Remember when the developers said calling Genshin Impact "just an open-world game" was selling it short? With the upcoming TPS update introducing brand-new gameplay mechanics, a fresh take on the Traveler, and an entirely new TPS mode, Teyvat is starting to feel like more than just "walk around and open chests."
In this TPS Traveler build guide, we'll cover everything you need to know before jumping into the update, including the Traveler's kit, ascension and talent materials, best weapons, artifact sets, recommended team comps, constellations, and our early breakdown and speculation on how the new TPS mode is expected to work based on the official preview.
TPS Traveler Overview

TPS Traveler is a Cryo Sword character whose gameplay revolves around building Frostglow stacks with her Elemental Skill before unleashing a powerful Elemental Burst for maximum damage. Her kit combines consistent off-field Cryo application through the Frostpierce Star with on-field Normal Attack infusion, allowing her to function as both a sustained DPS and a burst-focused damage dealer. She also introduces the new Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Glimmer mechanics, which enhance Cryo-based reactions and provide valuable Elemental Mastery support for the entire team. Whether played as an on-field carry or a Cryo enabler, TPS Traveler rewards maintaining Frostglow stacks and timing her Burst for the highest possible damage output.
TPS Traveler's Kit
Normal Attack: Foreign Frostglint
Performs up to 5 rapid strikes.
Charged Attack
Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to unleash 2 rapid sword strikes.
Plunging Attack
Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.
Elemental Skill: Pierce of the Ice Fog
Stabs at the opponent with the Traveler's weapon, which releases an ice-cold fog. This deals Cryo DMG to opponents up ahead and forms a Frostpierce Star next to the Traveler.
Frostpierce Star
· Follows your party members around the field and periodically fires ice crystals at nearby opponents, dealing Cryo DMG.
Radiance: Stellar-Conduct: The Frostpierce Star will no longer fire ice crystals at opponents at intervals but will instead fire an ice crystal at opponents in a coordinated attack when the Traveler hits an opponent with a Normal Attack, Charged Attack, or Plunging Attack.
· When an opponent is hit with an ice crystal, the Traveler gains 1 stack of Frostglow (max 8 stacks).
· When not in combat, Frostglow expires after 30s.
Elemental Burst: Frostbound Javelin
Generates ice javelins with the power of Cryo, then directs them at the enemy to deal multiple instances of Cryo DMG.
When cast, the Traveler consumes all existing stacks of Frostglow, which in turn increases the DMG dealt by this Elemental Burst. When 8 stacks of Frostglow are consumed, the number of DMG instances caused by the javelins is also increased.
Radiance: Stellar Glimmer: DMG from the current Elemental Burst is changed to Cryo DMG of the corresponding Stellar Glimmer reaction type.
Frostglow
The following special effect is granted when an ice crystal from a Frostpierce Star generated by the Traveler hits an opponent, or when the Traveler unleashes a Charged Attack: Freezing Ice after unlocking the Talent Deep Ice From Afar. Max 8 stacks.
Unleashing the Elemental Burst Frostbound Javelin consumes all of the Traveler's Frostglow stacks to increase the DMG dealt by the current Elemental Burst. If 8 stacks are consumed, the number of strikes in the Elemental Burst is also increased.
Passive Talents
1.Ever-Keen Frost
Radiance: Stellar-Conduct: When a Frostpierce Star is on the field, DMG from the Traveler's Normal Attacks, Charged Attacks, and Plunging Attacks are converted to Cryo DMG that cannot be overridden by another elemental infusion, and DMG dealt is also increased by 80% of the Traveler's ATK.
2.Lucent Ice
The Traveler's Elemental Mastery is increased by 8% of their ATK. Up to 160 Elemental Mastery can be gained in this way.
3.Illusory Frostmirror
The Traveler will enter the Radiance: Stellar-Conduct or Radiance: Stellar Glimmer state for 8s when they are inside a Polestar Field or trigger a Stellar Swirl reaction respectively.
When a party member triggers a Superconduct or Cryo Swirl reaction, it becomes a Stellar-Conduct or Stellar Swirl reaction instead, and the Base DMG of said reaction is also increased by 0.35% for every 100 points of the Traveler's ATK. A maximum 7% increase can be obtained in this way.

Genshin Impact TPS Shooter Mode

The new TPS shooter mode appears to be a separate game mode rather than a feature for the open world. It uses an over-the-shoulder camera and focuses on gunplay instead of traditional character combat.
Combat revolves around different weapon types instead of character elements. The preview shows three main weapons: a sniper rifle, a grenade launcher, and throwable grenades. The sniper rifle features a Charge Point system beneath the crosshair. As you fight, Charge Points build up and can be consumed to fire a powerful elemental laser after aiming. Mobility also appears to play a role, with actions like sliding seemingly helping build Charge Points faster while allowing smooth weapon swaps.
Elemental damage comes from your equipped weapon rather than changing your character's element. The grenade launcher can switch between multiple elemental ammo types, including Cryo, Pyro, and Hydro, while grenades shown in the trailer deal Pyro damage. The footage also hints at environmental interactions, such as destroying icy terrain to make enemies fall, adding another layer to combat beyond simply defeating targets.
Movement mechanics are more dynamic than standard Genshin gameplay, featuring slides, vaults, and other traversal actions. The mode also includes headshot bonuses, rewarding precise aiming. Although the preview was brief, it already suggests a faster-paced combat system focused on gunplay, positioning, weapon swapping, and environmental strategy rather than traditional elemental reactions.
All of the information above is based on observations and speculation from the preview trailer. The final gameplay may differ, so please refer to the official release for the actual implementation.
