Wuthering Waves 3.5 is almost here, bringing six major new characters from Huanglong! This time, we're setting off for Xuanfang City to kick off a whole new adventure—and our beloved poster girl Yangyang is making a grand return with her powerful new form. Before you stands the second daughter of Mingting's illustrious musical family! Just remember: don't break our hearts in the very patch she comes back!
Here's your complete guide to Yangyang: Xuanling—covering builds, weapons, Echoes, team comps, and more!
Yangyang: Xuanling Overview

Rarity: 5-Star | Attribute: Havoc | Weapon: Sword
In terms of role and positioning, Yangyang is capable of dealing powerful Heavy Attack damage. As the main DPS for a 【Havoc Effect】-focused team, she can convert the 【Havoc Effect】 debuff into self-buffs that amplify her own damage. Similar to dual-form characters like Emiss and Feixue, Yangyang uses her Resonance Skill to switch between 【Azure Sword Stance】 and 【Feather Sword Stance】, allowing her to execute different Heavy Attack combos and playstyles.
In terms of combat performance, Yangyang boasts a wide attack range, excellent resistance to interruption, flexible and agile controls, and smooth, fluid animations. Her performance in the overworld is above-average—her Heavy Attack-heavy kit means that even button-mashing can yield impressive mob-clearing capabilities. On top of that, her Resonance Liberation boasts a massive 1700% multiplier, providing a substantial burst of damage when you need it most.
Skill Leveling Priority
Priority #1: Unlock her Inherent Skills. After that, follow this order:
Forte Circuit > Resonance Liberation > Basic Attack > Resonance Skill > Intro Skill

Feather Edge
Rarity:★★★★ |
Yangyang's signature weapon takes its name from an ancient Chinese text, "Carefree Journey" (Zhuangzi's Xiaoyaoyou). The imagery of a gigantic bird perfectly complements Yangyang's motif—her connection to birds, feathers, and wind. How fitting! The weapon's passive provides Heavy Attack DMG Amplification and DEF ignore, both of which are incredibly easy to trigger given Yangyang's kit. However, the weapon's versatility is somewhat limited, as Yangyang is currently the only Sword-wielding character who can apply Havoc Effect debuffs on her own.
As for substitute weapons, Qiuyuan's signature weapon Emerald Sentence is the best choice, as you'll be able to benefit from most of its effects during short-rotation DPS windows—excellent synergy. The standard banner weapon Emerald of Genesis is also a great alternative, providing Energy Regen, which is especially valuable since you won't be rolling for any Energy Regen substats on your Echoes. For four-star options, the battle pass sword Feather Edge offers both Crit Rate and Crit DMG, but it's only recommended as a temporary transitional weapon until you get a better option.

When this Echo Skill is equipped in the primary slot, own Havoc DMG Bonus is increased by 12.00% and Heavy Attack DMG Bonus is increased by 12.00%. CD: 20 seconds |
Stats

Main Stats: COST 4: Crit. DMG / Crit. Rate COST 3: Havoc DMG Bonus / ATK COST 3: Havoc DMG Bonus / ATK COST 1: ATK COST 1: ATK |
|
Substats: Energy Regen up to 120% > Crit. DMG / Crit. Rate > ATK% > Heavy Attack Bonus |
Yangyang share the new Song of Falling Feathers sonata set, as both characters are symbolized by birds. When Yangyang equips this set, she benefits from the Crit. Rate and Heavy Attack DMG bonuses.
In terms of stat selection, both her signature weapon and the sonata set already provide Crit. Rate, so to avoid overcapping on Crit. Rate, it's best to choose Crit. DMG for the COST 4 main stat. The 2-piece set bonus already gives 10% Energy Regen, so one to two additional Energy Regen substats will be more than enough to meet her needs.
Resonance Chain
- Chain 1 – "The Sparrow Follows the Wind and Blossoms Anew"
Adds two extra instances of damage. Azure Heavy Attack gains interruption immunity, and Feather Heavy Attack gains one instance of interruption immunity.
- Chain 2 – "The Sword Still Sings Across the Distant Waves"
Simple yet powerful multiplier increase. Greatly enhances overworld mob-clearing capabilities when out of combat.
- Chain 3 – "Memories Chasing Beyond the Clouds"
Massive Resonance Liberation DMG Amplification. Removes the dependency on Qianxiao (the universal support for Havoc Effect teams) and increases the Havoc Bane stack cap by +3.
- Chain 4 – "A Letter Sent Across the Miles, Bearing Longing"
Increases the ATK of all team members.
- Chain 5 – "Take Wing. Take Wing."
Grants one instance of fatal DMG immunity.
- Chain 6 – "May the Azure Light Ever Shine"
Provides a high Heavy Attack DMG vulnerability debuff on enemies, plus 5 extra instances of bonus multiplier damage.
In the current version (V1), SP Yangyang's standout chains are Chain 3 and Chain 6. Chain 3 removes her dependency on Qianxiao, the universal support for Havoc Effect teams, so feel free to pull based on your own needs. Chain 6, on the other hand, makes her damage output absolutely explosive.

Team Comps
Best Team |

Yangyang: Xuanling |
|
Suisui |
For a Yangyang below Chain 3 to maximize her damage output, she needs teammates that can provide 3 additional stacks of the effect layer cap. Chisa isn't just the optimal choice here—she's the only choice. Yangyang's Outro Skill also provides buffs to teammates who apply Havoc Effect on the field. Without rotation optimization, Chisa's activation speed as the 3rd slot is admittedly slow, but now she can don her new outfit and move into the 2nd slot in Yangyang's team instead.
For the healer slot, Suisui is the best choice. She's the new meta healer for Havoc Effect teams, providing her sister with massive ATK buffs and resistance reduction.

Rover: Electro |
Suisui/Shorekeeper/Chisa/Verina |
In Version 3.5, Rover will unlock a new attribute: Electro. This allows them to combine forces and deal a colorful array of damage, but we won't go into too much detail here.
Electro Rover's role is mainly as a universal sub-DPS for Effect teams, providing team-wide ATK buffs and damage amplification for the main DPS. In this team, on one side you have Yangyang—the starting point of Rover's journey—and on the other, Shorekeeper or Suisui (for that sister team synergy) representing the end of the journey. The immersion is absolutely on point. That said, Electro Rover will most likely be moving to Hsin team in the future, so while we still have a few patches to keep them together, let's make the most of it!
2 Support Team |

Yangyang: Xuanling |

Suisui /Shorekeeper /Verina |
Yangyang's damage type is primarily Heavy Attack damage—the Havoc Effect is just the trigger mechanism. Choosing Heavy Attack supports to provide bonus damage is also a viable option. Characters like Iuno and Mortefi are very commonly used Heavy Attack supports and are worth building.
Statistically speaking, once Yangyang reaches Chain 3, a S6R1 Mortefi becomes an excellent teammate choice.
Conclusion
So much time has passed that whenever we speak of Huanglong, of Jinzhou, of the very first steps of our journey—we always think of that girl who accompanied us from the very beginning. And now, she has finally returned.
Whether you're pulling for her strength, for the nostalgia, or simply to finally deliver that long-overdue reply to her letter, I hope this guide helps you get the hang of this character as quickly as possible.
And lastly, best of luck with your pulls!
