Unlike the previously introduced Whiteout Survival, a survival game set in an extreme cold post-apocalyptic world of icy wasteland, today we bring you Kingshot—a game that opts for the more classic medieval theme as its backdrop. —Both are powered by Century Games!

Of course, Kingshot still retains the tower defense and troop mechanics, but it places greater emphasis on the balance of troop composition.

In this article, LDShop has summarized the Kingshot troops formation guide and common mistakes players often make in troop formation. It's packed with insights!

Kinds of Troops in Kingshot

A good troop formation starts with understanding the three main troop types in the game: Infantry, Cavalry, and Archers.

Infantry

Infantry

Infantry can be considered the tank role of the team. They excel at absorbing damage and serving as the vanguard of the army, creating a protective shield for the entire formation. Their attributes include high HP/Health, high defense, slow movement speed, and low damage output capability. Infantry possess two skills:

  • Master Brawler: Deal 10% increased damage to Cavalry.
  • Bands of Steel: Gain 10% increased defense against Cavalry.

Cavalry

Cavalry

Cavalry possess moderate HP/Health, moderate damage output, moderate defense, and fast movement speed. They are not frontline units but rather serve as strike teams positioned behind infantry, specializing in harassing enemy Archers. Cavalry have two skills:

  • Charge: Deal 10% increased damage to Archers.
  • Ambusher: Gain a 20% chance to bypass Infantry and directly attack Archers.

Archers

Archers

Archers are the primary damage-dealing units, boasting high damage output but lower defense, lower base HP/Health, and slower movement speed. Due to their low defense and HP stats, they are typically positioned at the rear of the formation, leveraging their long range to inflict massive sustained damage on enemies. Archers possess two abilities:

  • Ranged Strike: Deal 10% increased damage to Infantry.
  • Volley: Gain a 10% chance to attack twice consecutively.

What are the common mistakes in Troop Formation?

  • Unbalanced Formations: Even if your initial power is greater than your opponent's, failing to adopt a balanced formation can disrupt your gameplay flow. A balanced formation ensures adaptability against various enemy attacks. Keep in mind that a "balanced" troop composition does not necessarily mean a 1:1:1 ratio.
  • Even Distribution of Troops: Distributing an equal ratio of each troop type in your formation. While this approach may be effective in some situations, it is not recommended for all purposes.
  • Using the Same Formation for Every Scenario: Employing the same formation for all situations—whether attacking, defending, or dealing with bear traps. Neglecting to optimize your formation and failing to adapt strategically to gain an advantage over the enemy is a common mistake many players make.
  • Ignoring Enemy Troop Types Before Battle: Failing to scout the enemy is essentially setting yourself up for defeat. Scouting provides pre-battle intelligence on the enemy's troop composition, allowing you to adjust your own forces to counter theirs.
  • Not Using Kingshot Gems: Neglecting to use Kingshot gems to enhance your troops. Gems are the premium currency in the game and can be used to unlock various troops, increase VIP levels, or speed up troop training time.

How to make a great Troop Formation?

March Formation Recommendation: 5:2:3 Ratio

The game's built-in "Balance" or "Quick Select" function evenly distributes your highest-tier troops, but this is often not the optimal strategy.

  • Traditional Balanced Formation:

Highest number of Infantry (serving as tanks)

Moderate number of Cavalry

Lowest number of Archers

  • LDShop's Recommended Adjustment:

(50%) Archers (30%) Infantry (20%) Cavalry

    • (50%) Archers should be the most numerous (as they are the primary damage dealers).
    • (30%) Infantry should be the second largest group (but still sufficient to form a sturdy frontline to absorb damage).
    • (20%) Cavalry should be the smallest group (their value lies in triggering the "Flanking" skill to bypass the frontline and target rear units, rather than serving as main forces).

Garrison (City Defense) Formation - 7/3/0 Ratio

The "7" represents Infantry, "3" represents Cavalry, and "0" represents Archers. This means that for a total capacity of 10, your troops should consist of 7 Infantry, 3 Cavalry, and 0 Archers. When defending, your army needs higher HP to absorb as much damage as possible. Since Archers are relatively fragile, and if the enemy lineup has a large number of Cavalry, they can break through the defense line and directly target the Archers.

Garrison (City Defense) Formation - 7/3/0 Ratio

Pitfall/Bear Hunt Event Formation - 1/1/8 Ratio

The "1" represents Infantry, "1" represents Cavalry, and "8" represents Archers. This means that for a total capacity of 10, your troops should consist of 1 Infantry, 1 Cavalry, and 8 Archers. According to the Bear Hunt event mechanics, bringing a large number of Archers is the optimal choice because they are the highest damage-dealing units in the army. In the Bear Hunt event, the score depends on how much lethal damage you can deal.
