Valorant runs nine competitive ranks and 25 divisions in total. Each division asks for 100 Rank Rating before it lets you through. That part is simple. The rest of the ladder is not, so let's follow LDShop through the rank order from Iron to Radiant, where players actually sit right now, the way RR and hidden MMR split your gains, Rank Shields, act resets in Season 2026, the Immortal and Radiant rules, party limits, and what Riot has changed this year.
All Valorant Ranks in Order From Iron to Radiant
Eight ranks split into three divisions each. Radiant sits alone at the top with no divisions.

That works out to 25 rungs. You climb them in a 1 to 3 order, so Silver 3 promotes into Gold 1, not Gold 3.
Ascendant is the rank people forget when listing them out. Riot added it between Diamond and Immortal in 2022 to relieve pressure on a crowded ladder.

Look at Gold 1 for a second. Reaching it puts you above roughly half the ranked population. Silver holds more players than any other tier, and that crowding is the real reason it feels sticky.
None of this stays fixed. Ranks bunch up near the bottom after a reset, then fan out again as the act runs on.
How the Valorant Ranking System Works: RR Explained
Iron 1 through Ascendant 3 all use the same 0 to 100 Rank Rating scale. Hit 100 and you move up, arriving in the next division with at least 10 RR on the board. Fall the other way and the drop is cushioned too, since a demotion leaves you no lower than 70 RR.
Four inputs decide your RR after each match:
- Win or loss. Still the heaviest factor by a wide margin.
- Round differential. A 13 to 4 win pays more than 13 to 11, and a close loss costs less than a blowout.
- Performance bonus. Applies from Iron through Ascendant only.
- Convergence. A multiplier based on the gap between your rank and your hidden MMR.
Typical wins land between 10 and 30 RR. Losses sit in a similar range, and higher ranks generally earn less per win while losing more per defeat.
Round differential rewards raw round wins, which usually comes down to gunplay rather than utility. Knowing the best Valorant weapons for each buy round protects those extra rounds.
A few smaller rules are worth knowing:
- Draws award up to 20 RR from Iron to Ascendant and never subtract any.
- Dodging a competitive lobby costs a few RR.
- Going AFK for three or more rounds adds an 8 to 12 RR penalty on top of the result.
- New or reworked maps carry a 50% reduced RR loss for their first two weeks, while wins still pay in full.
That last rule is free value. Queuing a fresh map during its launch window cuts the downside of every loss in half.

Hidden MMR in Valorant and Why RR Gains Differ
MMR is Riot's private read on your skill. It drives matchmaking and scales your RR through convergence.
Three things follow from that:
- Facing higher ranks is a good sign. A Silver player stuck in Platinum lobbies has Platinum MMR.
- Double promotions are real. When your rank sits more than three divisions below your MMR, a promotion can skip a division outright.
- Flat gains mean you have converged. Earning 12 RR after a 30-kill game says your rank has already caught up.
Riot's competitive team has said most accounts need 20 to 40 ranked games for rank and MMR to align. Below Diamond, the system also leans on encounter MMR, which tracks who you beat in duels. Killing the strongest enemy moves your MMR more than farming the weakest one. Winning more of those duels often starts with your best Valorant settings rather than extra hours.
Valorant Rank Shields and Demotion Rules
Rank Shields replaced blanket demotion protection, and the rules are narrower than most players assume.
- Two shields apply in Division 1 of every rank, such as Silver 1 or Diamond 1.
- Radiant is excluded, and so are Divisions 2 and 3.
- A loss at 0 RR burns one shield, and the third loss at 0 RR demotes you.
- Shields refill only when you enter Division 1 through promotion or demotion.
- Winning at 0 RR back up to 10 RR restores nothing.
Plenty of guides still describe this as a single loss buffer. Check the Rank Details screen in the client for your actual shield count before you queue again.

Valorant Rank Reset, Acts and Placement Matches in Season 2026
Valorant now runs a year-long season split into six acts of roughly two months each. Episodes are gone.

Competitive stays locked until Account Level 20. Unrated, Swiftplay, or anything else that pays XP will get you there. Read a Valorant beginner guide before you burn those five placements, because they carry more weight than normal games.
Act 4 opened on 24 June 2026 and wraps up around 19 August. Act 5 follows straight after. Since Act 4 carried the midseason hard reset, Act 5 asks for one placement match and drops you only slightly.
Your MMR barely moves through any reset. Strong players snap back within a handful of games while the visible ladder still looks compressed.
Valorant Act Rank and Ranked Rewards
Act Rank is the triangle badge on your career page. It fills with small triangles as you win ranked games, and your highest ranked win sets the badge.
The badge border upgrades at 9, 25, 50, 75, and 100 wins. Nine wins is the number that matters most, since that is the minimum for the ranked reward tied to your peak.
Riot has confirmed gun buddies stop being the primary ranked reward after this year. Season 2027 opens with a new item that evolves across your entire ranked year, handed out on day one instead of at act end.
Ranked rewards arrive free, but battle pass tiers and bundles still need Valorant Points. A Valornat Top up covers those before an act rolls over. The best platform to make the top-up is LDShop, it lets players top up for less and it is a great way to save money.

How to Reach Immortal and Radiant in Valorant
The top of the ladder stops behaving like the rest of it.
- RR keeps stacking past 100 with no automatic promotion.
- Regional RR thresholds separate Immortal 1, 2, and 3.
- Performance bonuses disappear, so only results move your RR.
- Radiant needs your region's threshold plus a top 500 spot.
- Riot standardised thresholds in March 2026, setting most regions at 300 RR with LATAM lower.
- Holding a leaderboard place requires one competitive game every seven days.
The published threshold rarely matches reality. Those 500 slots fill fast, so the true cutoff on busy servers climbs well past the minimum by an act's final weeks.
Valorant Competitive Party Restrictions and Five Stack RR Penalty
Four player groups cannot queue ranked. Solo, duo, trio, and five stacks are allowed.

A popular myth says every five stack loses RR. It does not. A balanced five stack of similar ranks pays out normally, and the penalty only triggers when the group breaks the rules duos and trios follow.
Competitive Changes Riot Made in 2026
Ranked integrity has been the theme of the year.
- Patch 12.00 reworked hidden MMR to improve match quality.
- Patch 12.05 rebalanced Immortal and Radiant thresholds for regional parity without touching MMR.
- Patch 13.00 adjusted RR calculations so consistent winners feel less stuck, and tightened matchmaking so team averages stay within one sub tier.
- Patch 13.01 began penalising confirmed rank manipulation with suspensions, rank reversions, and reward reversions.
RR refunds also continue. If you lose RR to a confirmed cheater, the refund now appears in the client Inbox.
How to Rank Up Faster in Valorant
- Never surrender a winnable scoreline, because round differential shrinks the loss.
- Warm up before queuing, since a cold opening match costs the RR of two normal games.
- Solo queue or duo queue when rank is the goal, as five stacks hide individual weaknesses.
- Take the duel against the strongest enemy when the odds favour you.
- Play 20 to 40 games in an act before deciding you are stuck.
Skins change nothing about RR, so plan the best Valorant Points spending around what you enjoy rather than what looks competitive.
Conclusion
The Valorant ranking system rewards consistency far more than highlight games. Your badge chases your MMR, your MMR follows your duels and your results, and the reset calendar decides the rest. Learn where the shields sit, respect the act schedule, and stop queuing once the shields run out. Do that across a full act and the climb stops feeling random.
