If you have been staring at your old heroes thinking “surely this investment will pay off someday,” congratulations. Top War finally heard the collective crying of Commanders everywhere. Hero Awakening and Hero Exchange are officially arriving, and yes, this means your warehouse full of hero shards might actually become useful instead of emotional baggage.
In this guide, we will break down how Hero Awakening works, which servers can access the feature first, how Hero Exchange handles shards and Talents, plus the important details.

Top War Hero Awakening
Hero Awakening is a new hero progression feature coming to selected test warzones first.
How to Unlock Hero Awakening
To unlock Awakening for a hero, the following requirements must be completed:
- Hero reaches Lv.120
- Hero reaches 5 Stars
- Exclusive Skill reaches Lv.5
Once all conditions are met, Commanders can open the Heroes interface and tap the Awakening button to unlock the feature.
So yes. Your hero needs to be fully fed, fully trained, emotionally prepared, spiritually enlightened, and probably paying taxes before Awakening unlocks.
Top War Hero Exchange
Hero Exchange is another major feature arriving alongside Awakening. This system allows players to exchange heroes while converting hero shards.
Hero Exchange Requirements
Unlike Awakening, Hero Exchange has no Star Level or Exclusive Skill Level requirements.
That means Commanders can use the feature without needing to fully build the hero first.
Each target hero can only be exchanged once.
After a successful exchange:
- The original hero will still remain
- 100% of the hero shards used for star upgrades will be converted into shards of the exchanged hero
This is basically Top War saying, “We know you invested in the wrong hero three months ago. Here, take a refund coupon.”
How Talent Transfer Works During Hero Exchange
Talent handling depends on the state of both heroes during the exchange.
If Hero A Has Talents But Hero B Does Not
Hero A’s Talent data will transfer to Hero B.
If Hero B unlocks the Talent feature later, the transferred Talent data will automatically take effect.
If Both Heroes Have Talent Data
The Talent data between Hero A and Hero B will be swapped.
Important Talent Warning
After the exchange, Hero A may no longer meet the required development progress needed to unlock Talents.
If that happens, Hero A’s Talents will not take effect until the required Talent unlock conditions are met again through further development.
In simpler terms, the Talents are not deleted. They just go into temporary retirement until you rebuild the hero enough.
Test Warzone Range
The feature will be available in these test warzones:

Conclusion
Hero Awakening and Hero Exchange are easily two of the biggest hero progression updates Top War has introduced in a while. Awakening gives late game players another progression goal, while Hero Exchange finally offers a way to recover from questionable life decisions involving hero investments.
