Altars are the central strategic objective of Season 6's Shadow Rainforest. Sitting in the heart of the map inside Great River Clan territory, these five capturable structures each unlock a powerful Alliance Skill — and with a hard cap of 3 Altars per Alliance and mutually exclusive pairs built into the system, which Altars you go after matters as much as whether you can take them.

Why Do Altars Matter?
Unlike previous seasons where map control revolved around spreading territory outward from your warzone, Altars operate by different rules entirely. You don't need adjacent land to capture them, and — importantly — holding an Altar doesn't grant connected territory either. You can't use an Altar as a stepping stone to capture nearby land. They exist purely as skill-unlocking objectives.
Each Altar corresponds to one Alliance Skill. Capturing it unlocks that skill, which your designated leadership roles can then activate during Faction Clash battles using Alliance Energy. The skills range from defensive city shields and troop summons to explosive area attacks and cooldown resets. Used at the right moment, they can completely change the outcome of battles that raw troop power alone wouldn't decide.
Altar Conquest opens every Tuesday starting from Week 3, with each session lasting exactly one hour. The window is short and competitive — preparation and coordination before it begins is what separates alliances that walk away with their preferred Altars from those that scramble.
The Five Altars and Their Alliance Skills
There are five Altars in the central zone, each tied to a specific Alliance Skill. They don't all become available at once — higher-level Altars open up in later weeks, so your early targets are naturally limited to the first two tiers.

Cobra Barrier applies a durability shield to any city in your faction. Once activated, Alliance members can send planes to charge and further increase that city's durability — making it significantly harder for enemies to destroy. Activated by the Recruiter.
Night Army summons a Mummy Army that attacks all bases within its radius. If those attacks succeed, the targeted bases are blasted away from the area. Similar to the Summon Mummy mechanic players will recognize from a previous season, but now tied to Altar ownership. Activated by the Muse.
Serpent Breath is the offensive centerpiece — a skill comparable to the Warlord Missile that saw heavy use in prior seasons. After activation, all bases in the target area are blasted away and the zone becomes contaminated land. Activated by the Warlord.
Thunder Feathers sends continuous lightning strikes against all enemy faction bases within range, each strike draining their durability. Inspired by the Season 4 Tesla Coil, it applies sustained pressure over time rather than a single burst. Activated by the Butler.
Tranquil Rewind (Treehaven Altar) lets the Alliance Leader instantly reset the cooldown on any skill your Alliance has already captured and used — making it immediately available to fire again. The force-multiplier potential is obvious: resetting Serpent Breath or Night Army mid-fight means you can hit the same area twice in quick succession.
Note: Frog's Gifts does not require any Altar — it's unlocked through Faction Technology from early in the season and grants resource packages to all Alliance members via in-game mail.
Capture Rules
Capturing an Altar is different from taking a regular city. No adjacent land is required — as long as your troops can reach the central area and the Altar isn't in a protected state, you can start a capture attempt. And since Altars don't grant connected territory, there's no secondary benefit to holding them other than the skill itself.
For unowned (Neutral) Altars, multiple alliances can attack simultaneously. The session lasts 1 hour. If the battle ends without anyone reaching 100% progress, ownership goes to whichever alliance accumulated the highest capture percentage. So if your alliance hits 80% and a rival only reaches 20%, the Altar is yours even without hitting the cap.
For already-owned Altars, the rules are stricter: you must push capture progress all the way to 100% to take it. If the 1-hour window closes before you get there, the Altar stays with its existing owner regardless of how much progress you made.
This distinction matters a lot for planning. Going after a Neutral Altar in Week 3 is a race for progress. Going after someone's held Altar later in the season is a full eviction — harder, slower, and requiring sustained commitment for the entire session.
Ownership is settled per-Alliance, not per-faction. Multiple alliances from the same faction can compete for the same Altar, which means internal coordination is just as important as fighting the opposing faction.

The 3-Altar Cap and Mutually Exclusive Pairs
No Alliance can hold more than 3 Altars at once. On top of that, two pairs of Altars are mutually exclusive — your Alliance can only hold one from each pair at a time.
The exclusive pairs are:
- Cobra Altar / Gust Altar — only one at a time (Cobra Barrier vs. Serpent Breath)
- Echo Altar / Feather Altar — only one at a time (Night Army vs. Thunder Feathers)
If your Alliance is capturing both Altars in a pair simultaneously, whichever one reaches 100% first gets claimed — and all troops inside the second Altar are automatically removed. There's no penalty beyond losing the time invested. But the window is only 1 hour, so a failed simultaneous capture attempt is effectively a wasted session on that second target.
An Alliance sitting at the 3-Altar maximum can hold at most one from each exclusive pair, leaving one free slot. The only Altar outside both pairs is Treehaven (Lv. 5), which makes it the natural third pick once you've resolved your pair choices.
Practically, the pairs force a choice between:
- Serpent Breath (aggressive AoE blast) or Cobra Barrier (city defense)
- Thunder Feathers (sustained durability damage) or Night Army (troop summon)
There's no universally correct answer. Which combination fits your Alliance depends on your faction role that week — whether you're holding key cities, pushing offensively, or supporting allies. Build the habit of deciding this before Tuesday arrives, not during the session.
Strategy Tips
Move fast in Week 3. All Altars start Neutral in the first Altar Conquest window, and unowned Altars are decided by highest progress rather than requiring 100%. This is the easiest opportunity your Alliance will have. Have marches queued and ready before the session opens.
Decide your pair picks before Tuesday. Cobra/Gust and Echo/Feather are mutually exclusive — going after both simultaneously wastes troops and time if one reaches 100% first. Agree on your targets in advance so everyone is moving toward the right Altars from the start.
Don't underestimate Cobra Barrier. Applying a durability shield to a contested city before a war day, then letting alliance members charge it further within the 24-hour window, can make that city significantly harder to take down.
Time Serpent Breath for dense base zones. The skill's damage scales with how many enemy bases are in the target area when it fires. A crowded zone during an active Faction Clash fight is when this hits hardest.
Save Tranquil Rewind for the right moment. Treehaven's value depends entirely on the skill it resets. Burning it on a low-impact skill wastes it. Save it for when Serpent Breath or Night Army just fired and the fight is still ongoing — that's when the double-activation matters most.
Assign R4/R5 gift duty explicitly. The Great River Clan Gift only triggers once per capture and requires R4 or R5 to initiate. Leaving it unassigned means it often goes unclaimed. Name someone before Conquest opens.
FAQ
Can alliances from the same faction hold the same Altar?
Ownership is per-Alliance. Two faction allies can compete for the same target. Coordinate through faction leadership to avoid sending two alliances after the same Altar when both could be securing different ones.
When does each Altar tier become available?
Lv. 1 and Lv. 2 open in Week 3. Lv. 3 in Week 4. Lv. 4 in Week 5. Lv. 5 in Week 6. Plan your season-long Altar strategy around these unlock windows.
Does losing an Altar immediately remove the Alliance Skill?
Yes. If an enemy Alliance captures an Altar you held, the corresponding skill is no longer available until you recapture it or take a different Altar.
Is the Tranquil Rewind skill worth a full Altar slot?
For alliances actively using their other skills in Faction Clash, yes — especially once Serpent Breath comes online. The ability to fire a high-impact skill twice in a single battle is difficult to replicate any other way. Its value scales directly with how much you're getting out of the skills it resets.
