Evony Constantine XI Build Guide: Skills, Best Pairings & How to Get

Constantine XI is not a general you "pull and plug in." He is a project. On paper, his maximum mounted buffs look absurd—+280% Attack, +228% Defense, +185% HP, and +22% March Size. But those numbers do not come from one lucky chest. They come from a fully ascended, fully covenanted, fully specialized main general. Understanding that distinction is the difference between making a smart investment and wasting fragments on a general you cannot finish.

This guide breaks down what Constantine XI actually does, how to test pairings before you spend, and the only reliable way to acquire him during his debut window.

The Skills: Why His Fourth Specialty Is the Real Payday

Constantine XI

Constantine XI’s special skill, Glory of the Last Emperor, is refreshingly straightforward: when leading an attacking army, mounted troops gain +65% Attack, +65% Defense, and +50% HP. That is already a balanced offensive package. He does not ignore survivability to chase damage numbers.

But the skill that changes everything is his fourth specialty, Lone City Defense. Despite the name sounding like something you would assign to a wall general, the bonuses are explicitly offensive: +65% attacking mounted Attack, +50% attacking mounted Defense, and +50% attacking mounted HP. The first three specialties combined contribute less mounted Attack than this single unlock. This is why a fresh Constantine XI feels mediocre while a maxed one feels oppressive.

His Covenant adds another layer: +25% mounted Attack, +18% mounted Defense, +25% mounted HP, and +10% March Size, plus 10% mounted training speed . The Covenant requires Alfred the Great, John Hunyadi, and Charles V as linked generals, along with attribute thresholds you must meet . Do not count these bonuses until you have verified the requirements on your live account.

The five red stars are where Constantine XI transitions from "good assistant option" to "serious main general." Full ascension contributes +95% attacking mounted Attack, +85% Defense, +40% HP, and +12% March Size, plus a separate +8% attacking mounted death-to-wounded rate. That casualty conversion is not a damage buff—it is a sustainability mechanic that keeps your march alive longer.

How to Get Constantine XI: The Halloween Window

How to Get Constantine XI: The Halloween Window

Constantine XI debuted in October 2026, and his acquisition path is event-gated, not Tavern-based. The in-game general screen explicitly states he is temporarily unavailable in the Tavern, and the displayed 60 million Gold value does not reflect a purchasable recruitment route.

During his launch window, Constantine XI is available through the Historic General Summoning Event tied to the Halloween update. He appears in the fifth-tier Event Package, and the summoning event increases the odds of pulling him as an Epic Historic General (Glory). The event also includes a guaranteed reward within every six summons, giving you a floor for your spending .

What this means practically: if you want Constantine XI, you need to participate in the active event before it rotates out. Do not expect to find him in the Tavern afterward. Do not assume a generic "Epic Historic General" chest guarantees him specifically. Read the event wording. Check whether the reward is a full general, fragments, or a choice chest. One copy is the starting line, not the finish line.

Best Pairings: Test Before You Trust

  • Select Constantine XI as your Main General.
  • Add your intended Assistant General.
  • Check whether either general’s special skill grays out.

If a skill turns gray, that pairing is dead. The theoretical numbers do not matter if a key buff goes inactive.

Early testing suggests Constantine XI pairs cleanly with several recent mounted generals. Shaybani (Stephen I of Hungary) has been shown to match without skill conflicts, and Napoleon Prime is a commonly cited assistant candidate for solo attacks against enemy cities. Sanada Yukimura is worth considering if you also use your mounted march for monster hunting. But these are starting points for your own testing, not gospel.

The March Size Trap (And Why It Matters)

Constantine XI’s +22% March Size comes from two sources: the Civilization Covenant (+10%) and the fifth red star (+12%). This is genuinely valuable—but only if you have the troops to fill the slots.

A player with 800,000 mounted troops cannot benefit from an extra 22% capacity if they have nothing to put in it. March Size is a multiplier on your existing army, not a replacement for it. If your mounted troop count is low, prioritize training before chasing capacity bonuses.

Also: March Size is not Rally Capacity. Do not let anyone tell you Constantine XI is a rally-leading specialist because of that 22%. He is a solo attacker first.

Main vs. Assistant: The Decision That Saves You Fragments

This is the most important section of this guide. If you plan to use Constantine XI only as an assistant, stop investing in his red stars immediately.

Under standard Evony mechanics, assistant generals do not contribute ascension effects, equipment buffs, or base attributes to the march. An assistant Constantine XI can still provide his compatible special skill and eligible specialties, but the +95% Attack from five red stars? That stays home.

This means:

  • As a Main General, Constantine XI justifies heavy investment. You get the full package: skill, specialties, ascension, equipment, cultivation, and covenant.
  • As an Assistant General, Constantine XI is a testing tool. Use him to see if his skill stacks with your existing main. Do not pour fragments into red stars for an assistant-only role.

If you are unsure which role he will play, test him as an assistant first. Run a few marches. Compare results. Then decide whether he deserves main-general investment.

Skill Books and Equipment: Keep It Simple

For a conventional mounted PvP build, the logical skill book categories are Mounted Attack, Mounted HP, Mounted Defense, and March Size. Mounted Attack and HP are the safest starting combination. Mounted Defense is viable if your pairing leaves you vulnerable. March Size is worth testing if you have the troops to support it.

The critical check: no skill book should gray out in your final pairing. A high-level book that conflicts with your main general’s skill is a wasted slot.

For equipment and refines, the principle is the same. Prioritize mounted Attack, Defense, and HP with coherent mounted refinements. But do not dismantle an existing mounted build that already works just to gear Constantine XI. If your current main has strong equipment, high ascension, and a developed dragon, moving everything to Constantine XI may be a sidegrade—not an upgrade.

The Verdict: Exceptional Ceiling, Conditional Investment

Constantine XI is a high-ceiling offensive mounted general with a coherent kit. His special skill is balanced, his fourth specialty is a massive power spike, and his ascension package rewards long-term investment. With everything maxed, he contributes +280% Attack, +228% Defense, +185% HP, and +22% March Size to attacking mounted troops .

But three questions must come before any serious spending:

  • Can you actually develop him? One copy is not five red stars. Full ascension requires 450 fragments beyond the initial recruit—the equivalent of 15 additional copies under the standard conversion model. If you cannot realistically obtain those fragments, his ceiling is irrelevant.
  • Does your pairing work? Test in the General Simulation. Grayed-out skills ruin theoretical builds.
  • Does he improve your existing march? If you already have a recent mounted main with strong equipment and ascension, the improvement must justify the fragments, Blood of Ares, Runestones, Gems, and rebuilding costs.

Constantine XI is worth building if you can finish him and pair him correctly. He is not worth building simply because his maximum numbers look impressive. A finished, compatible build wins battles. An unfinished collection of theoretical buffs does not.

Pair first. Invest second. That is the only rule that matters. If you plan to build Constantine XI  or prepare another Siege march, you can use Evony Pink Gems top up on LDShop to prepare resources for your next upgrade.
