The Fossil Album is one of those things in Last Z Season 4 that looks simple at first. Twenty slots, twenty fossils, fill them all and get rewards. But after a few weeks, a lot of players find themselves stuck at the same spot, wondering why some slots never seem to move while others fill just fine.
That's because the album isn't one system. It's two completely different systems disguised as one. And if you're treating them the same way, you're going to stall out well before slot 20.

What Is the Fossil Album?
The Fossil Album is a 20-slot collection that tracks your progress across Season 4. It sits in your Season menu, and every fossil you add lights up one more slot. But the album isn't just a checklist—it's also tied to a separate milestone track that pays out rewards along the way, so you benefit even before the whole thing is full.
First Ten Fossils – From the Ancient Dino Event
The first ten slots in the Fossil Album are tied directly to the five ancient dinosaurs that rotate through the Ancient Dino Event: T-Rex, Triceratops, Pterosaur, Ankylosaurus, and Dimetrodon. Each dinosaur has two associated fossils—a skull and a second bone—which means you're looking at ten specific pieces that only come from one place: the Sunday Ancient Dino fight.
Here's the part that surprises a lot of players. Defeating the boss on your server isn't enough to unlock these slots. You also need to land in the Top 200 on the damage leaderboard for that specific fight. Miss the Top 200 and that slot stays locked, even if your server takes the boss down. This applies every Sunday, not just the first time a particular dinosaur appears.
This means your combat performance directly determines how fast you fill the first half of the album. If you're consistently placing in the Top 200, you're earning those dino-specific fossils week after week. If you're not quite strong enough to crack the Top 200 on your own, joining a rally from a stronger alliance member still counts toward your damage contribution, so don't sit it out.
Last Ten Fossils – From the Weekend Shop
The second half of the album works completely differently. Slots 11 through 20 are generic fossil pieces—things like Carnivorous Dino Vertebra and Herbivorous Dino Tailbone—and unlike the first ten, these don't drop from the boss fight at all. They show up in a different place: the Bio Institute Shop.
The Bio Institute Shop only opens on Saturdays and Sundays. Everything inside costs Ancient Dino Eggs, and its inventory rotates with each refresh. That inventory includes the generic fossil bones for the back half of your album, alongside other useful items like Exquisite Equipment Fragments, Orange Hero Fragments, Badges, Speedups, and Resources.
You get a maximum of 14 manual refreshes per weekend. The first refresh is usually free. Each refresh changes the entire shop inventory, and generic fossils appear on a chance basis—you're not guaranteed to see one on every refresh. This means managing your shop refreshes is just as important as landing Top 200 on Sunday. You can't brute-force the second half of the album through combat alone. It requires planning and a bit of luck with the shop rotation.
Milestone Rewards
A lot of players treat the album like an all-or-nothing deal: finish all 20 slots or it's pointless. That's not how it works.
Every time you pick up a fossil—whether it's a Top 200 reward from Sunday's boss fight or a generic bone from a Bio Institute refresh—it counts toward a separate milestone bar running underneath the album grid. This milestone bar pays out rewards at set thresholds, roughly 30, 50, 100, 180, 240, and 300 points. Hit one of those numbers and you get a reward immediately. No need to wait for slot 20.
The milestone rewards include things like resource bundles, blueprint chests, and speedup packs—all useful on their own. By the time you're closing in on a full album, you've already collected several rounds of checkpoint drops along the way.
This changes how you should think about the album. You don't need to be a top damage dealer to benefit. You don't need to complete all 20 slots to get value. Every Sunday you participate, you're moving that milestone bar forward. Skip a few Sundays in a row and you'll fall noticeably behind players who show up every time, even if their damage numbers are average.
What to Do with Duplicate Fossils
Once you've been collecting for a few weeks, you'll inevitably pull a fossil you already own. The good news is that duplicates are not dead weight in this system.
You can convert surplus fossils into Ancient Dino Eggs through the Exchange option in the album menu. This is a manual action, not automatic—you need to open the album, check the exchange tab, and confirm the trade yourself. On weeks where you haven't picked up any extras, the exchange screen will simply tell you there's nothing to convert, which is normal and just means everything you've collected so far is still filling new slots.
Here's the loop this creates: fossils from either source—Sunday fights or shop refreshes—can become duplicates. Duplicates turn into eggs. Eggs feed back into the Bio Institute Shop for more fossils. The loop runs every weekend, and even a "bad" Sunday—one where you pull a fossil you already had—is still productive. You're not walking away empty-handed. You're walking away with eggs.
And there's an extra layer: duplicates also count toward your milestone points, so they're doing double duty even though they don't move you closer to actually completing the 20-piece set.
Three Mistakes That Slow Down Your Album Progress
Assuming duplicates are worthless. That's the fastest way to let free eggs slip through your fingers. Check the album exchange tab every Sunday after the boss fight. If you have extras, convert them immediately. A few eggs per week adds up to a meaningful shop haul over the course of the season.
Ignoring the Bio Institute Shop refresh limit. 14 refreshes per weekend sounds like a lot until you waste half of them refreshing impulsively. If you're missing a specific generic bone, refresh until it appears. If you're chasing hero fragments or badges, know when to stop and save eggs for next week. The refreshes are limited, so each one has value.
Skipping Sundays because you won't rank Top 200. Even if you can't crack the Top 200 for the dino-specific slots, you can still make steady progress on slots 11–20 through the Bio Institute Shop. And you can still collect milestone points from every fossil you earn—including the ones from shop refreshes. Top 200 is one path, not the only path.
