Hey everyone!

Just when you thought Season 7 was still fresh out of the oven, NetEase is already cooking up something sinister for the next chapter. The devs dropped a sneaky teaser at the end of the recent Lower Manhattan map showcase, and let me tell you—we has been dissecting every single frame since.

Grab your popcorn, because we’ve got a lot to unpack.

When Does Marvel Rivals Season 8 Start?

First things first—mark your calendars. Season 8 is expected to launch on May 15, 2026 .

When Does Marvel Rivals Season 8 Start?

Why the accelerated timeline? Season 7 is running a shorter-than-usual 8-week cycle instead of the standard 9 weeks . NetEase is clearly picking up the pace, and honestly? I’m here for it. Faster seasons mean fresher metas, and this current Black Cat dive comp era has overstayed its welcome for some of us.

The Season 7.5 update is dropping next week, so we’ve got a few more weeks of chaos in Lower Manhattan before the next big shakeup .

Who Is the Season 8 Hero? The Hood Explained

The Hood

Here’s where things get spicy. At the very end of the Lower Manhattan map trailer, observant players spotted something hovering inside a glass display case—a floating red hood and cloak .

That’s not just any accessory. That’s the signature gear of Parker Robbins, aka The Hood .

The Hood started as a small-time NYC criminal who got incredibly lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it). He stole a pair of mystical boots and a cloak from a Nisanti demon, not realizing he was walking away with gear powered by Dormammu—yes, that Dormammu, the Lord of the Dark Dimension .

So yeah, a petty crook suddenly wielding cosmic-level dark magic. That’s the kind of power scaling I love to see.

Based on his comic book abilities, here’s what we’re probably looking at:

Ability

Expected Mechanic

Magical Twin Pistols

Demonic energy bullets that might pierce armor or ignore shields

Invisibility & Levitation

Cloak-powered stealth with aerial mobility—hello, backline nightmare

Demon Form

Likely his Ultimate, transforming into a full demonic entity for a power spike

If the leaks are accurate, The Hood will probably land as a Duelist . The combination of invisibility, flight, and dual-wielded magical pistols sounds like a flanker’s dream kit. We already know how oppressive stealth can be in Rivals—Psylocke and Invisible Woman have proven that. But adding ranged damage to the mix? Chef’s kiss.

The only potential downside? The Duelist role is already packed. Some players are hoping NetEase reworks him into a Vanguard instead, giving tanks some much-needed variety. Either way, a character with this much mobility and burst potential is going to shift the meta dramatically.

But Wait—There’s Another Contender

Not everyone is convinced The Hood is the lock for Season 8. Some dataminers, including prominent insider Miller Ross, have pointed to a mysterious figure in recent gallery cards that strongly resembles Mystique .

A shapeshifter who could disguise herself as enemy players? That would be an absolute mind-bender in solo queue. Imagine walking back to your team after a fight, only to realize too late that the “support” standing next to you was actually Mystique lining up a backstab. The paranoia would be real.

It’s also possible we’re getting both eventually—The Hood for Season 8, Mystique for Season 9. NetEase loves their multi-season arcs, and the current mutant-focused storyline is far from over.

Meanwhile, in Season 7…

Before we get too far ahead, let’s not ignore the absolute chaos happening right now in Season 7.

The April 9 Patch Dropped Some… Interesting Skins

The April 9 Patch Dropped Some… Interesting Skins

On April 9, 2026, NetEase released a minor patch (version 20260409) with zero server downtime—but the content was anything but minor .

The headliner? Maid Deadpool.

Yes, you read that correctly. The Merc with a Mouth is now serving looks in a full maid costume, originally from Deadpool (2008) #20 . The “Hospitality 101” Lucky Draw event lets players pop balloons for a chance at the legendary skin, with a maximum cost of 2,400 Units if your luck is terrible .

The community reaction has been… mixed. Some players are thrilled. Others are tired of the gacha-style acquisition system. One X user summed it up pretty bluntly: “Why do they keep doing these balloon events when we’ve made it abundantly clear we hate them?”

But here’s the kicker—Jeff the Land Shark also got a maid skin. And honestly? It’s adorable. The “Maid to Chomp” bundle is an original design created specifically for Rivals, and the internet is losing its mind over it .

Other additions from the April 9 patch:

- Iron Fist – Lin Shao: The Knockout Bundle

- Deadpool chroma variants (Poppin’ Peach and Yapping Yolk)

- Shark Attack emote combo (Deadpool + Jeff duo emote)

- White Fox Kumiho form color sync fixes

- Hulk healing bug fix

- Jeff Rodeo emote exploit patch (yes, Jeff could drag enemies into spawn rooms for free kills)

White Fox Is Dominating the Support Meta

White Fox Is Dominating the Support Meta

For those not following closely—White Fox joined the roster in Season 7 as a Strategist, and she’s been a menace. Her kit allows her to heal, buff allies, and debuff enemies, with a nine-tailed fox transformation Ultimate that amplifies everything. If you haven’t learned to play her yet (or counter her), now’s the time.

What About the Lower Manhattan Map?

What About the Lower Manhattan Map?

The new map that dropped with Season 7 is absolutely gorgeous. Set in a Fisk-controlled version of NYC, it features:

- The towering Alchemax building

- The Statue of Liberty in the background

- A giant, solid gold Jeff the Shark statue (because why not?)

The map has some tight chokepoints that heavily favor brawler comps, but there are also open sightlines that let snipers (looking at you, Hela and Hawkeye) dominate if left unchecked. I’ve been running dive-heavy comps with Black Panther and Spider-Man to exploit the verticality, but your mileage may vary.

Final Thoughts

The Hood brings something fresh to the table—stealth, ranged damage, and dark magic all in one package. A shape-shifting trickster would break the game’s information economy in ways we’ve never seen before.

Either way, the May 15 release date is approaching fast. Use the remaining weeks of Season 7 to grind those ranked points and stock up on Units—because if The Hood drops with another Lucky Draw event, your wallet might be in danger.

Until next time, Rivals. Keep those ults charged.
