New Map Summit

Summit is one of the biggest additions in Act 4. It is a 5v5 Spike mode map set in a Radiant training academy in the mountains of China. The map features training halls, meditation gardens, and mountain architecture, giving it a mystical and elegant atmosphere. In terms of gameplay, Summit has three lanes and two sites. Its key mechanic is droppable walls, which can reshape sightlines, attack routes, and defensive rotations during a round. Because of this, players should not treat Summit like a simple fixed-angle map. Instead, they need to understand how wall changes affect timing, rotations, and post-plant situations.

During the early days of the map, players should focus on mid control, site entrances, retake routes, and droppable wall interactions. Attackers can use walls to create pressure and block vision, while defenders need to predict whether enemies will use walls to change the pace of the round.

Summit has entered the Competitive map pool immediately. To help players learn the map with less pressure, Riot has added a special RR rule for the launch period. For the first two weeks, RR losses on Summit are reduced by 50%, while wins still grant full RR.

This makes early Act 4 the best time to practice Summit. If you care about ranked performance, you should not avoid the map completely. Summit will be part of the normal Competitive pool, so learning its layout, common angles, and retake routes early can help reduce mistakes later.

Limited-Time Retake Mode

Act 4 introduces Retake, a limited-time 3v3 Spike mode. Unlike a normal match, the Spike is already planted at the start of each round. One team holds the site, while the other team tries to retake and defuse. Sides swap every round, and the first team to win five rounds wins the match.

This mode focuses on high-frequency post-plant practice. Players can quickly train site holding, retake coordination, utility clearing, defuse timing, and clutch decision-making. If you often lose ranked rounds during post-plant or retake situations, this mode is worth playing.

Retake does not use a traditional economy system. Instead, players choose from card-based weapon, armor, and ability options each round. This makes the mode faster and more focused on practical combat scenarios.

Agent Balance

Act 4 includes several agent balance changes, with Sentinels receiving the most attention. Cypher, Killjoy, Veto, Sage, and Deadlock all received buffs, aiming to improve their defensive power, map control, and ability to hold sites alone.

  1. Sage’s Healing Orb self-heal-over-time has been increased from 50 to 100, making her stronger in solo site holds and clutch situations.
  2. Killjoy also received multiple buffs, including a faster Turret fire rate, longer Nanoswarm duration, and faster Alarmbot movement speed, improving her overall site control.
  3. Initiators also received cooldown improvements. The signature ability cooldowns of Sova, Fade, Skye, Breach, and KAY/O have been reduced from 60 seconds to 50 seconds.
  4. Gekko’s cooldown after reclaiming his buddies has also been reduced. This means Initiators can use key utility more often in mid- and late-round situations.

Map Pool Changes

Act 4 changes the Competitive and Deathmatch map pools. Summit and Sunset are now in the pool, while Fracture and Pearl are out.

For ranked players, this directly changes training priorities. Summit is the new map and should be learned first. Sunset’s return also means players should refresh their understanding of mid control and site execution. Since Fracture and Pearl are temporarily out, players can spend less time practicing those maps and focus more on the current active pool.

Ranked and Matchmaking Adjustments

This update also adjusts Ranked Rating calculations. Riot says the goal is to make players feel less stuck when they are consistently winning matches. On PC, matchmaking has also been adjusted so that the average rank of both teams is closer.

In simple terms, if your win rate is stable, the ranked climb may feel smoother in Act 4. However, the actual experience will still depend on hidden MMR, win streaks, and match performance.

Weapon and Client Updates

The Bandit has received tuning in Act 4. Riot wants the weapon to be more reliable outside of pistol rounds while keeping its identity as a precision weapon. The changes affect recovery, tap efficiency, and recoil behavior. Players who enjoy accurate tap firing may want to test the Bandit again in the new patch.

The client also now includes an Inbox feature. Players can use it to check certain non-urgent notifications, such as gifting updates, Premier updates, RR refund notifications, report feedback, and Act introduction messages. This is mainly a quality-of-life feature and does not directly affect gameplay strength.

What Should You Do First in Act 4?

If you are just starting Act 4, here is a good priority order:

First, play Summit Only or casual matches to learn the new map layout.

Second, use Retake mode to practice post-plant and retake situations.

Third, test buffed Sentinels such as Sage, Killjoy, and Cypher.

Fourth, check the Battle Pass rewards and see if they include weapons you actually use.

Fifth, decide whether to buy the Battle Pass or save your VP for store bundles.

Conclusion

Overall, Act 4 is a major content update. Summit will affect map knowledge and ranked preparation, Retake offers a faster way to practice clutch situations, and Sentinel and Initiator buffs may change agent choices. If you want to adapt quickly, do not focus only on the Battle Pass. Treat the new map, new mode, and balance changes as part of your full Act 4 preparation plan.
