Squad Power comes from stacking many systems together, not just leveling heroes.

To increase your squad power efficiently, you need to optimize: Heroes, Gear, Skills, Drones, Tech research, Buildings, Decorations and Tactic cards.

Yes… the game basically added power boosts everywhere. But don’t worry — we’ll break it down step by step.

Best Heroes to Focus On

The first rule of squad power:

Gold heroes > Everything else.

Blue and purple heroes exist mainly to help early game players… but long-term, you’ll want UR (gold) heroes.

Heroes in Last War usually fall into three roles.

Hero Type

Role in Squad

Typical Stats

Recommended Position

Shield Heroes (Frontline Tanks)

Absorb enemy damage and protect the team

High HP, High Defense, Lower Attack

Front Row

DPS Heroes (Damage Dealers)

Deal the majority of the squad’s damage

High Attack, Lower HP, Lower Defense

Backline

Support Heroes

Provide buffs and utility to strengthen the team

Usually balanced stats, not damage-focused

Backline / Midline

Gear Priority

Not all gear upgrades are equal. The side you upgrade depends on the hero’s role.

Gear Priority

Hero Type

Gear Upgrade Priority

Key Stats Increased

Benefit / Reasoning

DPS Heroes

Left-side gear first

Attack, Crit Rate, Crit Damage

More damage output and faster battles

Tank Heroes

Right-side gear first

Damage Reduction, Defense, HP

Frontline survives longer, prevents team collapse

Support Heroes

Balanced gear

Varies, often Radar and Chip

Improves survivability so they can keep buffing the team

Skill Upgrade Priority

Skills are extremely important but expensive. The best approach is to upgrade them in balanced tiers.

Level skills like this:

10 → 10 → 10 then 20 → 20 → 20

This prevents one skill from being overleveled while the others lag behind.

General priority:

Hero Type

Gear Upgrade Order

Tank Heroes

1. Top Right2. Bottom Left3. Top Left

DPS Heroes

1. Top Right2. Top Left3. Bottom Left

Support Heroes

1. Bottom Left2. Top Right3. Top Left

Drone Upgrades

Drone Upgrades

The Drone system is one of the biggest squad power boosts in the game.

Your drone provides global bonuses to Attack, Defense, and HP, meaning every hero in your squad benefits from it.

The downside? Drone upgrades require a lot of materials.

So whenever you get drone parts or XP, upgrade it immediately. Future-you will thank you.

Drone Chips

Drone Chips

Drone chips provide powerful bonuses — but only for the correct troop type.

Examples:

Tank squad → Tank chips
Helicopter squad → Aircraft chips
Missile squad → Missile chips

If you mix chip types, the bonuses won’t apply correctly.

Which is basically the game’s way of saying:

“Nice upgrade. Too bad it does nothing.”

Tech Tree Priorities

Tech research is one of the biggest power systems in the game.

The most important tech branch is: Special Forces

Because it unlocks T10 troops. And T10 units are dramatically stronger than lower-tier troops.

Best Tech Upgrade Priority

Whenever possible, upgrade stats in this order: Attack> Health> Defense

Damage is usually the most impactful stat in combat.

Buildings That Boost Squad Power

Three buildings directly increase hero squad power:

Tank Center,Helicopter Center and Missile Center.

Upgrading these buildings increases: March size, Hero stats and Squad strength.

Your main squad building should be upgraded first, but eventually you’ll want all three leveled up. More troops = more power.

Decorations(The Most Overlooked Power Boost)

Decorations(The Most Overlooked Power Boost)

Decorations look cosmetic, but some provide extremely powerful bonuses.

Damage Reduction (Top Tier)

Reduces incoming damage.

Think of it as making your opponent weaker.

Skill Damage / March Size

Both significantly increase combat performance.

Crit Damage

Very strong, but depends on crit rate.

Basic Hero Stats

Attack / defense / HP boosts are useful but less impactful.

For upgrades:

Try to bring decor items to Level 3 first, then prioritize the strongest ones.

Best Squad Formation

Standard squad formation looks like this.

Best Squad Formation

Frontline

Tank

Tank

Backline

DPS

DPS

Support

This setup works because tanks absorb damage while damage dealers stay protected.

PvE vs PvP Squad Strategy

Different content requires different squad setups.

PvE (Zombies / Bosses)

Focus on:

  • Maximum damage
  • Skill damage bonuses
  • Buff stacking

Boss fights are basically DPS checks.

PvP (Player Battles)

Focus on:

  • Damage reduction
  • Balanced defense
  • Meta squads

PvP is where optimization really matters.

Best Tactic Cards

Tactic cards provide additional bonuses for squads.

Two of the best cards include:

Monster Slayer

Best for PvE.

Provides damage reduction against monsters and boosts PvE performance.

Battle Streak Morale Boost

One of the strongest PvP cards.

Each victory increases:

Attack, Defense and HP

Meaning the longer your attack streak lasts, the stronger your squad becomes.

Final Thoughts

Increasing squad power in Last War isn’t about one upgrade—it’s about stacking small advantages: strong heroes, gear, skill upgrades, drones, tech, buildings, decor, and tactic cards. When they all work together, your power skyrockets.
