Launched with NTE Version 1.2 on July 8, 2026, 999 Nights is a fantasy-style single-player mode that takes Appraisers away from Hethereau and into the Warren Continent. Instead of relying on your normal character builds, this mode has its own levels, equipment drops, gear progression, and Mystery Button farming loop. This NTE 999 Nights best team build guide breaks down a smooth setup for Zero, Mint, Iroi, and Shinku, from your first clear to second-playthrough gearing and late-game farming.

How 999 Nights Gearing Works

The most important thing to understand is that 999 Nights is not about perfect gear from the start. During the first playthrough, you can clear most content by simply equipping whichever weapon, armor, or accessory has the highest raw stats. Gear drops from enemies and can also be bought from the Mysterious Fuzzy Merchant, while stronger pieces may require appraisal before their full stats and affixes are revealed.

That changes from the second playthrough onward. After clearing the Red Dragon once, 999 Nights opens harder repeat runs, and enemies start showing much higher levels and HP. At that point, random high-stat pieces are no longer enough. You want set effects, useful accessories, and a proper team setup built around fast clearing and safe farming.

First Playthrough Build

For your first run, do not overthink gear. Equip the highest-stat pieces you find and keep progressing through the story. Your goal is to unlock more of the Warren Continent, clear the four main dungeons, and get used to the mode’s combat flow.

 Secret Syrup

The only piece worth calling out early is Secret Syrup on Iroi. Since Iroi is one of the most important characters for this team’s later setup, giving her the story-provided Secret Syrup helps smooth out the first clear without forcing you to farm too early.

For Shinku, focus more on utility than damage during the early run. Once she unlocks more of her Dragon Knight tools later in Chapter 7, she becomes much more important, but before that point, just keep her geared enough to survive and move through the map comfortably.

Second Playthrough Build

The second playthrough is where the mode starts asking for real equipment. Monster HP jumps hard, so this is the point where you should begin farming around the White Flame setup. This setup is very useful for leveling in the second playthrough and also prepares you for Mystery Button farming in the third playthrough.

Recommended second playthrough setup:

Zero is your main stabilizer here. Morningstar Longsword plus the White Flame Ballad armor set gives the team a strong base for clearing regular enemies and pushing levels. Mint should use Sunsinge Twinblades with Sunseeker Light to improve the team’s damage pace. Iroi’s Flamecrown Codex and Shard Emberdream help keep the burn-style engine active, while Family Portrait and Tempering Stone improve her overall value.

Shinku’s role in this stage is mostly practical. She is great for moving around, handling field utility, and helping the team clear without making the rotation feel slow. That is why Cloud-Riding Charm and Swift Feather Charm works well here. You are not trying to make Shinku the full AFK carry yet; you are making the whole second playthrough less annoying.

Try to reach at least Level 95 before pushing too hard into the Red Dragon or the third playthrough. Updating your gear around Level 95 makes the Red Dragon fight much smoother and gives you a cleaner start once the third playthrough opens.

Second Playthrough Crimson Dragon Setup

For the second playthrough Crimson Dragon, Shinku can solo the fight with the right defensive setup. Use Blessed Nightfall as her armor choice, then run double Black Bleat Horn as accessories. The idea is very straightforward: let Shinku stand her ground, survive the incoming damage, and slowly grind the boss down without needing a complicated rotation.

This is not the fastest way to kill the Crimson Dragon, but it is comfy and reliable. If your gear quality is not perfect, this setup is much safer than trying to force a glass-cannon clear.

Third Playthrough Build

The third playthrough is where the guide fully shifts into Mystery Button farming. At this point, the goal is not just to clear. The goal is to farm comfortably, reset quickly, and let Shinku stay on-field with as little manual input as possible.

Recommended third playthrough setup:

For Zero, Radiant Flame Longsword is the upgrade target, while Unstable Charge and Thunder Flash give stronger farming value than the earlier comfort accessories. If you do not have those yet, double Tempering Stone is a fine temporary option.

Mint upgrades into Lightdancing Twinblades while keeping Sun-Chasing Light. Her job is to keep the team’s damage scaling high so the farming loop does not stall. Double Tempering Stone is clean, simple, and strong.

Iroi keeps the same basic identity as before. Dayrite Codex is the stronger weapon choice, while Dream of Shared Flame, Family Portrait, and Tempering Stone keep her contribution stable.

Shinku is now the center of the build. Run Tempered Flame as her weapon, Blessed Nightfall as her armor set, and double Cinderbone as the main accessory setup. If you do not have double Burning Bone yet, Dark Fuzzy Horn plus Iron Will is a solid backup for survivability. Once Shinku finds a dense monster spawn, she can simply stand there and let the setup auto-farm enemies with minimal input.

Conclusion

999 Nights gets a lot easier once you stop treating every run the same. Early on, high-stat gear is enough; later, proper sets and accessories make the difference between slow clears and comfy farming. Build Zero, Mint, Iroi, and Shinku around each playthrough’s real goal, then upgrade into your Shinku farming setup once Mystery Buttons become the main focus.
