Ishmael: Parhelion is the first Observer-class unit in Punishing: Gray Raven, bringing unprecedented flexibility to team building. She adapts to fill missing Tank or Amplifier roles across five different elements, making her one of the most valuable roster patches in the game. This guide covers her skills, evolutions, builds, and optimal team composition.
Ishmael: Parhelion Overview
Ishmael: Parhelion is an S‑Rank Observer wielding the Keystaff weapon. She is the first Observer-class unit in Punishing: Gray Raven, introducing a new level of flexibility to team building.

Rank: S-Rank | Class: Observer | Element: Nihil (100%)
Skill Kit & Abilities
Ishmael starts in Wanderer Form, using Blue Orbs to fill her Collapse Mark and build her first Signature. Once she casts it, she enters Dominator Form, where Blue Orbs become Red Orbs. Her Yellow Orb is always available in both forms and applies a 6‑second damage buff, but it has a 20‑second cooldown — so you should never use it outside Dominator Form.
In Dominator Form, Red Orbs and the Yellow Orb fill her Keystaff gauge. When full, she can spam dodge to perform an attack string that builds Collapse Points (capped at 360) and Signature Energy without consuming dodge gauge. Once the points turn purple (270+), she holds dodge to unleash a powerful axe kick that consumes all points and refunds enough energy for her second Signature, which resets her back to Wanderer Form.
At SS3, the first hold‑dodge in Wanderer Form instantly grants 180 Collapse Points, speeding up the first rotation significantly. At SSS, pinging enhanced Red Orbs during the dodge string immediately triggers the finger gun and maxes out her Collapse Points. With Dead Line Timing weapon resonance, she can complete three full cycles instead of two — this is the single most impactful upgrade.
Rank Passives – Evolution Breakdown
|
Rank |
Key Unlocks |
Practical Value |
|
S5 |
Signature and Dimensional Collapse trigger all available QTEs |
Baseline. Standard S5 utility. |
|
SS |
Dominator Form Extra DMG +30%. Prime Entity costs only 12 Signature Energy (instead of 30). Forbidden Realm active → gains 1 Signal Orb per Phantom Annihilation cast |
Smooths out rotations significantly. Lower energy cost means faster entry into Dominator Form. |
|
SS3 |
First Cosmic Afterglow per battle grants 180 Collapse Points + Collapse Mark. Silent Punishment Base DMG +60%. Phantom Annihilation grants +3 bonus Signature Energy during Forbidden Realm |
Major breakthrough. Speeds up first rotation dramatically and boosts damage. |
|
SSS |
Collapse Points' damage amplification +50%. During 5th hit of Phantom Annihilation, enter 3-Ping orbs to deal 1000% extra Nihil DMG and gain 180 Collapse Points |
Significant damage ceiling increase. The enhanced 3-Ping during dodge string is a powerful new tool. |
|
SSS3 |
Both Signatures deal +30% Extra DMG |
Straight damage increase. |
|
SSS6 |
Phantom Annihilation and Signal Orbs deal +30% Extra DMG |
More damage across the board. |

Maximum investment. |
Bottom Line:
- SS is the functional baseline — get there via one copy + Pain Cage skulls
- SS3 is the biggest single upgrade — strongly recommended if you can afford it
- SSS pushes her into top-tier damage territory

Builds – Weapons, Memories & CUB
Signature Weapon – Alpha-Omega

Alpha-Omega provides the following effects:
- ATK +10%
- Signature – Prime Entity immediately grants 3 Signal Orbs
- Entering the field grants up to 6 Signal Orbs each time
- Observation Notes effects (Resistance Reduction / DMG Bonus) increased by an additional 10%
Importance: High, but not strictly mandatory. Her rotation works without it — the five-star weapon is functional. However, the ability to resonate and harmonize is where the real value lies, particularly for Dead Line Timing (see below).
Weapon Resonance Priority
|
Priority |
Resonance |
Effect |
|
Highest (Tank) |
Dead Line Timing |
Deployed: +2 random orbs; every 45s: +3 same-color orbs |
|
High (Tank) |
Domain Deconstruction |
Reduces all enemy resistances by 8% for 8s |
|
High (Amplifier) |
Superconducting Axial Ray |
Team Full ATK +8% |
|
Medium |
Matrix Lightning / Glorious Spear |
Situational |
Key note: Dead Line Timing is critical for Ishmael. Without it, she can only complete two full rotation cycles before running out of orbs. With it, she can do three cycles. This is the one case where Dead Line Timing out-prioritizes Domain Deconstruction.
Memory Builds
Ishmael has one general-purpose build that works for almost all situations:

2nd Slot |
3rd Slot |

4th Slot |
5th Slot |
6th Slot |

Soth increases her on-field damage and enhances Observation Notes effects (more shred as Tank, more damage buff as Amplifier)
- Cottie helps build Signature Energy faster — essential since her entire kit revolves around cycling Signatures

- Support (Tank role, off-field): 2‑piece Einsteina (all-element resistance reduction)
Resonance:
- Bottom slot: Merciful Confession (Signature Move level +1)
- Top slot: Any ATK +15
Hypertuning: Bottom row first (ATK bonuses), then top row.
CUB – Diamaton

Diamaton pulls in nearby enemies and smashes from above, dealing damage.
Priority: Lowest among her equipment. The CUB is fine but not remarkable — Ishmael tracks enemies very well in Dominator Form, so grouping is less critical. Skip this if you need to save resources.
Best Team & Teammates
Ishmael's optimal meta slot is the Nihil team as the Tank.
Leader (Main DPS) — Luna: Oblivion

Luna stays as the Leader. Her Annihilator passive provides too much value to give up, and she remains the primary damage dealer in Nihil content.
Tank (Sub-DPS / Shred) — Ishmael: Parhelion
Ishmael functions as the dedicated Tank, providing elemental resistance shred and significant off‑field damage. Her flexibility also allows her to fill missing Tank or Amplifier roles on other teams when needed.
Amplifier (Support) — Lilith (or best available Amplifier)

Lilith is the premier Amplifier for the Nihil team, but she needs to be at SSS to outperform other Amplifiers at equal investment. If your Lilith is lower ranked, use your best‑built Amplifier instead.
Team Notes
This composition eliminates the need to borrow Tanks or Amplifiers from other teams for Nihil content. Lilith does not need to see the field — she functions strictly as a support, so equip her with a supportive memory setup like 4‑piece Da Vinci. If you have a higher‑invested Amplifier than Lilith, use them until she reaches SSS.
Conclusion
Ishmael is a character built around flexibility, not dominance. She will never top the damage charts on off-element teams, but she does not need to. Her value comes from giving you options — turning a weak roster into a functional one and freeing up your best Tanks and Amplifiers for other content. In a game where team coverage matters more than ever, having a unit that can be almost anything you need is a luxury no player should pass up.
