3rd-place qualification points is the main factor followed by goal difference, goals scored and fair play points.
For points EA follows the usual point system i.e. 3 for win, 1 for draw and 0 for loss. For fair play deductions teams will get -1 point for a yellow card, -3 points for an indirect red card, -4 points for a direct red card and -5 points for a yellow card followed by a direct red.

The most important thing is that EA has managed to make the experience quite authentic. You will see real stadiums like Gillette Stadium and BMO field, official match presentation elements, authentic tournament atmospheres and licensed national team squads. However since EA does not have the official FIFA license it is more like an unofficial recreation of the whole thing. If you don’t want to progress through Career Mode or other game modes then you can jump directly into the real experience using the tournament mode. Other than the tournament there is also a Kick Off mode where you can choose between 60 teams in total. Here you can create custom international matchups whenever and however you want.

Pelé ICON Rewards and Festival of Football Content
One of the best parts of The World's Game Update is the free Festival of Football ICON Pelé reward. If you login between 5th June and 24th July then you will get a special 93-rated Pelé card along with 3 "Choose Your Journey" Evolutions. You will also get customization options for this card. You can choose 3 different starting paths as well - ST with Low Driven+, CAM/CM with Incisive Pass+ and LW/RW with Finesse Shot+.
As you progress through these Evolutions you can further develop the card while reliving key moments from one of football's most legendary tournament performances. Festival of Football also introduces new themed objectives, rewards, live content and progression systems throughout the summer. This makes it one of the most extensive FUT events of the FC 26 cycle.

World Cup Content in Ultimate Team
FUT has got the most content updates in The World's Game Update. You can now get access to a dedicated Festival of Football Event Hub, new Evolutions, weekly promotional campaigns, special objectives and a completely new reward structure. The main focus of this update is Journey of Nations. This Event Hub is basically a full season progression system where you can travel through 5 main football regions of the world. Each week will focus on a different region and will have themed objectives based on historic nations, legendary players and emerging international stars. Here is the schedule:
- 4th June - North America
- 12th June - Asia + Oceania
- 19th June - Africa
- 26th June - South America
- 3rd July - Europe
There are a total of more than 250 challenges in which you can compete and earn rewards. EA will also add 100 new international pools in the FUT item pool so that you can create authentic international squads. Even if these rewards are not enough for you then you can always buy FC 26 coins to get an advantage. The best platform to make the top-up is LDShop, it lets players top up for less and it is a great way to save money.
Festival of Football Promotional Campaigns
The Festival of Football will have 5 main promotional campaigns between 5th June and 24th July. Let us take a look at the campaigns:
- Path To Glory (5th June to 19th June) - It has live Player items that upgrade based on their international tournament performances.
- Greats of the Game (19th June to 26th June) - It introduces Mario Kempes and Rivellino as 2 brand new ICONs.
- Glory Hunters (26th June to 10th July) - It focuses on PlayStyle customization and squad building flexibility.
- Phenoms (10th July to 17th July) - It highlights the most promising young stars and international phenomenal talents.
- Summer Stars (17th July to 24th July) - It adds the best performers and biggest moments from the summer’s international matches.
Recurring programs like Showdowns, National Pride and Star Performers will also run throughout the event.
Gameplay Changes and the Ultimate Team Meta
EA has also added some important gameplay balance updates. Earlier a lot of players in the community suggested that shoulder challenges were too powerful. So EA has nerfed Bruiser and Bruiser+ and their strength boosts have been slightly reduced. Also if a card has Enforcer and Enforcer+ playstyles then they will get balancing bonuses when getting shoulder challenges.
Physical duels will now depend more on Strength ratings and PlayStyle interactions. Strong defenders will still dominate physical challenges but agile attackers will have more chances to recover possession when they have similar stats. The Intercept PlayStyle has also been updated. If you don’t have the Intercept PlayStyle but have 90 or more Interceptions then you can now get some of the same interception animations.
There have been a lot of balancing adjustments to Team Press as well. AI-controlled defenders will apply less aggressive pressure in defensive areas, reduce excessive double-teaming and provide more realistic marking behavior. But aggressive pressing will still be effective when activated in attacking zones. These gameplay changes will create a more balanced competitive environment and you don’t have to rely on just some dominant tactics.
Evolution Changes and PlayStyles Lab
The World's Game Update has added some of the most requested Evolution features ever added to Ultimate Team. In the new Evo Undo system you can completely reset Evolutions applied to cards. If a tradable card originally entered an Evolution path then you can reset the Evolution and the card will go back to its tradable status. This means you can experiment with upgrades a lot more than earlier.

EA is also adding the PlayStyles Lab. Using this feature you will be able to choose specific PlayStyles and PlayStyles+ for selected Festival of Football Evolutions. Rather than accepting predetermined upgrades you can now customize your cards according to your preferred playstyle. Another major addition is Evo Repeatables. These are special rewards that will give you extra Evolution entries which means you can keep improving more cards throughout the event.
Conclusion
The World's Game Update is one of the biggest FC 26 updates so far. It adds a new international tournament mode, free rewards, major Ultimate Team content, Evolution improvements and gameplay changes. So get into the game and start enjoying the new update for absolutely free!
