Foundation: Galactic Frontier puts you in command of a spaceship crew in a fallen Galactic Empire — and the Champions you recruit will determine whether you survive out there or get picked apart by pirates and rival factions. Every Champion covers both space and ground combat, belongs to one of three damage types (Ion, Beam, or Kinetic), and brings a mix of actives, passives, and an ultimate ability. Picking the right ones early makes a measurable difference.
This tier list covers all current Champions ranked by overall performance, combat flexibility, and how well they hold up as you progress deeper into the game.
How We Ranked These Champions
Champions in Foundation: Galactic Frontier are divided by damage type — Ion, Beam, and Kinetic — and each one performs differently depending on your flagship build. A hero ranked highly in one archetype may be a poor fit in a different formation. We've weighted rankings based on:
- Space combat output — active skills, passives that buff flagship/craft ATK
- Ground combat utility — tactical abilities, sustained damage, and crowd control
- Team synergy — formation-wide buffs, healing, and debuffs
- Scaling — how much value they provide at higher investment levels
Limited-time Champions (like Killer Bee) are noted where relevant. They may outperform some permanent picks but aren't always available.

SSS Tier — The Best Champions in the Game
These are the Champions worth building around. Whether you're tackling PvE content or competing in PvP, SSS-tier picks carry hard and stay relevant through late game.
Ajita (Ion)

Ajita is the best support in the game and genuinely one of the most impactful Champions overall. In ground combat, her Deadly Trap! passive triggers on every fourth normal attack, dealing bonus damage and refunding energy — which keeps her skills cycling faster than most. Her Surge! tactical ability fires an explosive round that deals burst damage followed by a secondary detonation, making her surprisingly punchy for a support-primary unit.
Where she truly shines is in space combat. Her Party Time! passive activates after each active skill use, briefly reducing counterattack damage for the entire formation. Her One After Another passive boosts ATK for Ion Flagships and their Combat Craft. Her active skill, Warp Up!, restores formation HP based on a percentage of total formation ATK — meaning the stronger your team, the more she heals. On top of all that, her Flow State ultimate cuts incoming Champion ability damage by 10% formation-wide.
In short: she heals, buffs, reduces damage taken, and accelerates your energy economy. Run her in any Ion build.
Zora Domini (Kinetic)

The top Kinetic DPS and a strong pick for any player running a Kinetic Flagship. In ground combat, Zora's Power Up passive enhances normal attacks with penetration stacks, and her Vortex of Order tactical ability pulls enemies together before detonating for heavy INT-based damage — great for clearing grouped targets.
Her normal attack chain goes four hits, each firing four bullets with a Knockback effect. In space, her Mighty Grip passive raises INT for Kinetic Flagships and Combat Craft in formation, while Vengeful Gaze amplifies missile damage. Her active skill Unyielding Decree launches eight Thermal Swarmer Missiles in a wide spread for massive area damage. And her ultimate, Bitter Revenge, increases ability damage for every Champion in formation by 10%.
She's a reliable carry across both combat modes and benefits significantly from investment — worth prioritizing early if you're going the Kinetic route.
Evan Rogers (Beam)

Evan Rogers leads the Beam archetype and is particularly effective in long fights where his stacking mechanics pay off. His Glacial Hunt passive boosts ATK after each ultimate use, rewarding cycles. His Killing Machine tactical ability is the standout: it activates Nano Armor and converts his normal attack into four powerful melee strikes, dealing significant ATK-based damage per hit.
In space combat, Expert Proficiency raises Beam Flagship and Combat Craft ATK passively. His Scheming Attack passive increases laser damage per shot from his active skill. That active — Hunting Time — fires two High-Energy Lasers for several seconds, each ticking damage every 0.2 seconds based on formation ATK. His Desire to Kill ultimate boosts all Champions' ability damage in formation by 10%.
The only caveat: he's a limited Champion, so you'll need to catch his rotation. For players spending, he's a priority pick for Beam lineups.
Lily (Ion)

Lily rounds out the SSS tier as a strong Ion DPS. She brings solid damage output and scales well with investment, making her a reliable damage-dealer alongside Ajita in an Ion-focused formation.
S Tier — Strong and Worth Building
S-tier Champions are effective and carry you through most content. They may need the right team setup to reach their full potential, but that's a reasonable tradeoff for what they offer.
Jodie Béart (Ion)

Jodie is the go-to Ion support for extended fights. Her kit is built around sustained utility — particularly useful in long PvP battles where healing consistency matters more than burst. She pairs naturally with Ajita, covering stamina where Ajita covers burst mitigation.
Aliya (Ion) and Doug Rockwell (Beam)

Both fill strong support roles in their respective archetypes. Aliya is a solid pick for precision-oriented Beam builds, while Doug Rockwell provides reliable formation support. Neither is as flexible as Ajita, but they're genuine upgrades over B-tier picks.

Eva von Trier (Kinetic)

Eva brings a damage-plus-debuff kit — she deals decent DPS while lowering enemy DEF, which benefits your whole formation's damage output. Particularly useful in tougher PvE encounters and targeted boss content.
A Tier — Situationally Effective
A-tier Champions are solid but benefit more from specific setups. Cocoon works well as a hybrid tank-support in Ion teams. Kama Moai is a reliable Kinetic DPS if you don't have Zora yet. Lucius Pullo can hold his own in early-mid Beam lineups.

B Tier — Use Early, Replace Soon
These Champions are acceptable as placeholders when you're starting out, but don't build around them long-term.
Lani Verita (Ion) is a basic support that does the job early on, but Cocoon and Doug Rockwell outclass her once available. Riian Dessos (Kinetic) clears weak enemy waves but struggles against boss-tier targets. Phade (Ion) and Klara (Beam) are similarly functional in the first few hours of play but fade quickly.
Tips for Building Your Formation
Your damage type should drive your team composition. Pick a flagship type — Ion, Beam, or Kinetic — and stack Champions that share that affinity to maximize the formation bonuses passives provide.
For beginners, the Ion path tends to be the most forgiving early on, with Ajita's healing covering mistakes in positioning and ability timing. Kinetic with Zora is a strong DPS-forward choice once you have a feel for space combat mechanics. Beam with Evan Rogers pays off most for players willing to invest in a limited Champion.
Always check whether a Champion is limited before committing resources. Permanent roster picks like Ajita and Zora give you more reliable return on investment.
FAQ
Is Ajita good for F2P players?
Yes. She's a permanent Champion and one of the most impactful picks regardless of spending. Her healing and formation buffs hold up through late game, so investing in her early won't go to waste.
Should I reroll for a specific Champion at the start?
If you can land Ajita, Zora Domini, or Evan Rogers in your initial pulls, you're in a strong position. Don't hold out for all three — one solid carry or support is enough to get rolling.
What's the best team if I have Ajita and Zora?
They're different damage types, so you'd need to choose which flagship to run. Zora is ideal on a Kinetic Flagship. Ajita fits an Ion Flagship. You can still use both Champions, but they'll each contribute more to their respective formation types. Consider running them in separate flagship setups as you expand.
How often does Killer Bee return?
Limited Champions rotate on a schedule, but FunPlus hasn't published a fixed cadence publicly. Keep an eye on in-game banners and official announcements to catch her next availability.
Can B-tier Champions carry you through early game?
Absolutely. Lani Verita and Riian Dessos are fine when you're first getting started. Just don't sink rare upgrade materials into them — save those for the Champions you plan to use long-term.
