Hello Rover! Tomorrow, our handsome gentleman Qiuyuan will finally be released! Still hesitating about whether you should pull for him? Many rovers are also wondering if he's actually Galbrena's dedicated support. In this blog, we'll clear up your doubts and offer recommendations on whether to pull and how to build Qiuyuan!
Qiuyuan Overview

Rarity: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Attribute: Aero | Weapon: Sword
Qiuyuan is a support–sub-DPS who specializes in boosting Echo Skill DMG. His core mechanic builds up stacks to trigger "Swordster's Soliloquy" → "Bamboo's Shade," granting a significant Resonance Skill DMG bonus to active allies and massively enhancing team burst potential. While he can deal decent sub-DPS through Aero sword attacks, his real value lies in amplifying teammates' Echo Skill output. Teams that rely on Resonance Skills benefit greatly from him, making Qiuyuan a five-star unit focused on team utility.
Is Qiuyuan a Must-Pull for Galbrena?
First of all, he's an unbelievably handsome super hottie — who wouldn't like him? If you're pulling based on pure aesthetics and xp, you can summon him with zero hesitation. I'm already diving into the banner anyway.
Secondly, Galbrena is a Fire-element DPS whose damage mainly comes from Echo Skills, with Heavy Attacks as a secondary source. Acorrding to LDShop, Galbrena needs to accumulate a certain amount of "Afterflame", and the more Afterflame she has, the higher the damage enemies take from her enhanced attacks.
Galbrena can hold up to 40 points of Afterflame. While in Threshold State, Galbrena recovers 8 points of Afterflame when Resonators in the nearby team cast Echo Skill. Echoes with the same name can only trigger this effect once. This effect resets when Galbrena exits Demon Hypostasis. All Afterflame is removed upon exiting Demon Hypostasis.
In LDShop's blog covering Qiuyuan's kit, we can see that he is able to trigger a large number of Echo Skills. This makes him very effective at helping Galbrena stack Afterflame, greatly shortening her ramp-up time and boosting her overall damage. Because of this, Qiuyuan can be considered a dedicated support for Galbrena to a large extent.

If you choose to run Galbrena together with Qiuyuan, the third teammate can be Shorekeeper. She helps improve the team's survivability while also increasing Galbrena's DMG output.
Qiuyuan vs Cantarella
Currently, in Wuthering Waves, there are two characters who can trigger multiple Echo skills: one is Cantarella, and the other is the soon-to-be-released Qiuyuan. As mentioned earlier, Galbrena needs teammates capable of unleashing multiple Echo skills to boost her damage. This leads to a common question: if I already have Cantarella, wouldn't pairing her with Galbrena work just fine? The combo should perform well, so wouldn't it be unnecessary to spend resources pulling for Qiuyuan?
But… is that really the case?

In theory, Cantarella can be considered one of Qiuyuan's substitutes. However, from a numbers perspective, Qiuyuan provides stronger buffs while stacking layers for Galbrena, resulting in noticeably higher damage.
Galbrena has three main team-building approaches: the first is pairing her with Qiuyuan; the second is pairing her with Cantarella and Phrolova; and the third is pairing her with Lupa. Compared to Qiuyuan, Cantarella may not provide as much stacking power or damage, but she has the advantage of healing, which allows the third teammate to be Phrolova. However, in this team composition, Galbrena's role can feel a bit awkward, since Phrolova's own abilities are strong enough that Galbrena may come across as more of a "tagalong" or "ornament."
If you pair Qiuyuan with Shorekeeper, Shorekeeper can act as the team's healer, boosting the survivability of both Qiuyuan and Galbrena, while also increasing CRIT RATE and CRIT DMG.
Some might ask, "Can't I bring Galbrena, Qiuyuan, and Cantarella together?" The problem with this setup is that the number of Echo skill triggers would overflow, making this team composition largely unnecessary. :)
Conclusion
In summary, if you really like Qiuyuan's looks, there's no need to overthink it—just go for him! But if you're focused on maximizing team strength and want to make full use of Galbrena in battle, Qiuyuan is still very much worth pulling for, as there are currently almost no substitutes for him in Wuthering Waves.
