What Is Season 5: Moonlit Elegy?

Every season in Last Z resets the map and introduces a new theme, new seasonal mechanics, and new progression content that builds on what came before. Season 4 brought dinosaurs, Glory Wars, and the Hatch of Legends system. Season 5: Moonlit Elegy shifts the aesthetic toward a darker, gothic moonlit atmosphere — and more importantly, it fundamentally raises the ceiling on how powerful your heroes can become.

new seasonal mechanics

The headline feature is the Beyond 5 Stars hero upgrade system. Until now, 5 stars was the cap for hero development. Season 5 tears that ceiling off and introduces a 10-star track with a completely separate upgrade material and a set of red star bonuses that compound with every new tier you unlock. This isn't a minor number bump — each new star tier unlocks a different category of power that meaningfully changes what your heroes can do in combat.

The New Hero System: Beyond 5 Stars Explained

This is the most important thing to understand about Season 5. The upgrade ladder now has two distinct phases:

Stars 1–5 work exactly as before. You use Universal Hero Fragments (S) — the standard orange fragments you've been farming through events, Alliance Duel, and seasonal content. Nothing about this phase changes.

Stars 6–10 are the new territory, and they require a completely different material: SS Hero Fragments. These are harder to obtain, season-specific, and the primary new resource to prioritize farming in S5.

SS Hero Fragments

Reaching 5 Stars is the gating requirement that unlocks the path to 10-Star Awakening. If your key heroes aren't at 5 stars yet, that's your first priority before engaging with any of the new content.

What Each Red Star Actually Unlocks

Unlike the 1–5 star track where each upgrade gives a flat stat boost, the red stars from 6 to 10 each unlock a different type of power. Knowing what you're working toward at each tier helps you plan your SS Fragment spending much more deliberately.

different type of power

Star

Bonus Type

What It Does

6★

Skill Enhancements

Opens new enhancement options tied to your hero's kit — not just a damage number increase, but new skill capability that wasn't accessible before

7★

Base Stats & Attributes

Meaningful increase across your hero's core stat profile: ATK, DEF, and attribute thresholds all go up. The most immediately noticeable combat spike for most players

8★

Skill Effectiveness

Active and passive skills hit harder or trigger more consistently. Especially impactful for DPS heroes since it multiplies the output of abilities you're already building around

9★

Stronger Passive Bonuses

New passives that operate in the background every battle, compounding with your existing formation and faction bonuses

10★

Massive Power Burst

The most expensive and most powerful upgrade in the system. Simultaneous boosts to POWER, ATK, DEF, and Troop Cap — the game calls it the key to true dominance, and the numbers back it up

The 10th star stands apart from the rest not just in cost but in scope — it's the only tier that upgrades all four core stats at once. If you're building toward a specific threshold, 7★ is the first major combat milestone worth targeting, and 10★ is the endgame for serious spenders.

How to Get SS Hero Fragments

SS Hero Fragments are the new premium material in Season 5 and the primary bottleneck for most players pushing beyond 6 stars. Based on how Last Z has handled seasonal materials in previous seasons, expect them to come from:

Seasonal battle pass and journey rewards — The Season 5 journey track will almost certainly feature SS Fragments as milestone rewards. Completing journey objectives efficiently is the fastest free path to early red star progress.

Glory Wars and seasonal events — In Last Z, alliances compete every Tuesday in Glory Wars, earning season points with higher rankings giving better rewards including seasonal fragments and other valuable items. Season 5's version of this will likely reward SS Fragments for top-performing alliances.

 Glory Wars

Seasonal shop and event exchange — The seasonal shop sells exclusive equipment fragments, orange hero fragments, badges, and speedups, with 14 free refreshes available every weekend. Expect SS Fragments to appear here at a premium cost during S5.

Paid bundles — As with all previous seasons, spenders will have direct bundle access to SS Fragments. LDShop offers up to 35% off Last Z top-ups, making it the most cost-efficient place to fund any bundle purchases this season.

Which Heroes Should You Push to Red Stars First?

season heroes

All three of these heroes are Season 1 orange S-rarity picks, and they remain the backbone of faction play heading into Season 5. The first wave of Season 1 heroes — Evelyn (Guard of Order), Scarlett (Wings of Dawn), and the Blood Rose counterpart — introduced massive 70% training speed bonuses for their respective faction troop types through their third skills. At higher star levels, these bonuses expand and reduce resource costs for training, and by five stars they boost attack and defense for all troop types. That long-term compound value is exactly why they're worth pushing into red stars in Season 5.

