If you're still getting wrecked by the Virus System in Last Asylum, welcome to the club. Even weeks into the Era of Revival season, alliance chats are still full of people wondering why their troops deal negative damage or why their hospitals keep overflowing after a routine fight.
The whole infection and resistance mechanic is pretty annoying, but once you figure out how the math works, it's pretty easy to play around. Here’s a breakdown of how virus stacks actually work and how to keep your damage maxed out.
Virus Stacks & Debuffs
Whenever your squads roll out on the world map to clash with infected mobs, Elite Blights, or Corruptors, they don't come back clean. They haul biological contamination back to your base. This builds up your Virus Stacks, which tick up from 0 all the way to a maximum cap of 100 stacks.
|
Virus Stacks |
Debuff Name |
Military & Base Penalty Impact |
|
1+ Stacks |
Hospital Overflow |
Every 200–300s, 1 soldier gets critically injured and sent straight to the hospital passively. |
|
20+ Stacks |
Morale Hit |
Suffer a flat 20% damage reduction on all incoming combat calculations. |
|
40+ Stacks |
Lethal Strain |
Enemy lethality jumps by 10%, turning wounded troops into outright casualties. |
|
60+ Stacks |
Severe Outbreak |
New marches automatically spawn with 15% extra virus stacks pre-applied. |
|
80+ Stacks |
Plague Spreader |
10% chance to infect attackers and pass stacks to them during defense/attack base wipes. |
|
100 Stacks |
Max Cap Ceiling |
Triggers ALL penalties simultaneously at max severity; base is effectively paralyzed. |
Resistance & Damage Penalties
Basically, the Virus is the poison, and Resistance is your antidote. Every high-tier monster and Elite Blight on the map has a rigid RES Required threshold listed right next to its recommended combat power. If your current Resistance falls below the target mob's requirement, the game applies an aggressive Insufficient RES penalty:

- Damage Reduction Penalty: Falling short on Resistance strips away your squad's DPS exponentially. Depending on how far behind the requirement you are, your outgoing damage can be slashed by anywhere from 30% all the way up to a staggering 99.8%.
- Damage Taken Multiplier: At the same time, your troops take massive extra incoming damage, causing your squads to drop before your skill cooldowns even finish cycling.
How to Upgrade Resistance
To bypass these artificial progression walls, you need to farm RES EXP aggressively from day one. Here is the exact priority list for leveling your stats:
- Research Institute (Biotech Lab): Treat this as your primary progression gate. Keep this building queued for upgrades constantly to raise your base baseline stats.
- Specialty Hall Passive Production: Upgrade your Specialty Hall early on. This scales up your passive hourly RES EXP output so you’re constantly generating gains even while AFK.
- Breach Inspiration: When choosing your seasonal Specialty tree via the Specialty Hall, branch into the Handyman path. Your absolute mandatory focus here is maxing out the Breach Inspiration Specialty Skill. At 3/3 points, it grants a massive 30% bonus Specialty EXP whenever you kill monsters on the map.

- Hunting Elite Blights (First Kills Only): Map monsters dropping rewards can be deceptive. Standard resource mobs only award Lord's Specialty EXP. To get actual RES EXP, you must hit Elite Blights. Make sure to claim the First Kill reward on every higher-tier Elite Blight you can reach.
- Era Weekly Pass: If you want to jumpstart your build, the Era Weekly Pass drops a flat +250 RES stat bump, +5% march speed, and 20,000 Lord's Specialty EXP.
Brute-Forcing, Free Comps & Cure Tactics
If you want to stay at the top of your alliance leaderboard, you don't always need to wait until your Resistance perfectly matches the recommended map numbers. Here are a few tricks min-maxers are using right now:
- Brute-Forcing the Resistance Gap: If a high-level Elite Blight shows a 30% damage penalty warning, don't automatically back off. If your main march consists of maxed-out, high-tier UR heroes, your raw combat stats can often swallow that 30% reduction penalty. You will take higher hospital casualties, but securing that First Kill RES EXP early will accelerate your progression for the rest of the week.

- Triple-Hero Damage Trick: Fighting monsters without top-tier paywalled heroes? Open your Era Bonus menu and assemble a budget monster-slaying squad straight out of the tavern. Put Claire, Cynthia, and Annie into the same march. All three are free tavern unlocks, and each carries a passive 5% damage increase against monsters. Running all three gives you an instant, free 15% bonus DPS to offset resistance damage penalties. Pair them up with sturdy tanks like Duskll, Bryant, or Lewis up front to absorb the impact.

- Forced Infection (Corruptors & Bosses): Watch out for Corruptors and World Bosses on the map. These special units feature a purple +1 forced infection rule. Even if your Resistance stat completely exceeds the recommended requirement, attacking these units will forcibly apply virus stacks directly to your base.
- Alliance Syringe Spam (Disinfection): Never let your base sit near 100 stacks overnight. Alliance members can send scouts to hit the green syringe icon over your base, using Immune Protein to instantly wipe out your stacks. Plus, helping alliance mates clear their infection gives you seasonal chest progression rewards (up to 150 stacks cured, 500 stacks accumulated, and 1,400 stacks spread for max chest rewards).
Conclusion
With these tricks in your pocket, you’ll easily handle anything the Virus System throws at you this season. Now go ping your alliance chat, set your building queues, and stop letting those virus stacks rot your base. If you're planning to grab those Era Weekly Pass or burn speedups to rush your Research Institute, do yourself a favor and get your top-ups through LDshop. See you guys on the map!
