Building Tesla in Last War: Survival is all about knowing what he actually does best: back-row pressure, Energy Damage, and Missile-team scaling. He is not the kind of hero you throw into any squad and hope the lightning magically carries. To make Tesla feel strong, you need the right skill priority, proper attacker gear, a stable frontline, and a clear plan for his Exclusive Weapon and Season 6 Awakening.

In this Last War Tesla build guide, we’ll break down his best skills, gear priority, team setup, Exclusive Weapon milestones, and Awakening strategy so you can decide whether Tesla is just a backup DPS for your account — or the Missile carry you actually want to commit to.

Tesla Role Overview

Tesla Role Overview

Tesla’s main job is back-row pressure. His Auto Attack, Lightning Chain, deals Energy Damage with a short 1.35s cooldown, while Electric Grid Lockdown hits 3 back-row enemy units with a much larger Tactics hit on a 10s cooldown. His passive, Electric Power Boost, increases his Energy Damage, and Super Sensing gives him HP, Attack, Defense, and cooldown speed. That means Tesla is not just a one-button burst hero; he wants enough time in battle to cycle skills and keep pressure rolling.

In real fights, this makes him especially valuable against teams where the back row is carrying the damage or support value. He is not supposed to sit in the front and “tank a little.” Let the real frontliners do that. Tesla’s value comes from staying alive long enough to keep shocking the enemy backline until their formation starts falling apart.

Best Tesla Skill Priority

For most players, upgrade Tesla’s skills in this order:

Electric Grid Lockdown

Electric Grid Lockdown first. This is Tesla’s signature skill and the main reason you use him. It targets 3 back-row units and deals huge Energy Damage based on his Attack, so every upgrade here directly improves his best win condition. If you only have enough medals to hard-push one Tesla skill, push this one.

Lightning Chain

Lightning Chain second. Tesla’s auto attack has a short cooldown and deals Energy Damage based on Attack, so it gives him reliable damage while waiting for Electric Grid Lockdown to cycle. It also becomes more important after his Exclusive Weapon, because Lightning Chain II applies Inductive Current stacks.

Electric Power Boost

Electric Power Boost third. This passive boosts Tesla’s Energy Damage, so it is obviously good, but I would not max it before his active damage skills unless your Tesla is already heavily invested. It amplifies his kit, but Electric Grid Lockdown and Lightning Chain are still the damage buttons doing the work.

Super Sensing

Super Sensing last, or after your main damage skills hit key breakpoints. It gives Tesla HP, Attack, Defense, and skill cooldown rate, which is nice, but Tesla’s value comes from killing the enemy backline faster. Do not let this eat resources before Electric Grid Lockdown is properly built.

Best Tesla Gear

For Tesla, the best gear priority is:

Cannon/Railgun

Cannon/Railgun first. Tesla’s important skills scale with Attack, so this is the cleanest way to increase his damage. If you are choosing where to put your best offensive gear, Tesla wants the strongest Cannon/Railgun you can spare.

Chip

Chip second. Chip is still very important because it supports offensive scaling, but I would treat it as the second offensive piece rather than the first. Some guides recommend Chip first, but after cross-checking, Cannon/Railgun first is the safer general DPS route because Tesla’s verified damage numbers scale directly from Attack.

Radar

Radar third. Tesla is a backline hero, but he still needs some protection, especially in PvP where backline hits and splash damage can reach him. Do not ignore Radar forever, just do not rush it before his damage core.

Armor

Armor fourth. Armor matters more once your first squad is already developed. Early on, Tesla should not be eating frontline damage anyway, so Armor is lower priority than his offensive pieces.

Also, do not waste serious upgrade resources on low-rarity gear. Build toward purple and especially legendary gear instead, because gear materials and ore are painful to recover once you start spreading them too thin.

Best Tesla Exclusive Weapon Priority

Tesla Exclusive Weapon

Tesla’s Exclusive Weapon is a big deal if you are committing to Missile teams. To activate it, Tesla needs to be 5-star and you need Tesla-specific Exclusive Weapon Shards. Once unlocked, it adds Inductive Current, which gives Tesla extra Energy Damage over time and makes his damage profile much scarier in longer fights.

The key breakpoints are Level 1, Level 10, Level 20, and Level 30. Level 1 upgrades Lightning Chain and lets it apply Inductive Current. Level 10 upgrades Electric Grid Lockdown and lets it apply 2 stacks. Level 20 unlocks Missile Specialist, boosting all Missile Vehicle heroes’ Attack, Defense, and HP by 7.5% in battle. Level 30 unlocks EM Induction, adding more Inductive Current interaction and increasing Tesla’s Tactics damage based on stacks.

This is why full Missile matters so much. Inductive Current deals continuous Energy Damage equal to 3% of Tesla’s Attack per second for 30 seconds, and the max stack count equals the number of Missile Vehicle heroes in Tesla’s squad × 3, capped at 15 stacks. In other words, a full 5-Missile team lets Tesla reach the full 15-stack ceiling.

For normal players, the best stopping point is Level 20. That gives Tesla his upgraded damage loop plus the teamwide Missile Vehicle stat boost. Level 30 is excellent, but it is more of a long-term or higher-spend target. Do not force Level 30 if your frontline, other Missile DPS, or main squad gear is still underbuilt.

Best Tesla Team

Tesla works best as a protected back-row DPS, so the goal is simple: give him a stable frontline, keep him in a Missile-friendly setup, and let him spam Energy Damage into the enemy back row.

The best full Missile team is:

Front Row: Adam + McGregor
Back Row: Fiona + Tesla + Swift

This is Tesla’s cleanest long-term setup. Adam and McGregor keep the squad alive, while Fiona, Tesla, and Swift stack damage from the back. Tesla should always stay in the back row here, where he can safely cycle Electric Grid Lockdown and keep pressuring enemy DPS/support units.

If your Missile team is not ready yet, use a transition lineup:

Front Row: Williams / Murphy / Adam / McGregor — pick your two strongest tanks
Back Row: Tesla + your best two damage or support heroes

Do not force a weak 5-Missile team just for synergy. A mixed squad with stronger frontline units often performs better until Adam, McGregor, Fiona, and Swift are properly built. Once your Missile core catches up, move Tesla back into the full Missile setup.

Tesla Awakening Strategy in Season 6

Tesla’s Awakening opens in Season 6 Week 6, after Kimberly in Week 1 and DVA in Week 3. To unlock it, Tesla needs 5★, Exclusive Weapon Lv.20+, and 50 Tesla Awakening Shards.

If Tesla is your main Missile DPS, prep early: finish his 5★, push his Exclusive Weapon to Lv.20, and save recruitment resources for Season 6 EW shard access. Awakening Shards mainly come from Hero Awakening Trial and Global Expedition.

Unlocking comes first. After that, Star 1 is a solid target for serious Missile players, while Star 2 is only worth rushing if Tesla is one of your true core carries.

Conclusion

Once Tesla’s setup comes together, he becomes one of the most satisfying Missile DPS units to build in Last War. Keep your resources focused, give him the right team environment, and let his Energy Damage carry the pressure where it matters most.
