Punishing Gray Raven Elements & Effects Overview
Punishing Gray Raven Combat and Team building systems have always revolved around using different Elements Constructs in order to make powerful Single Element Teams in order to challenge different enemy bosses that are weak to a specific element.
However, together with the release of Gen 3 Constructs and Leap Skills for older Constructs that enable different Constructs to be able to utilize special Effects, different team options revolving around Effects and bosses that requires specific Effects teams have also been implemented into the game, requiring players to reevaluate how they build their teams for these special bosses.
Therefore, we will go over a general overview of the differences between Elements and Effects in Punishing Gray Raven and explain to players what they need to pay attention to when building Elements-centric teams and Effects-centric teams.
Elements
The main gimmick for team building and combat in Punishing Gray Raven, Elements are special damage designation for every Constructs in the game, denoting what type of damage they deal and what team players should put the different Constructs in. Every boss in the game has a weakness to specific elements, making it extremely recommended that players create mono element teams to deal with specific bosses and help boost the overall elemental damage of each element.
There are 6 different elements in the game, each with their own effects, strengths and weaknesses: Physical, Fire, Ice, Lightning, Dark, Nihil. Among them, Physical Damage is calculated dependent on a separate Physical Damage Formula that takes into account Crit Chance and Crit Damage of the Constructs, while other Elements are calculated based on the Elemental Damage Formula that results in damage that can not crit.
Generally speaking, 1 Construct will mainly deal 1 type of Elemental Damage only even if their Element section is listed as mixed (e.g. 70% Fire 30% Dark). Therefore, the majority of newer Constructs are generally considered Single Element Constructs and are often paired up together in Mono Element teams to deal with different bosses with different elemental weaknesses.
Effects (Affix)
Introduced into the game with the release of Gen 3 Constructs such as Lucia:Pyroath, Effects (also known as Affix) are special modifiers in addition to Elements that help distinguish different Constructs further and separate the old Main DPS options in the game with newer ones. All recent Constructs introduced in Punishing Gray Raven are assigned an effect dependent on their kit, with old Constructs that are still relevant to the meta getting special Leap Skills that grants them Effects to help them be in the same team as newer Constructs. If the old Construct is already far out of meta, they won’t receive any Leap Skills nor any Effects and will be considered less desirable to use in the current game meta.
Effects works separately to Element in that only 1 Effect can be activated in a team, even when all 3 Constructs in the team have different Effects. And unlike Elements where the Constructs’ damage is mostly automatically converted into the designated Elemental Damage, Effects must be activated during combat by executing special combos with the Construct with the Effect to activate them. Upon activating Effects, the Constructs’ Elemental Damage will be temporarily changed into the Effects’ Element, making it so that certain Constructs can deal 2 Elemental Damage Types in a fight.
The Effects Currently In The Game Includes:
- Ignition: Convert the Constructs’ Elemental Damage to Fire and make enemies go into the Combustible State, taking increased Ignition damage and taking periodic Ignition damage.
- Plasma Beam: Creates a Lightning Zone surrounding the Construct that deals periodic Lightning Damage to enemies, disrupting their movements and periodically deal damage to enemies in the Zone.
- Glaciation: Creates a Low Temperature Zone surrounding the constructs, the more attacks are dealt during the zone’s existence the longer the zone lasts and the more damage enemies take.
- Ultima Slash: Accumulates Ultima Slash Stacks and unleash powerful Physical Damage to enemies, the higher the stacks, the more damage instances are dealt.
- Dark Flow: Accumulate Dark Flow Value and unleash powerful Dark Flow Elemental Damage Waves when certain thresholds are hit.
- Disruption: Creates Special Disruption fields that reduce enemies’ shield effects, including Nihil Shields.
- Glow: Allows the user to deal Glow Damage to enemies regardless of Elements.

Punishing Gray Raven Effects Teams & How To Use Them
Like mentioned previously, unlike Elemental teams where the team’s damage is automatically decided based on the Elements of the Constructs in the team, Effects or Affixes Teams relies on special effects that need to be triggered during combat by utilizing different Constructs Combos, with each Affixes allowing the team to do different effects when they are activated.
Ignition Team
|
|
|
Dante |
Nanami: Startrail |
Vera: Geiravor |
Main DPS |
Ignition Enabler |
Support |
The Ignition team focuses on inflicting as much Ignition stacks on enemies with different Constructs Combos, dealing Ignition damage to enemies in the process. This can be done with Nanami: Startrail’s fast attacking combo or Dante’s normal combo, allowing them to inflict Ignition stacks on enemies extremely quickly. Upon enemies having enough Ignition stacks, players can use Dante’s Ultimate to Ignite the enemies’ stacks, dealing extremely high Ignition damage to enemies and clearing the Ignition stacks.
