The term "Varsapura" originates from Sanskrit, where "varsa" means "rain" and "pura" means "city," thus collectively translating to "Rain City." Accordingly, the game is set in an urban environment—reportedly modeled after Shanghai, China. The gameplay demo showcases the protagonist of "Varsapura" entering the Control Bureau (SEAL), undergoing tests, stepping into the "Otherworld," and confronting the "Mindrot" alongside companions. With its cinematic camera work, immersive narrative pacing, and emotional depth, combined with hyper-realistic environments, atmospheric music, and dynamic lighting, the game delivers a deeply immersive experience for players.
In the world of "Varsapura," there exist a consciousness space and a material space. The collective subconscious of humanity manifests as rain within the consciousness space, giving birth to supernatural monsters. An official organization known as the Control Bureau (abbreviated as SEAL) has been established to contain and monitor these supernatural entities and objects. The protagonist we play, seeking revenge against a killer who is an agent of the Control Bureau, voluntarily applies to join the organization. After resolving an incident involving out-of-control supernatural creatures in the consciousness space, the protagonist successfully passes the interview. However, the Bureau's director, Mr. Shadow, seems to have seen through the female protagonist's true motive for joining.
As we can see, although the game's story incorporates supernatural elements, it is still set in a modern urban environment. The protagonist's goal and motivation are not a grand, world-saving quest, but a darker, more realistic pursuit: finding the killer. So it will be two main storylines ran in parallel: the underlying thread of revenge and the surface-level mission to save the world.
Gameplay
In terms of combat gameplay, Varsapura largely follows the framework established by its predecessor, Genshin Impact. Players can deploy up to three different characters, but may only control one at a time. In addition to basic (and some derived) normal attacks, each character possesses one elemental skill and one elemental burst.
Taking the game's flagship character, "Sayuki," as an example:
Her normal attacks involve using police documents in her hands to deal physical damage. When enemies are drawn in and grouped together, players can not only use her elemental skill to summon an enlarged stack of documents to smash down on foes, but also activate her elemental burst to call forth a massive quantity of documents, unleashing a wide-area airburst.
However, unlike previous titles, the game also introduces a character-swapping "Cooperative Technique" mechanic, as well as a stealth assassination system that can be utilized before combat formally begins.
