Abyss is the 11th standard map in Valorant that is set in a subterranean base beneath Norway’s Jan Mayen island. The Key trait of this Map is that it has no boundaries, so if you are not paying attention to the arena while rotating, flanking, or pushing through, you might fall to your death. Rising to the top of the leaderboards and dominating in the lobby is only possible if you have mastered the terrain.
Adapting to this Map is not easy due to its tight corners, ambushable lanes, breakable doors, and many more challenges. Therefore, to know your way around, Let's follow LDShop to take you through an in-depth breakdown of the map’s layout and provide you with a perfect battle plan to crush both casual and ranked matches.

Abyss Map Overview
The feature of having no solid boundaries is quite next-gen, providing a lot of new ways to form ambushing tactics and perform stealth rotation, only if you are good with character movement. This singular feature, along with the presence of Jump shortcuts, Death ropes, 120 HP destructible doors, ledges, makes Abyss a radically different experience from traditional Valorant maps. It forces players to think out of the box and take up unconventional routes that bring out a whole new approach to defending your base as well as planting your spikes.
The entire Combat Zone follows a three-lane setup. One Lane per base or plant site, with the additional mid lane connecting the two sites with their respective narrow pathways and shortcuts.
A Site: A relatively narrow site with tight entry points from the A-Main site, as well as a mid-connection via Vent. Having control over the A tower is crucial, as it provides an advantageous high ground.
B site: More open than A, B has entry points from the B-Main site, Mid Danger site, and Drop Room site. Tower B can be accessed by a vertical rope, making it a strong defensive position.
Mid: The central part of the map that offers multiple pathways and a risky Mid Drop with no railings. Mid controls the flow towards both A and B, and the Hot zones where usual conflicts are seen are the Bridge, Vent, and Pillar.
Abyss Callouts
- A Tower: A vantage point situated above A site for players to look out for enemies and hold down to prevent pushes, as well as crucial to gain control while attacking.
- Ascender: A type of Rope or Ladder that leads players directly to the A Tower.
- A Back Site: A Floating area that can be used as a flanking Route that needs to be checked while defending the site, as well as provides an edge while being used for attacking.
- A Bridge: A specific pathway as a bridge to the A site that connects the main area to a higher ground called “Heaven” or “A Heaven”.
- A Main: A single linear path leading directly onto the A site, with a narrow choke point at its entrance.
- B Tower: A raised area used to look over the B site that can be attacked via the stairs, with angles to consider from the rafters and below.
- A/B link: A specific pathway that connects the A and B sites with their respective Mid Lanes and allows navigation to the rest of the map.
- B Main: A path leading directly to the plant site from the spawn point.
- B Under: Refers to a place under the bridge that offers a tactical advantage to the players who can utilize it effectively.
- B Danger: A secret ledge located behind the plant site that offers a unique angle of attack as well as a shortcut in navigation.
- B Nest: A specific area on the B site, often providing ways to drop down to a lower level and a rope leading to mid.
- Mid Library: A room connecting the mid lane to the B site and the B main, and has a few bookshelves that can be used as a cover.
- Mid Catwalks: An elevated path in the mid-section that provides a quick way to traverse across the middle of the map, utilizing several doors and ascenders.
- Vents: Hideout areas that lead to the mid lane from the A side and act as a shortcut.
Both Entrances to the vents are blocked off by doors, with each door withstanding damage up to a maximum of 120 HP. These doors need to be broken down to pass through the vents by means of bullets or splash damage items. The doors indicate color according to their health, that is, blue at 100%, yellow in the midrange, and red when critically low. Once anybody destroys a door, the pathway remains open for the remaining phase of the particular round. Watch your back while trying to break open a door, as enemies are sneaky and can use the angles to shoot as soon as the door falls.
Best Agent Strategies
- Jett: Her dash and updraft gives her a huge advantage in a fight, essentially while falling back and reaching high ground. After planting the spike, you can updraft to a higher position that will make it harder for enemies to shoot you.
- Omen: His Shrouded Step lets him teleport to unexpected places, confusing the enemies while in a battle. On the B site, smoke an edge of the map, and when enemies try to find you in the smoke, jump off and teleport back to the land. You can also do this while battling 1 on 1, suddenly teleporting to a higher ground, and taking your enemies from the back.
- Fade: Fade’s Prowler is very useful for scouting for hidden enemies, as his wolf can roam over cliff edges, revealing certain hideouts or camps. Send the wolf to scout over distances without exposing yourself.
- Cypher: Cypher’s trapwires are very useful to catch enemies and eliminate them. Place the trapwires across the cliff edges so that when enemies attempt to jump, they get caught and fall off.
- Sage: Sage can create one-way walls, which are very effective at locking down enemies in various areas. Use these barriers to cut off enemies in an ally of stop from infiltrating your base.
Map Mechanics and Tactics
As previously discussed, unlike other maps, this one has some vertical action going on in it. Do Valorant Points top up and use accessories like Ropes, Ascenders, and use high ground to your advantage, along with your agent's abilities to fool the enemies and track them down one by one. The best platform to make the top-up is LDShop, it lets players top up for less and it is a great way to save money.
While you are attacking, you can use strategies where your team works in splits. One team goes through the vents and flanks the enemies, while the other can safely plant the spike on the other site, once the enemies are distracted.
Use the abilities of your agents like Jett’s updraft and Sentinel’s shock bolts and aftershock to get through the defenses and traps.
Defending on Abyss is a hard task. Make use of Cypher’s trapwires to set sneaky traps along with Sage’s one-way walls to guide enemies into your required territory and then slam them. Make use of Omen’s ability to eliminate enemies by making them fall off the map.
Conclusion
The Valorant Abyss map’s lack of an invisible border allows for creative gameplay rather than intense fights. Use your agent's abilities and make room for surprises to catch your enemies off guard. Master jumping and crouching, along with jiggle peeking while scouting an area or holding a site. Your movement should be precise to avoid falling off steep edges and low-level platforms. Use the mini-map to spot enemies, and don’t do anything stupid when you are low on health.
