Connecting the Nexus World: Adventure Begins and Testing Starts
In Honkai: Nexus Anima, the “Nexus” stands for the connection between opposite ideas—like life and death or light and darkness. After a major event breaks the balance of these concepts, their energy turns into living beings called Anima. As a player, you take on the role of a traveler who can move between worlds, trying to escape a troubled past. Your mission is to connect with the Anima by completing tasks and fighting alongside them. By unlocking and mixing their skills, you become stronger in battle and better at traveling through the game’s open world.
The company also introduced the first closed test—called the Nexus Bond Test—which is open for sign-up on the game’s official website until September 12, 2025. This test will be available on PC and iOS.
A Growing Roster: Meet the Anima and Animasters
The game also includes various characters divided into three groups: the Sovereigns (who held power in the old world), the Novarchs (rulers in the new world), and Others (those without a clear role). Human characters—called Animasters—are not used in battle. Instead, they appear in the story and help you connect with the Anima. The poster girl of the game is named Nanafey. Other characters include familiar faces like Kiana, from Honkai Impact 3rd,who is traveling across worlds to restore balance. And Blade, from Honkai: Star Rail,a powerful ruler in the new world called “Supreme Peak.” They will appear under the Others and Novarch categories, respectively.
Most of the 14 Animasters shown are original characters designed specifically for this game.
66 different Anima have been confirmed, each with unique names, types, and traits. So far, 32 Anima have been revealed in detail. Many of them are inspired by food and everyday items, giving them a fun and friendly look. With its fresh take on creature collection, strategy battles, and open exploration, Honkai: Nexus Anima is shaping up to be a unique experience unlike anything else the studio has made before.

What the Game Really Feels Like—New Info from the Trailer
The recently released gameplay video introduced two key parts of the game: exploring towns and engaging in auto-chess battles. The Anima are central to both—you use them to fly, glide, ride, and surf through the environment, and you also place them like chess pieces in turn-based tactical fights.
The battle system uses “Aspects” (which work like elements) and “Traits” (similar to character classes), allowing players to mix and match Anima to form powerful teams. The game also includes in-match items and buffs to keep battles interesting and unpredictable.
Besides combat, Anima can join fun activities like running races, water gun fights, and box-breaking mini-games. These social and lighthearted features suggest that the game may focus on community and player-created content in the future.
HoYoverse also added a special feature—a character creator—which is their first time offering this in a game. This allows players to customize their own in-game avatar.
Conclusion
Honkai: Nexus Anima represents a bold new direction for HoYoverse, moving beyond their traditional formula to explore a charming world of creature collection, auto-chess strategy, and lighthearted exploration. With its appealing Anima designs, fresh gameplay mix, and the inclusion of beloved characters like Kiana and Blade, the game is poised to offer a unique experience for both longtime fans and new players alike.
