Ellen Buff! Things Change in Ellen Rework | Zenless Zone Zero 2.0

It’s been a couple days since the ZZZ 2.0 live stream, and there were a crazy amount of things announced to us as players. But out of all the announcements, there’s one thing stood out to me, Ellen is getting buffed!

These adjustments not only refine her mechanics but also demonstrate the developers' commitment to keeping limited agents relevant. Let’s dive into the details!

 

New Mechanics & Key Changes

In the Roaming state, Ellen can hold to unleash her Scissor strikes when enemies attacks. This not only grants invincibility but also instantly completes the charge, massively speeding up her Flash Freeze Charge.

Now, her passive will apply to her Dash Attack, her ultimate, and her new Basic Attack string, increase 100% CRIT DMG.

Her additional ability is finally getting the flexibility it's been needing. Before it only worked with Ice units or Victoria housekeeping. But now it also works with Stun Agents.

That means agents like Lighter who were already great teammates for Ellen can now finally synergize with her additional ability without outside help. New Stun Agent Ju Fufu can also pair well with Shark.

 

Basic Attack: Icy Blade

There are 4 ways that can automatically launch Icy Blade:

• On the 3rd hit of Basic Attack: Flash Freeze Trimming
• Ex Special Attack: Sharknami
• Dodge Counter: Reef Rock
• Assist Follow-Up

When attacking Small foes, Ellen dealing multiple instances of lce DMG to all enemies in a large area ahead. lt inflicts additional instances of lce DMG against Medium and Large foes.

Upon triggering the Skill, Ellen gains the the Quick charge effect, reducing the charge time of Dash Attack: Arctic Ambush.

lcy Blade does not affect the branch or form of the original Skill. Character is invulnerable while using this Skill.

Icy Blade is a wide-range wave as the shown GIF, you can try it in the Hollow Zero.

The rework Icy Blade is incredibly strong, aside from losing the DEF reduction effect, it’s easy to trigger, has a wide attack range, deals high DMG, grants invincibility, and be able to gain Quick Charge.

 

Basic Attack: Glacial Blade Wave

After the 3rd hit of Basic Attack, Dash Attack: Arctic Ambush's charged scissor strike, Dodge Counter: Reef Rock, and Quick Assist, if Ellen has Flash Freeze Charges, pressing will launch Basic Attack: Glacial Blade Wave, dealing Ice DMG.

Consume 2 points of Flash Freeze Charge, character is invulnerable while using this skill.

During the Glacial Blade Wave, Ellen is invincible and after using it, she can immediately follow up with the 3^rd hit of the Basic Attack and then automatically launch the Icy Blade.

It’s clear that rework Ellen will have a more invincibility frames and far more combo options.

 

Dash Attack: Arctic Ambush

After unlocking her potential, when Ellen is charging Dash Attack: Arctic Ambush and gets hit by an enemy, she becomes immune to that DMG and instantly completes the charge.

Previously, Ellen’s Charged Scissor Strike would be interrupted by attacks. Now, she can automatically block attacks and instantly complete her charge. This makes accumulating Charges much easier and faster.

This change is quite interesting; whereas the old Ellen had to avoid attacks, the SP Ellen almost welcomes them, as being attacked allows her to charge immediately.

 

Core Passive: Sharp-Toothed

When Ellen launches a Charged Scissor Strike during, Dash Attack: Arctic Ambush, or consumes a Flash Freeze Charge to activate Basic Attack: Flash Freeze Trimming, the skill's CRlT DMG is increased by 100%.

The above effect also applies to Chain Attacks, Ultimates, Basic Attack: lcy Blade and Basic Attack:Glacial Blade Wave. It boost Ellen’s overall DMG output compared to the previous version.

 

Additional Ability: Rising Storm

After unlocking Ellen's potential, and when another character in your squad shares the same Attribute or Faction, or is a Stun Agent:

When Ellen deals lce DMG, subsequent lce DMG increases by 3% for 10s. This effectcan stack up to 10 times, and repeated triggers reset the duration.

This isn’t just a damage buff. It’s a complete structure update for how you can build around your Ellen. And that’s honestly what surprises me the most.

It shows that devs are actually thinking about character flexibility, long-term team building, and just making these agents fun to use.

While this might look like a few kit buffs on the surface, it’s more than that. It’s a signal that devs aren’t afraid to go backwards and fix things.

It doesn't need to be a full-on rework. Sometimes all it takes is a better additional ability or a minor team synergy fix. And boom, a character feels brand new.

 

Shark Frenzy Event

After the Anniversary version update, Proxies who own the Agent Ellen can participate in the Shark Frenzy Event event. Head to the event page and click the"Activate Potential" button to instantly activate Ellen's enhancement!

Proxies who do not own Ellen cannot participate in this event.

 

Conclusion

This change is not only amazing for her, but very healthy for the entire game. Ellen's buff feels like a stepping stone, not just a one-off thing.

It tells Proxies that they're not just focused on new banners and power creep. They want to build a game with longevity, with characters that don't get left behind just because they came out early.