Hero

Third Skill Value

Why Push Red Stars

Oliveira

Assaulter training speed +70%;

ATK & DEF boost per Blood Rose hero deployed

Each Blood Rose hero deployed increases troop ATK & DEF by 5%;

full 5-hero deployment adds +10% troop capacity.

Red stars amplify these multipliers further at every tier

Evelyn

Rider Camp training speed +40–41%;

ATK & DEF boost per Guard of Order hero deployed

Guard of Order heroes like Evelyn excel when paired with riders, boosting their HP and training speed so riders can break enemy formations and secure objectives.

Red stars deepen that combat utility at the 7★ and 8★ tiers

Scarlett

Shooter troop buffs: defense, training speed, HP bonuses;

ATK & DEF boost per Wings of Dawn hero deployed

Wings of Dawn heroes like Scarlett provide buffs including increased attack speed, higher health and defensive bonuses that help shooter troops hold their own against heavy melee formations.

Strong red star target for anyone running a counter-Blood Rose strategy

The priority order within this trio depends on your faction. Push your main faction's hero first and concentrate SS Fragments there before touching the others. Wings of Dawn is currently the easiest faction to recommend for newer players because it plays well into the most common matchups.

If you're running Scarlett as your core, she's the natural first red star target. Oliveira is the go-to for Blood Rose mains, and Evelyn rewards players who have committed fully to Guard of Order's rider gameplan. Regardless of faction, the rule stays the same: one hero at a time, always your main formation first.

F2P Strategy for Season 5

If you're playing free-to-play, the Beyond 5 Stars system requires a patient, targeted approach. You will not be able to push all heroes to 10★ without spending — that's the nature of the new top-end system. But smart F2P play can absolutely get key heroes into the 6★–8★ range by end of season.

Focus on one hero at a time. Splitting SS Fragments across five heroes means nobody hits a meaningful red star threshold. Pick your highest-priority hero and get them to 7★ before touching anyone else.

Maximize your Alliance Duel performance. Alliance Duel rewards include badges, diamonds, skill books, and hero fragments — you're not just upgrading, you're getting paid to upgrade. In Season 5, those fragment rewards likely include SS Fragments at higher duel tiers.

Never upgrade outside event windows. Never upgrade Hero Training outside of events. Wednesday is Age of Science day for research upgrades, and the smart move is to save your final, expensive nodes for those windows to maximize alliance points and climb the personal leaderboard simultaneously. The same discipline applies to SS Fragment spending.

Use LDShop for top-ups if you plan to spend. LDShop offers up to 35% off Last Z top-ups — the savings stack up significantly over a full season of bundle purchases.

FAQ

Do I have to reach 5 stars before accessing the red star system?

Yes. Reaching 5★ is the hard requirement that unlocks the path to 10-Star Awakening. If your heroes aren't maxed on the standard track first, the red star system isn't accessible.

Are SS Hero Fragments different from regular Universal Hero Fragments?

Completely different materials. Universal Hero Fragments (S) handle the 1–5 star track. SS Hero Fragments are a new Season 5-specific resource used exclusively for red stars 6 through 10.

Which red star gives the biggest power jump?

The 10th star (5th Red Star) delivers the largest single stat boost in the entire system — simultaneous increases to POWER, ATK, DEF, and Troop Cap. It's also the most expensive. Save your SS Fragments deliberately if 10★ is your target.

Can I use my existing heroes from Season 4 in the new system?

Yes — any hero you had at 5★ coming out of Season 4 is eligible to begin red star upgrades immediately once Season 5 SS Fragments become available.

Is the 10-Star system worth it for F2P players?

The 6★ and 7★ thresholds are realistic F2P targets by mid-season. 8★ is achievable for focused players by end of season. 9★ and 10★ are high-investment tiers best suited for spenders or players making very deliberate resource sacrifices over the full season.

What's the best source of SS Fragments for F2P?

The Season Journey, Glory Wars alliance rewards, and the seasonal shop are expected to be the primary free sources based on how Last Z has handled seasonal materials in previous seasons.

Season 5 Is the Biggest Hero Update Last Z Has Ever Had

The jump from 5 to 10 stars isn't just a number change — it's a structural overhaul that adds months of new meaningful progression for everyone from casual daily players to serious PvP spenders. The key is knowing which heroes to invest in first, what each red star tier actually delivers, and how to accumulate SS Fragments efficiently without burning through them on the wrong targets.