Plasma Beam Team
|
|
|
Lucia: Pyroath |
Lilith: Daemonissa |
Karenina: Scire |
Main DPS |
Plasma Beam Enabler/ Support |
QTE Support |
Unlike the Ignition team that focuses on inflicting enemies with as much Ignition debuff stacks as possible before Igniting them, The Plasma Beam team is a bit more tricky to play. In order to start converting characters’ kit to Plasma Beam kits, players will need to fill up the Plasma Beam gauge with either Karenina: Scire’s combo or Lilith: Daemonissa’s combo and trigger the Plasma Beam effect. During the Plasma Beam Effect Duration, Lucia: Pyroath’s skill kit will be converted to her Plasma Beam kit, allowing her to do Plasma Beam combo against the enemies.
Please note that the timing window for Plasma team is very strict with Plasma Beam effect not lasting very long, so players will have to alternate in order to keep the Plasma Beam effect up.
Glaciation Team
|
|
|
Selena: Pianissimo |
Wanshi: Lucid Dreamer’ |
Alisa: Echo |
Main DPS |
Glaciation Enabler/ Support |
Support |
The Glaciation team is a generally very simple team to play, as the Glaciation effect is generally built into the Constructs’ normal damaging combos, making it easier to trigger than most other effects. To trigger Glaciation, simply do Wanshi: Lucid Dreamer’s damaging combo two times, allowing him to trigger Glaciation. Once Glaciation is triggered, players simply need to constantly attack enemies with attacks in order to maintain the Glaciation and prolong the effect, allowing the team to deal more damage the longer the Glaciation effect is active.
Ultima Slash Team
|
|
|
Vergil |
Hanying: Solacetune |
Alisa: Echo |
Main DPS |
Ultima Slash Enabler/ Support |
Support |
The Ultima Slash team is all about stacking as much Ultima Slash stacks as possible by utilizing Hanying: Solacetune Ultima Slash combo to quickly stacks as much Ultima Slash effects as possible before switching to Vergil so that he can take advantage of the high Ultima Slash Stacks to deal immense amount of Ultima Slash damage effects in his Devil Trigger Form.
Dark Flow Team
|
|
|
Lucia: Crimson Weave |
Vera: Geiravor |
Nanami: Startrail |
Main DPS |
Dark Flow Enabler/ Support |
Support |
The Dark Flow team functions somewhat similarly to the Plasma Beam team, requiring players to fill up the Dark Flow gauge quickly before the characters with Dark Flow can utilize their special Dark Flow skill kits. The Dark Flow effect can be triggered easily with Vera:Geravoir Dark Flow Combo, allowing her to fill the gauge as quickly as possible before allowing players to switch to Lucia: Crimson Weave to make use of her Dark Flow Skill Effects.
Please note that since there’s only 2 Constructs with the Dark Flow Effect currently, players should slot in a general Amplifier Construct to boost the overall damage output of the team.
Disruption Team
|
|
|
Luna: Oblivion |
Ishmael: Parhelion |
Lilith: Daemonissa |
Main DPS |
Disruption Enabler/ Support |
Support |
Disruption is a special Effect that can only be triggered by Constructs of Nihil Element, with the purposeful intent of helping Nihil Constructs to quickly reduce enemies’ special Nihil shields. When used normally, Disruption is an effect that can be triggered easily with Ishmael: Parhelion through her normal attacking combos, allowing the team to reduce the enemies’ shield and Nihil shield effects massively before switching to Luna: Oblivion to deal Nihil damage to enemies.
A Disruption team functions similarly to a Nihil Damage team, therefore, players should use the Nihil team against enemies weak to Disruption Effects.
Glow Team
|
|
|
Bianca: Crepuscule |
Karenina: Scire |
Lilith: Daemonissa |
Main DPS/ Glow Enabler |
QTE Support |
Support |
As of writing, only 1 Construct in the game have access to the special Glow Effect, which essentially serves as a 7th Element, allowing Bianca: Crepuscule to become a special construct that can deal special effect damage to enemies weak to Glow even when she is a Dark Elemental Construct. To help aid her damage output, it is highly recommended to bring Dark teammates with her even when she uses her Glow special Effect form.
