Ronin arrived in Clash Royale with the July 2026 update, the first brand new card of the year. He dropped in the main game through the Honor and Exile season and also joined Merge Tactics Season 10 as a Ruler. Our full Season 10 guide covers every other change, but here we focus on Ronin. Almost every top player is calling him the best 1v1 troop ever added. Let’s follow LDShop, as this guide breaks down his strongest decks, his real role, and the cleanest ways to shut him down.
What Makes Ronin Different
Ronin is a 5 Elixir Legendary ground troop with fast movement. His signature ability is Parry Damage. Every 3.5 seconds he blocks one ground melee attack. Then he reflects double that damage straight back at the attacker.
A few details decide games:
- He spawns already charged, so he can parry mid deploy.
- The parry recharges while walking, fighting, or even frozen.
- The parry only stops ground melee hits.
- Ranged, air, spell, and area damage all ignore it completely.

At tournament level his health sits near a Knight, around 1,779. His raw damage feels closer to a Prince. That balance makes him tanky enough to trade and sharp enough to finish pushes.

Why Ronin Feels So Strong Right Now
For years, cheap cycle and bait decks feared big melee tanks. A single Prince or Boss Bandit could snowball a whole game. Ronin fixes that overnight. He often deletes those threats alone while handing you a positive Elixir trade. That extra Elixir keeps your pressure rolling. He is not a general defender though. Against the right deck he is game ending. Against the wrong one he sits useless.
If you are still working toward unlocking him this season, a quick Clash Royale top up can push your Pass Royale progress along faster and get his cards into your Collection sooner. The best platform to make the top-up is LDShop, it lets players top up for less and it is a great way to save money.
Best Ronin Decks in Season 10
Ronin does not lock into one archetype. He patches an old weakness in many builds. Here are the ones performing best.

Hog Rider Cycle
This fast cycle pairs constant Hog pressure with rock solid Ronin defense.
Cards: Hog Rider, Ronin, Firecracker, Earthquake, Barbarian Barrel, Tesla, Ice Spirit, Skeletons.
Ronin shuts down Mega Knight, PEKKA, and Boss Bandit with ease. Then he tanks beside your Hog for a nasty counter push. Earthquake clears buildings that block the Hog. Play Ronin reactively here, not as your opening move.

Log Bait
A quick cycle bait deck that loves what Ronin adds.
Cards: Goblin Barrel, Ronin, Magic Archer, Evo Wall Breakers, Cannon, Fire Spirit, Ice Spirit, Skeletons.
Bait always struggled against Prince and Mini PEKKA. Ronin erases that problem. He defends cheaply and frees Elixir for endless barrel pressure. Stack Magic Archer value over the match and most opponents crumble.

Royal Giant
Royal Giant never really leaves the meta, and Ronin makes its defense brutal.
Cards: Royal Giant, Ronin, Mega Minion, Electro Wizard, Fisherman, Skeletons, Cannon, Fireball.
Ronin melts the melee support that usually protects you against beatdown. Mega Minion clears air units fast. After a clean defense, drop Royal Giant at the bridge behind Ronin. Do not rush him. Defend first, then counter push.

Mortar and Goblin Drill Cycle
Both siege styles finally get a real anti tank tool. Ronin defends Prince, Bandit, and Boss Bandit while your Mortar or Drill chips the tower. These decks reward tight placement and fast cycling. They punish slow beatdown players hard. They are tough to master, but nearly unbeatable against bridge spam.

Miner Bridge Spam Hybrid
This higher cost build mixes bait and bridge spam into one aggressive package. Ronin removes high damage troops, Inferno Tower melts win conditions, and Miner chips away steadily. Every placement matters because the average Elixir cost climbs. It is the hardest deck here, but a monster once it clicks.

How to Counter Ronin
Ronin looks unfair until you learn his rules. His parry only punishes ground melee. So beat him without swinging a sword at him.
- Swarm him. Skeleton Army, Goblin Gang, and Guards spread damage, so one parry barely matters.
- Shoot him. Musketeer, Archers, Magic Archer, and Electro Wizard all ignore the reflection.
- Fly over him. Minions, Bats, and Baby Dragon take zero reflected damage.
- Spell him. Poison, Fireball, and Arrows bypass Parry Damage entirely.
- Use projectiles. Sparky and Bowler are not treated as melee, so nothing bounces back.
- Bring Zappies. Their rapid ranged hits chew through him safely.
One rule above all. Never feed a single big tank into Ronin. PEKKA, Mini PEKKA, and Prince practically kill themselves on him. If you must send a tank, put a distraction unit in front to eat the parries.
Smart Ronin Tips Most Players Miss
Small habits give Ronin huge value:
- Play him reactively. A lone Ronin as a first move dies to swarm.
- Drop him right on top of a tank so it cannot get pushed away.
- Facing an enemy Ronin, surround him early with Skeletons. He reflects them and weakens himself.
- Two Ronins can chain parries on one PEKKA and delete it instantly.
- His parry stun does not reset his target, so he keeps chasing the same unit.

Conclusion
Ronin is powerful, but he is a specialist, not a god card. He hard counters melee tanks and folds against swarms, air, and spells. Slide him into Hog, Log Bait, Royal Giant, or siege, and he patches weaknesses those decks carried for years. Learn his 3.5 second rhythm and you win melee trades for free. Learn his blind spots and no Ronin player scares you again.
